Is Sneak and Show still a good deck? It seems like the kind of deck I would like to play but I don't know if it's still as good as it once was. I can start by picking up some volcanic islands and if I change my mind I can play Ur delver instead
So Ive just completed legacy merfolk as my first complete deck for the format. I do, however, plan to start collecting pieces for some deck to transition into, as I don't want to play fish forever. So I have the force of wills, which are the only real thing of merit I'll take with me towards my new deck.
My question is, what are the most cost efficient and playable decks that use the 4 copies of force of will I could transition to? I'm guessing the main viable options would be miracles, grixis delver, infect, sneak and show, and maybe some others?
5 long matches to end up 2-2. bad night for my fish.
1st match in both games mulled to 5. it was Tarmo-twin with rhinos. with my skills, I dont think i even had a chance; by turn 5 he had like 3 seize rhinos and game. second game he played a gofy every turn after turn 2 till i died.
round was a odd deck, dude was new. took a bit cause it was all life gain, but won by chipping.
round 3-bi
round 4, was my friend with my stompy deck. surprised at this deck, it hit the ground running. game one was his. game 2 grinded out till almost time but I won, thanks to 2x in a row master of waves.3rd game I flooded with 2 vials. i won
5th round was other friend, he just got into competitive. a burn deck with 16 creatures. he just burned me down first game. 2nd, a was long game. 2 mins from time he deflecting palmed my mutivalt then lightning helix for game. i 3x flooded aethers in a row and 2 islands. just bad draws
Interested in the Tarmo-twin with rhinos. What did that manabase look like?
Speaking of which, lately against them I take out all counters except for dispels to counter there counters, but remand and snare just seem to get hosed by there caverns so I dont even bother. I this correct? Cant remember if im keeping in cryptic or not.
I think I'd keep in snare, since it hits so many of their creatures and I'm pretty sure most fish lists are only running 1-3 Caverns in their manabases recently. Cryptic is also nice as a kind of timewalk effect when they have overkill on board and you need to stall to assemble your combo. Though I think it's ok to trim Cryptic if you need to make room for some sideboard sweepers and things
I'm new to this deck and was planning on building this as my third deck for fun times at FNM. As such, I'm trying to keep it to a low budget (terramorphic expanse land base). I already have the Blood Moons so this list would be quite affordable. Any thoughts/feedback on this Idyllic Tutor version (it is a variation of a list I saw somewhere else)?
I could see Nissa being effective in theory after board against other control decks, as she's a cheap and consistent source of card advantage (which is something that's not too common in modern) and its likely that the opponent boarded out most removal they have. It's not too hard to flip her since we already have cards dedicated to ramping up to 7 lands.
I think she probably fills a similar role to Inferno Titan, whether or not she's better is debateable
I've been playing a single Redirect in my UR Twin sideboard and its been hilariously effective. Haven't tried it in a large tournament yet (only local FNM and such) but it's been effective against Abrupt Decay and has managed to Get Em(tm) by redirecting a Splinter Twin onto my own Deceiver Exarch.
That said, as has been stated, Negate and Spellskite are a probably more competitive options. But if you want to have a damn good time, play Redirect
Thanks for the info. I like Feline's idea that more snapcasters helps you get to your second high tide more consistently, but of course my experience with playing the deck is very limited. What do you guys think about a Chain of Vapor in the board for permanent bouncing when the split second isn't relevant? Also what matchups do you bring in Pearl Lake Ancients? That's some interesting tech
EDIT: Also what's the plan against decks with Eldrazi in them?
As the title inquires, why do people refer to it as "the meta(game)"?
For example "if there's a lot of Twin in your meta..."
Doesn't "metagame" mean to prepare to play against the decks you expect to see by playing implementing strategy to directly counter those decks? This makes sense in terms of card choices for tweaking your deck, but why has this term come to mean "what decks are being played the most currently"?
I've seen this also in the League of Legends community, where people refer to which champions are popular, and even the allocation of champions to lanes, as "the metagame"
I'm currently working on building/learning this deck. Is the list that Feline played at GPNJ still good or are there changes that would optimize it more?
Maybe it's just a pet card, but I love 1x Izzet Charm in the Thought Scour/Peek/Git Probe slot. I feel like the flexibility just makes it an all-around great game 1 card, and is an easy thing to side out if it's not great. I've used all the modes many times, with Loot/Counter being the two most often-used, since the deck is packed with other removal. Anyone else have thoughts on playing 1 Izzet Charm?
