Very interested to see how this works out... I'm cautiously optimistic.

Definitely a step in the right direction for sure.

I have not, but I thank you for bringing this card to my attention; I'm verily certain I perused people's collections and passed over it, pretty ignorantly, looking only for Misstep. :p

I'm willing to try it out, but it probably won't be for a couple weeks.

I'd be testing it in R with Furnace Scamp.

Now that the decks themselves have officially gone on sale (I was lucky enough that my LGS stays open til 2am ;D), how do you guys like the stock lists?

In my experience, out of Kaalia, Zedruu, and Damia, Damia is the superior deck. The mana fixing was good (though I stumbled a bit on green the first game), the power curve was on par if not above Zedruu (which was the worst in this category) and Kaalia (2nd), and the card advantage I generated was just insane. Now, we did only play two games, but I one the first by a span of the Grand Canyon, the second, I only lost due to both Zedruu and Damia teaming up against me.

I did have some crazy plays though with The Mimeoplasm; let me tell you, this thing does work. In both games, I made it a double striker from Kaalia's warbringer thing (the 8/8), and just wrecked face.

Zedruu has an overabundance of blue mana I feel, as well as a lack of "donable" targets (though I think my biffles who was playing the deck was not doing so correctly, as I would've gladly teamed up on Kaalia with him since if I had died, that was the clear winner). Additionally, the ability to recover in Kaalia from board wipes, etc, is inferior to Damia (since I was playing her as my general; she drew me cards which I sorely needed).

Anyways, these are just some quick first impressions of the stock decklists, since most of the other threads I see are just discussing how to improve them. So what does everyone else think?

    Quote from Wrath99
I HATE dogs, not just dislike or not care for certain breeds no i ☺☺☺☺ing HATE the species as a whole. In my eyes dogs are some of the most disgusting, pathetic, useless creatures on the face of the planet. I cant understand why everyone and their uncle wants to own one and why i get looked at like some ☺☺☺☺in monster for hating them. They are a nuisance that will rip out your childs throat without warning or wallow in its own piss and ☺☺☺☺ then go jump on your lap and lick your face./end rant

I was explaining this to someone earlier in the day who asked why i didnt want there dog in the room with me and basically there reaction was "WTF is wrong with you and how can i hate dogs, they are so cute and cuddly and etc etc etc". This is more or less the reaction i get when someone notices i get uneasy around dogs and i explain. Ive come to the conclusion that there is something wrong with everyone who likes dogs but thats just me

for anyone who would like a list of reasons why i hate dogs, here you go

1.They Bark constantly, oh car went down the street, saw a squirl, hear a door opening, see a person. at least cats stay quiet.

2.They are filthy. They lay down their ☺☺☺☺ wherever they are – On your lawn, on my lawn, in their own beds, on your bed. And the owners just let them go from that to jumping all over guests, thanks but ☺☺☺☺ you and your animal.

3.They smell like ☺☺☺☺ and the stink gets everywhere. They need to be washed regularly and even then they infect couches, carpets, curtains, cloths etc with their stench.

4.They get angry seemingly without provocation And frankly I’m scared of most of them. I dont want to get my throat ripped out my a dogg when i go out walking, why i always carry at least a knife.

5.They drool And their slime gets onto your clothes and possessions. My mates dog ☺☺☺☺ing ruined some of my cards this way overnite it slept on the card table and drooled all over my deck i was making, wanted to stab the damn thing to death.

6.They are useless, i will make this argument for any pet animal as well, you cant eat them without drawing ire from everyone and the law, cant use them for profit outside of breeding and they just cost you money. Much like children.(well the last part anyways)

7.They need constant attention. They go mental if they are left alone for long periods of time (much to the annoyance of the neighbours i.e. me!)

8.They destroy stuff. Chewing, knawing, eating, scratching and tearing apart anything they can. Over the years ive lost 8 controllers and 4 movies to dogs when i go to folks houses or they borrow and leave them out.

9.Even when properly trained they are a threat to public safety, just in the last year ive seen over a dozen news reports of the quiet well behaved family pet attacking a child or got loose and attacked someone on the street. I refuse to go outside at times when dogs are out for fear of being attacked.

10.They are every damn were and i am expected to just put up with them, no you keep your damn mutt locked up, on a leash or inside a fence. Or else i say they are fair game and can be thrown into the pound and put down.

