@curdbros I also checked out your primer on modern combo elves. Would you say that deck is, in general, superior to green devotion? Which would you recommend for a player that's newer to the game? And thanks for all the great info! Your primers are really a great introduction to some really interesting decks
hey thanks for the response! how do you think the walker devotion deck would fare without the karns/ugin? unfortunately they're a bit out of my price range as i'm trying to find the most budget options for this deck. on that note, did cloudstone spike in price or has it always been that high? i could've sworn it was down to 4ish bucks when i was considering buying a set a while back.
also, have you tried out building around eidolon of blossoms? if so, how did you like it? I was thinking it would be good to maintain hand advantage because after i get boardwiped its usually hard to come back
so how do we beat control? against decks with a ton of removal/boardwipes its hard to get anything going... then when something like genesis wave or primeval titan gets countered i'm not really sure how to answer. are we just supposed to play more conservatively and poke for little increments of damage?
Anyone test out progenitor mimic? Saw it on mtggoldfish and it seems pretty crazy considering it also copies the mana cost of its target. Hence double devotion.
anyone test out verdant haven? i'm trying to decide what land enchantment to play alongside my set of utopia sprawls.
I like the draw power of abundant growth but it doesn't actually ramp. then theres fertile ground but i dunno if its worth the 2 CMC.
also, i have a question that came up last night. hopefully someone in this thread can help: if i have 2 arbor elves untapped and 2 forests untapped, and my opponent deals 1 damage to each elf, can i tap my forests then tap the elves to float 4 green before the elves die?
thanks in advance i'm having a ton of fun with this deck.
Again the plan is to wall out with the overgrown battlement and wall of roots while keeping pressure on the board with polukranos and the huntmaster. any thoughts?
So with this build i want to play strong defense with the Walls while building up mana and keeping pressure on the board with the Huntmaster. I also want to add more burn spells that could potentially take out a few of my opponents creatures like Slagstorm etc. Ultimately i want to win by playing a strong defensive/pressure game until I'm comfortable dropping a fatty to finish it out. Right now i'm still thinking about what finishers to focus on. I was sort of thinking Terastodon could be useful because it could clear out some of my opponents board while having my walls to block the tokens he makes. But i just don't know if he's gonna be high-impact enough to warrant running as my finisher. As always i'm open to suggestions (especially regarding any red or green finishers) and feedback.
I don't think i want to spend the money to pickup primeval titan because it's kinda expensive. Is inferno titan good enough to close games out in this type of deck?
thanks for the feedback everyone! still mulling over possible deck ideas. what do you guys think of Xenagos, God of Revels? he seems like he could be really powerful. giving your creatures haste and making them huge.
I think this creature lineup seems more stable than my previous one. But I still need some 2 drops to go along with the rest of the deck. Also I kinda wanted to add a strong finisher like maybe a dragon? or some really good green finisher that would fit in with the deck. I also think i might need more burn spells. anyone know any good mass removal burn spells?
Yeah i've been thinking of cutting the Deus of Calamity and running some bloodbraid elf shenanigans. I'm just not too sure what some cards i can put in to abuse cascade.
hey all, i'm relatively new to magic and was looking for advice on a deck i'm working on! my friends and I dont adhere to any banlist and we pretty much just play decks/cards we think are cool. since i'm new to the game, i was looking to spend under a hundred on my deck, so while any and all feedback is welcome, please try to limit your suggestions to cards that dont cost a ton of money. here's the list so far:
I really like the land destruction that Deus of Calamity offers and thought putting a Whispersilk Cloak on him would be a ton of fun. Balefire Dragon because if he hits with the Cloak on it can clear the board. The general idea I was leaning toward would be to ramp my mana to drop either Deus or Balefire as quickly as possible. I like Huntmaster of the Fells because he seems like he could put some pressure on the board while i'm getting ready to drop my finishers.
I wanted to add some 2 or 3 drops that would synergize nicely with the deck, I just don't really know what would work in here. Oh and i didn't add any of the mana because i'm still not set on a final decklist yet. I was thinking playing a couple Kessig Wolf Run and maybe get some Rootbound Crag in addition to my basic lands.
But yeah, here's what I have so far. Please don't hesitate to offer any advice at all! i'm very new to the game and have much to learn.
