Hi. I would like to know a budget version of this deck. If somebody asked before, I didn't see it sry. (I don't have time to see 32 pages of a thread (?)
I'm also looking for/trying to work on a budget version of this deck. I would love to work with you on one. I think the smartest bet is to go Orzhov. I'll try and get a list together later today.
Edit: The Orzhov Combo list above is only ~$115, but if that's not cheap enough I can work on it.
I'm a poor Magic player that's just getting into Legacy, so I would love to do some testing on this deck. I think it looks sweet and just the first couple of games I've play were just a blast. Talk about opponent butthurt! I hope that at some point I have the money to sleeve it up. (Poor college life) I go to school in Madison, WI which has a HUGE Legacy population, so I would live to have it get some real life action. Do you guys have any updates since the list posted on the front page?
Colors you like to play
I enjoy Wx and Bx combinations, especially WB. However, looking at my list, I could play red.
Style you like to play (control, combo, aggro, midrange, tempo, ramp, rogue)
I enjoy midrange the most, but I do enjoy rogue too.
Budget you have
I have no more than $100 cash. I have some things I could trade away, such as the Chalices.
Level you want to play at, or aim to build up to (causal, fmn, ptq)
I want to be able to play well at FNM, so that I could maybe win some packs so I have more trade fodder. The goal is to build up value so that I can play at the PTQ level, but it doesn't have to be the same deck. Basically, I would like to invest the most into staples and lands.
Finally, I know Raphael is the creator and a VERY well knowledged in this game and the deck but some of his sideboard plans seemed weird to me. Anyone else feel the same way? An example would be something like...taking out a 1 of Zombie Infestation against Infect. I feel like this would be a pretty good card as if puts up blockers against his creatures and cutting something like a Bloodghast that can't block seems more reasonable. Who knows, I'm just a newb but I would like maybe some reasoning.
I have found myself cutting Bloodghast a lot because it just isn't good in creature heavy matchups. However, I am running Knight of the Reliquary as a finisher.
Hello everyone! I always thought goblins was a sweet deck, but I didn't care for the fact that it simply wasn't competitive enough. With the printing of Goblin Piledriver, I'm thinking about sleeving up this deck. I'm excited to see how things play out.
From my initial testing, KotR can be absolutely insane. However, it strains the manabase more. Lingering Souls didn't need white because you could put it in your yard and use black. KotR forces you to stretch your manabase. I'll have to keep testing to see if it's worth it.
Levy finished 39th posted his list. Unfortunately, it's a bit blurry. Can anyone identify these cards?

Edit: Just realized one of the cards is Conflagrate. That's interesting.
Well so far no one discussed a list with Knight of the Reliquary. Neither does Levy's current list contain that many creatures and I feel it's the right meta call. Bloodghast is a great card for dredge, but I feel it's way, way better in a more aggro orientated deck like DredgeVine.
Judging from the games I've played so far with Loam Pox, we have to play the attrition based way. Without Zombie Infestation turn two we're a really slow deck, which in my opinion means we can only pack cards that are able to hinder our opponent. We will rarely race aggro decks with Bloodghast, neither will we win the attrition war against jund/abzan/control decks. Bloodghast also doesn't seem to do much against RG Tron and Amulet Blood.
The problem with Narcomoeba and Bridge from Below that I see is the lack of "cheap" spells that let's us generate zombies from Bridge. No Dread Return, Ichorid and Cabal Therapy in the format are my reasons why legacy dredge will not work in modern. Without Stinkweed Imp and GGT, we're not milling ourselves enough too.
I'm currently trying a list really similar to Levy's.
I really like Stinkweed Imp as a blocker and better dredger, 1 Squee feels to right to pass on him and I never felt like I really need a 1 mana kill spell so Murderous Cut is out for Terminate. I'm not 100% sold on Urborg, but it sometimes was golden with Loam + Raven's Crime. Sadly, against some decks Raven's Crime is a horribly slow card and I feel like I would like to add 1-2 Inquisition of Kozilek's
I like your list and analysis. How has it been testing out for you? I think that it may be great to run Knight of the Reliquary. What this deck needs is a finisher. It's a slow deck in which having Bloodghast, at 2 power, as our beater doesn't seem right.
Edit: I think we should also consider Kolaghan's Command. The card has proven its worth in many other decks. It does everything. It also has good synergy with Golgari Brownscale. If we run Knight of the Reliquary, it allows that to be recurred too.
Unless I'm missing something, you can't return him to your hand from your graveyard by sacrificing another creature. It has to be on the battlefield to use his activated ability.
Also, I think is slow and mana intensive enough. I mean, discarding two cards to Zombie Infestation then use two mana to deal 2 damage to a player is pretty much the same as casting Flame Jab twice, with the downside that you can't kill creatures, and you have to have two permanents in play (Zombie Infestation and Tymaret, the Murder King).
No, it's ability works in graveyard. However, I have never hardcast a Squee and I think that overall the mana cost isn't worth it to play Tymaret, but I may be wrong.
So tested the Stock Lost of Levy and just went strictly 1-3
It's not that the Deck isn't good, it just need some Meta-Tweaking.
I experienced very quickly that Crime and Darkblast are Bonkers, whereas Bloodghast
is mediocre at best.
Anybody interested in me making a primer for this deck? It wouldn't be the best, but it would probably help gain some publicity for this deck.
I agree with this idea, someone should.
I started writing a little something up. I'll share it when I need help with editing.
I was also informed of a way to use Darkblast that I had never thought of. If you have Darkblast in hand, you can cast it in your upkeep and Dredge it in your draw step to take care of a 2 toughness creature. Maybe I'm just stupid for not noticing this simple interaction, but it can really come in handy.
I tweeted at Levy asking him about the lack of Bloodghast. His response was "just trying things out :)" I'm really curious as to what he's thinking about the list.
I'm also questioning the lack of Bloodghasts. Sure it can't block, but the continual free pressure they provide has always seemed like one of the deck's selling points. Also, is Worm Harvest worth running now? I thought it was a little slow but I'm seeing it in more lists now.
I think the deck can be built 2 ways. Long and grindy or aggro. I'm trying to figure out what this deck wants to be. Clearly Levy feels like sending this deck more towards the grind (no Bloodghast/extra Ghost Quarter/Extra Raven's Crime) Worm Harvest is only good if you plan on going long. 5 mana is a ridiculous amount to pay for a card in Modern. However, if you're going long game, Worm Harvest provides you with a great recurring pressure.
I'm also a bit concerned about Darkblast. For me, the card has really come up short when so many creatures you want to kill have 2 toughness. Losing a Terminate could be scary. I also don't care for Murderous Cut, at times it can be very anti-synergy. I'm going to do some research on Victim of Night to see if there is anything relevant that it can't hit. The first that comes to mind is Olivia Voldaren which could be relevant with a trend towards Jund that I feel is coming.

Do you think Bloodghast is bad enough to cut?

Edit: Viscera Seer, Huntmaster of the Fells, and Gurmag Angler are also relevant. (Gurmag Angler hardly sees play though)