Am i alone in this, does anyone else hate dogs, Or am i just a mental case?
I'm not sure about hating them, but if a dog attacked me and didn't stop immediately afterwards, I wouldn't hesitate to do whatever necessary to kill it.

My ex got on me for this, and we had a huge argument. Basically she said if that happened, she'd take the dog's side.

Brings the newer meaning of "*****" to light, to be sure.

Heh. Too true. It's the same thing people tell me when I build and play with an EDH deck purposely avoiding playing blue to be different.
"Oh, ya. You might want to change up your general, man"= Play blue! Add in control. That's how winning is done.
This is a lack of originality to me.

    Quote from KitsuneWarlock
What I read: Everyone must play blue.
To you two above, my point was, go ahead and have your originality, but when you lose to more competitive "net decks", don't complain, because no one forced you to play a worse deck. Yes, blue is powerful. other colors and generals not including blue are also as powerful if built correctly. However, Barktooth Warbeard.dec should never be expected to win over the two other generals I quoted.

    Quote from Toshimo
Protean Hulk doesn't put you ahead. It wins the game. It fetches up any of several game-winning combos. There's really no way it doesn't stay banned.
I'm not aware of these, other than Quillspike, which is easily disruptable.

Staff of Domination isn't just a combo enabler. It wins you the game as well. Once it starts a mana engine, it just draws your deck out, gives you infinite life, and taps down every other creature. Pretty handy.
The same is said about various infinite mana combos.

Coalition Victory is out because Fetch->Dual + 5c general is way, way to easy of a way to combo out for a win with it. No other alternate victory condition is even remotely close.
I think this depends on the meta, so I guess I take back my decision about this card. Where I play, decks can still be competitive and on-par with online lists without the K mana bases.

Panoptic Mirror is probably he least powerful of the cards mentioned, but it's mostly banned because it is such a simple win condition and people seriously didn't like seeing games end turn 4-5 because people happened to be short on artifact removal. It's not really that much stronger than a lot of other stuff, it's just that it short-circuits games way to often, if legal.
The game can end just as easily off the back of a Power Artifacted Grim Monolith as a Panoptic Mirror, yet neither of those are banned.

    Quote from scifiantihero
Oh, I play very competitively with plenty of good cards. I was just drawing a sleepy comparison between playing a broken combo and just trading the 60 best card advantage spells printed back and forth until someone happens to die. My point being that some people seem to enjoy the latter, but might get a little bit too caught up in it. So the former, which you seem to enjoy, might need a bit of encouragement sometimes!
I concur. At higher levels of play, that's basically what it comes down to: A series of decks that just win. Often, they win because of an agreed upon strategy/list, so yes, the back and forth looks the same most of the time. This is no different than many other competitive games, or sports for that matter.

    Quote from Artificer Andy
The issue with Time Vault Key is that it is a 3 mana combo that EVERY deck can run that instantly wins the game. Panoptic Mirror is similar in blue decks because almost every blue deck will be running Time Warp effects regardless. (Usually the only decks not running these are people who intentionally avoid cards like these that some players find unfun) Those two are definitely well deserved bans.
I don't disagree about Time-Key; I was mostly exaggerating about agreeing to unban that card. However, Protean Hulk looks promising, as it has an extremely narrow application with Flash, and other than that, maybe I'm underestimating, but I don't feel it would put you so far ahead that other players would be unable to recover. Not to mention, it is not nearly on the power level of Vault-Key. Coalition Victory is another one similar in vein of Helix Pinnacle or Test of Endurance, etc. Yes, the other "insta-win" cards give opponents time to answer, but if they don't get an answer, the person playing them wins regardless, similar to how if no one counters Coalition, or removes a permanent fulfilling its condition, they will lose. Another poster said the same about Staff of Domination. Yes, it's a combo piece, but like every other combo, and every other combo player, there are always going to be other combos to play, and people who play them (myself) aren't going to stop just because they've been refused one card. Panoptic Mirror falls under the same idea as Coalition Victory; like Test, it gives opponents a turn to answer it. Painters servant falls into the same category as Staff. And why Kokusho is still banned, I'll never understand.
    Quote from scifiantihero
Yeah, they should probably stay banned.

