I had a similar idea awhile ago. I've always wanted to try a similar league that kept track of "achievements" throughout the course of game play. At the end of each week, the person with the most "points" wins - not necessarily whomever elimates their opponents first.
I've never tried it before, so I don't know how balanced it is. But its broken up into 3 parts - Conquest, Questing, and Diplomacy.
For the "Diplomcy" part, the idea is that you have to vote for a person (not yourself) in each category at the end of the game.
If you guys wanted to try it, I'd be curious to hear your comments.
I loved the Return to Ravnica block and the Shards of Alara block. In Ravnica each guild had its own ability and in Alara each Shard had its own theme. I felt there was a lot of room to build unique, fun decks. The fact that Shards of Alara was all multi-color was awesome too.
I've had a lot of fun with Perplexing Chimera + Homeward Path. It combos well - allows Zeddruu to draw cards off his triggers or change the target of a spell.
I'm also surprised no one has mentioned Solitary Confinement. Zedruu allows you to draw cards anyway, and the protection is priceless, particularly if you donated cards like Steel Golem.
One of the WORST cards you can "donate" is Pyromancer's Swath. But that's more along my Zedruu the Jerk-Hearted build.
The whole POINT of the deck was to damage yourself by paying Phrexian Manna, down to Zero life (Phrexian Unlife keeps you alive), then tap the Soul Conduit for the win. I won a couple games with it, but it was fun. Only deck where you WANT to take damage. If you untap with that Soul Conduit out, its hard to lose.
I've had a lot of fun with Chaos type decks. Of course, they are more often apt to kill myself then my opponents, but they are undeniably "fun".
Cards like Goblin Game, Game of Chaos, Eye of the Storm, or Thieves' Auction - (where you basically draft all the permanents in play). Jhoira of the Ghithu makes an awesome commander, as they can see what is about to happen.
The random-factor makes for a more even playing field.
I've been playing around with a formula to try to answer questions like "Which Creature is better".
Something like (P+T)+(#OfAbilities*2)/CMC. This roughly gives you "value" for each CMC.
So Lightning Angel is a (3+4)+(2*3)/4=3.25.
Mantis Rider is (3+3)+(2*3)/3= 4
For Comparison, a Baneslayer Angel is (5+5)+(2*4)/5= 3.6 So Mantis Rider may even be more cost effective than the mighty Baneslayer
Of course, it all depends on how you view abilities too... "Protection of Demons and Dragons" may realistically only be worth 1 pt, and lifelink may be 3 pts. But at least then your comparing apples to apples.
Why Petyr Baelish? Because the point of this deck is to watch the world burn, and be king of the ashes.
I went in thinking I wanted to control everything about combat. Basically, it tries to force combat as much as possible. No more holding back and alpha striking only when you can kill someone. My creatures have a lot of First Strike / Deathtouch effects, so attacking me is not usually the best option. My opponents handle removal by attacking each other.
It worked "ok" the first time out. Its good at coming in second. Any suggestions are appreciated.
