In my last slot, I went with Piracy Charm instead. Great against Infect, Affinity, Burn's Grim Lavamancers and Grixis Delver. Monastery Siege didn't work well for me; getting them to pay 2 more didn't matter since my dorks still died and I get discarded T1-2 most of the time. Wooo GP Singapore Lezzdothis! :))
Ok, I'll test the 1 Monastery Siege in that slot. Against what decks do I bring them in?
I'm just reverting back to the old list; it's true that the Twisted Images are the least boarded in, but they're backbreaking in the match-ups they're needed such as UG Infect and Affinity. I've read in a certain article with thorough statistics that they're still part of the Top 10 decks to beat at the moment. So I'm keeping them. I could always go back to YOLO 4 Dismembers :))
Went 4-0 today in a casual tourney playtest for GP Singapore. Faced against Abzan Conpany, Naya Zoo, Junk, and RG 'Tron. Tested against Elves too. Never got to use my Rapid Hybridizations though. The match-ups of the company decks are great in Game1, but in Game2 things get interactive. I'm considering forgoing removal and just have 2x Dispel and the 3rd Wild Defiance boarded in Game2/3 to truly have the back-up plan available. My sideboard now looks like this:
What do you guys think; should I still leave room for Dismembers? What could that last slot best be? I've been
considering Piracy Charm or Monastery Siege
My current list is still the one from my recent tournaments a few pages back, except 4 Rapid Hybridization in place of Dismembers. Gotta finalize before GP Singapore next week. :))
Speaking of options, somebody recommended me to try out Simic Charm as well. A bit demanding in terms of mana (yes, 2cc and UG is something I think is troublesome), but it has a bit of everything we need:
1st mode: Pump for damage
2nd mode: Protection from removal (can blank Electrolyze)
3rd mode: Temporary removal if you think you can kill that turn.
After some deliberation, I realized that Dismember is costing me more games now because of that 4 life since the deck fetches heavily and already is Phyrexian-mana heavy maindeck. Since most of the time we only need to dispose of creatures for their utility abilities such as Spellskite or Melira, Sylvok Outcast.... what do you guys think of Rapid Hybridization? Cheap, destroys the problem, and at its worst it's a Fog for a single attacker which you can still chump block later. Can also make instant speed blockers for you if needed. My crucial point is reducing your immediate life loss here. One downside I see is that you can't eliminate their blockers. :/ I'm seriously considering testing this :))
4-1 in Swiss in today's PPTQ then tripped in the Quarterfinals. Shame, I wanted to have a reason to fly to Bangkok. :((
Round 1: Affinity 2-1. Game1 I got killed Turn3 by 2 pairs of scissors. G2 I held him with 3 Nature's Claim appearances. G3 he opened slow and Didn't have much to threatrn with.
Round 2: GW Hexproof 1-2. Lost Game1 in the stack wars when he had the last removal for my protection. G2 I won quickly. G3 I was able to threaten but was short on lands, didn't topdeck the Nexus I needed to pump for lethal.
Round 3: Abzan Midrange 2-1. Lost Game1 I forgot the details. G2 he died by Noble Hierarch c/o Wild Defiance. G3 he mulled to 5 and was stuck at 1 land for too long.
Round 4: Jund 2-0. Game 1 was grindy but managed to win, G2 he mulled to 6 but made a decision on Turn4 that costed him the game.
Round 5: Jund 2-0. Can't remember, games were quick.
Quarterfinals: 1-2 Wilted Abzan. G1 was too grindy; didn't draw enough blue mana sources early to finish the game quickly. Game 2 managed a last turn win; hand was really slow at 3 Inkmoths and 2 Lands. Game3 didn't draw ANY OF MY 4 DISMEMBERS TO DEAL WITH DAT TURN2 SPELLSKITE BLOCKING MY 5 PUMPSPELLS. XC Also realized how annoying boarding spot removal in when 2 copies of Lingering Souls have blocked me all my games.
Okay, thanks for the input everyone! :)) Yeah, the 1 to equip of Swiftfoot is mehh, so I guess I can keep the Greaves in. Yupyup, Urabrask thr Hidden and Ogre Battledriver have been pulling their weight, not to mention the latter pairs up nicely with Flayer of the Hatebound
@Decimator1 I play Shadowmage Infiltrator, even before he was spoiled. Nets you cards early, and most people just ignore him.
I'm just curious why aren't there a lot of people running Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots? I was able to find space to squeeze the two and I'm really happy protecting Marchesa and at the same times having her take early assault first, then follow up the following turns with guaranteed dethrone triggers.
I just borrowed my Misty; you can do without it. Sometimes I even have the problem of "over-fetching" and not having enough lands left in the deck haha
I actually though of 4 Geist of Saint Traft back then as well! :)) Alternate wincon, plus he'll definitely live thru combat with all the pump spells you have hahaha If the metagame shifts towarda BG/x and Jeskai Control again then this would be a funky SB plan for me.
Like I've said before, SB is modified to have game against Abzan Company and Elves but slightly compromised against UG Infect and Affinity due to loss of Twisted Image. Wondering which one will I settle on.
@Kovo Thanks! 4-2 for today's GPT, 12th out of 60 persons which isn't bad, but not too prize-paying. Good thing I got 2 fetches and Chord of Calling in the packs.
Round 1: 2-0 Jeskai Twin. Grindy Game1 and 2, couldn't deal w/ 2 'Skites and Wild Defiance for protection
Round 2: 2-1 Naya Zoo. Same guy from previous results. Died by Noble Hierarch G3.
Round 3: 1-2 Storm. G1 I combo Turn3. G2 he combo Turn3. G3 gave me only one pump and he combo at 9 Poison. Frustrating!
Round 4: 1-2 RUG Blue Moon splash 'Goyf. SO GRINDY DIFFICULT. SPREADINGS SEAS TOO UUGH. Either way worked around it, needed to topdeck a pump spell to win but wasn't given. Could have been anyone's endgame.
Round 5: 2-1 Jeskai Control. G2-3 ended quickly c/o Wild Defiance
Round 6: 2-0 UG Infect mirror match. G1 saved by my Turn2 Spellskite, G2 answered everything he could play
Ended up 3-1-1 Top8 split in tonight's GPT Singapore. Everyone got 3 MM2 packs!
Round 1: UR Twin 2-0. Bonus round. Guy just bought the deck didn't know how to play properly.
Round 2: Grixis Delver 2-1. Topdecked pumpspell for Blighted Agent w/ 2x Wild Defiance out.
Round 3: Naya Zoo 1-2 Opted for a proactive play and hoped he didn't Topdeck the 'Bolt or land he needed. He did.
Round 4: Abzan Midrange 2-1. Game 2 he died of a 20-power Hierarch T3. Game3 he died Turn3 via Inkmoth w/ Wild Defiance
Round 5: Intentional Draw
got Remand, All is Dust, Cryptic Command and foil Surgical Extraction
@yujipooji Hey! I play Marchesa too and am from the Philippines as well. Magus of the Moon will be a metagame call, depending on how well-tuned your local EDH circle's decklists are and how many of them are tri-color Besides, it doesn't matter if you yourself are casting Jokulhaups and Obliterate back-to-back without losing your army.
Marchesa can be made viable for French, I've seen some lists in mtgtop8.com
Can I treat Wilted Abzan as something like GW Hatebears and board in the full-4 Dismembers? :)) I have a great Game1 due to minimal removal from them, and Game2-3 since I'll be a bit slower I'd like to stop some opposition myself.