I'm not really a combo player at all-- at least I don't think of it in combo terms. But there is something to be said for inevitability. I watched two guys play 1v1 for over an hour the other day just dropping 'staples' and 'bombs' one after another, tit for tat . . . looked boring. How many times can a consecrated sphinx hit the board only to be wrathed the next turn?
If that's the case, I hope you don't run any "staples" of EDH. How many times can they hit the board, putting you ahead in the card advantage war enough so that you win the game, at least in part, because of them?

    Worldgorger Dragon

We don't unban cards lightly, but it's time for Worldgorger Dragon to get out of the penalty box. It is no longer a particularly strong example of unwelcome, format-warping, combo-play style, but simply another infinite-combo piece. Those applications are narrow enough that it should not cause problems for social players, and the type of player who wants to play this kind of infinite combo isn't going to play a more fun deck because Worldgorger Dragon is available. Thus, since it's a goal to keep the list as short as possible and focused on more fun-oriented games, we believe it can come off the list.

We'd also like to take the chance to thank the folks on the various forums for their continued input and commentary to and support for the Rules Committee. The broader community has many voices, and we do our best to hear them all.
Although, I would argue it is fun for me, as a Combo Player, to play a combo deck, hence, other decks would be less fun for me.

If this needs any further explanation, these are my feelings on the subject.

Don't get mad that your Barktooth Warbeard deck is losing to Azami, Lady of Scrolls or Grand Arbiter Augustin IV. You can change your deck just as well as people around you can.

This Round's "Krey Answers your questions" has added a bit of response to comments too.

@ Eventide Sojourner - Maybe it sets into an unfamiliar mana territory for a combat advantage, maybe it is more strategically set for a campaign against his emies.
@ Paradigm Eighty - We really don't have any control over how people critique or do top3. However I do have control on the challenges. For my benefit, could you elaborate why are the challenges dumb? or do you mean hard, easy or boring. That said, sign me up when you volunteer to host a CCL, so I can see how you would do it. Anyway thanks for participating.
@ Ruin - People, get creative. blue does gain control of creatures and fortifications are colorless.
@ CXA26483 - Since this is the last open round lets keep them as we go into top eight.
@ Maokun - Thanks. Seems some people want CCLs that each challenge is create any card you like.
    @ Pocketwatch - Exactly
I meant that it was hard to decipher what team I was on after the drops etc. since the team title wasn't bolded. Tongue

Also, I somewhat agree... why would my UB 'walker settle in a territory of unfamiliar mana? Relating the story to the contest, this seems somewhat out of place. I'm continuing regardless, but the point remains.

    Æthergize 5UG
    Sorcery (C)

Hm. Well, it kills your targets temporarily, but flavorwise I'm not sure how you can reconcile the counters... Nor why it is specific to a given creature type. However, it's costed appropriately and fits in pretty well with your previous cards, so pretty good job.

Pray for Immolation deals X damage to each creature, where X is the number of creatures tapped to cast it plus one.
"They welcomed the fire, rejoicing in it even as it peeled their flesh away." - Kaelonus, survivor of the Mykanid Temple Inferno
I really like this. It doesn't do too much on its own of course, which kind of makes it a dead card some of the time, but I can clearly get behind that. It also wipes your own field. I could see this being printed just based on those two facts. Brainwashing one warrior is good. Brainwashing an entire race is better.
:(. Requirement was for a spell. I'll continue on anyways. :). So, at worst this is a bad Mind Control. At best, it is similar to a Peer Pressure. Interesting. However, because of how good it could be, and the likelihood that this would be printed near a tribal set, I think this is better suited as (U).

Excellent work! I'm not sure how much of this I myself will use, but I appreciate your efforts in advance if I do. Smile

I most assuredly will. It's a pleasure to receive comments from fellow forumgoer's, even if harsh. Of course, getting good criticism is always nice. Smile

I really like the frame, but I think you could pick different fonts that fit better with the frame.

    Seems more efficient indeed.

Are you going to make full .psd of it so we can make proxies with the frame?
I probably could've found different fonts, but these are the traditional ones used with the current card frame (that is, the one used in printing of [M12], [NPH], etc).

Also, yes, after I have finalized all the details, I will be releasing it. I will also be updating and finishing my "modern" templates in the future (though when I can't say). I always have a million things going on :/.

@ CXA26483 - You have to choose a creature an opponent created last round to make their brains look like jell-o with your card.
What I meant was it doesn't have to interact with the creature in some way... Like, the answer doesn't have to be narrow, it just has to kill them?
