I remember The Dark is Rising to be good, but its been so long since I've read it that I keep getting the details mixed up with So You Want to be a Wizard?
It was cool that it delved into briton and celtic mythology, because it seems we don't get a lot of those in fantasy (except in badly distorted forms).

[blah blah blah] read Brandon Sanderson. I swear I'll keep throwing the name out until someone reads him.

I have mixed feelings about the Watchmen movie. For one, Allen Moore completely hates the movies they make of his works (ever since League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), but as he doesn't own the rights, he can't do anything about it. Two, Watchmen was specifically written to prove that graphic novels are their own medium in a way movies can't be. Three, its rated R. Putting sex scenes in and "staying true to the material" isn't worth alienating a decent sized portion of movie goers (although this is a personal opinion, I'm sure some of you disagree).
All that said, I'm sure I will watch it. Eventually.

I know I already mentioned Transmetropolitan, but since we've come back to graphic novels... Its awesome sauce. Speaking of which, the comic book quote of the day is:
"Why are you not awesomed by me?!" by Molly Hayes (the character from Runaways).

I read Lord of the Flies, and I didn't even have to. All it really did was kill any concept of having fun on a deserted island.

I skimmed 1984 a couple years back. I think its mostly just noteworthy as a landmark for the dystopian future genre.

I started reading a lot of these books before I even knew what most of them meant. I remember one of my favorite books when I was in elementary school was a Xanth novel by Piers Anthony. I reread it some years later and realized I missed all the "adult situations".

I haven't been watching any anime (aside from One Piece episodes with my brother, which I've already seen). At least I'm starting to bring my brother into anime.

Doesn't look like anyone likes the new stuff. Ah well, I'm probably better off not spending so much time on it; what with school and work.

Mostly I've just been reading manga. I've caught up with all the mainstream stuff, any forgotten gems I should look for?

Leaving the country for a couple weeks got me off the MTGS, and school/working starting up again has kept me off. Maybe I can get semi-active again.

I don't think I can stop pushing Brandon Sanderson 'til someone reads him. The Mistborn trilogy just finished up, and it was great. You can get a free copy of Warbreaker online (although reading in Word is kind of annoying); hmmm, I should read the latest edition of that and see what's changed.

Aside from that, I don't think I've read anything since my grandfather's biography (he talked about his first 40 something years, put it on tape, and my mom just recently turned it into a book). I went to the Philippines for Christmas, so I had to read to book so I could know about all the places I was visiting. Also something cool, my great-great-great (give or take a great) uncle is Emilio Aguinaldo, who's basically the George Washington of the Philippines.

Just a random thought, anyone ever read The Three Musketeers? I remember it took me four or five years to get past the first couple dozen pages. I'm still not sure what happened to who(m?). The whole thing came off as a renaissance soap opera to me, but it probably wasn't meant to be read by people under the age of twelve. O.o

Janon follows, keeping a wary eye the surroundings. Doubt an armed group will escape notice for long. Not as keen as Zanrod to meet a guy who chops off arms.

I give my support to Omna15. She is the kind of considerate and inclusive poster that the internet so badly lacks.

Hah, Desert Punk and Chaos Head. The Otakus are taking over! Welcome, new people.

Twilight movie is coming out soon. I probably won't see it until it hits the library, though. As a general rule, I avoid vampire, werewolf love triangle things. Dracula is a classic. I'm not generally a fan of vamp-lit outside of that (well....the second Vampire Hunter D movie was good, and Hellsing if you're into the blood and gore).

He's also responsible for the 2nd volume of Runaways (which I know I've mentioned before, although probably in a different thread).
And don't forget Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog (check it out at Hulu, it'll be the best use of 40 min all day).

Mostly been reading comics, and slowly working my way through Goodkind. Do the names Brian K. Vaughan, Warren Ellis or Joss Whedon sound familiar to anyone? (you better know that last one)

Well, least this guy's open 'bout the fact he cuts up dead bodies. Good spirits only know what that silent guy does in his spare time.

"Severed limbs sounds like your specialty, Zanrod. You wanna check this guy out, or should we look elsewhere as to where we can find some 'work'?"

I stopped keeping track after the first 150 (151). It just seems that the Poke'mon keep getting more and more alien, and the names moreso. The show's just beating a dead horse after the first couple seasons, but the games apparently keep innovative enough be worthwhile playing (even though the basics are pretty much the same). I've only ever played through Sapphire (on a borrowed Gameboy)...(the game was borrowed, too)...

Hmm, I'll have to check out that series. I'm reading Goodkind right now.

We'll see what Obama does, but I'm still a little nervous given the Democratic track record.

Yeah, Moist von Lipwig isn't quite the typical underdog Pratchett character. I still liked Making Money, but it wasn't as memorable as some of the other Discworld novels.

Edit: Dang, looks like its not on a regular broadcast channel. Time to go surfing.

    Quote from ep.
Rest in Peace Michael. Rest in Peace.

Not that you're gone, who is left to mock the tree-huggers and blame global warming on the aliens? Who shall write books about man's (and woman's) ability to destroy himself (or herself) through his (or her) inventive folly?

Speaking of, now that Obama got the presidency, I can probably look forward to unemployment next year. :xd:
I work as a student for the Air Force. Something tells me the (arguably) most liberal senator-soon-to-be-president is gonna slash DoD funding. Guess who gets sacked first? Slant

Do you still get the time slow spell? 'Cause that was one of the best parts of the original. How was the dog? It was hyped so much, does it lived up to any of that hype?
