Welcome back, and yes, KillVolume's deck is much more along the lines of a Control deck. The deck list posted above that is Blue/White Heroic (which is very much an aggro deck).
Just my suggestion for a deck list based on playing the pre-rotation R/w Burn deck that was around. You might want to play around with the mana base a little to see if it needs to be evened out a bit. Anyway, again, just a suggestion (around $20 total):
Some hints on how to play the deck (again based on pre-rotation), use every burn card that can burn a player to burn a player rather than a creature or planeswalker unless that creature or planeswlaker is just going to get out of hand too quickly. Honestly forget about the aggro damage they are doing to you, keep your CMC low on the burn cards, and just burn them to their face over and over again. I've tried (pre-rotation) using the burn cards to control creatures they have, and I lost pretty much all those games. When I ignored their creatures and burned straight to their face, I won more games than I lost. Just as one last piece of advice, I'd probably throw a few Reprisal in your sideboard for cards that are just huge power-wise. Also, I'd put a few Negate in the sideboard as well.
Hope this helps (again, I haven't tried this deck before or a burn-centric deck post-rotation, but this is the way I played the pre-rotation R/w Burn deck).
Just my $0.02, but maybe have a few Negate in there. Unless your opponent has a counter to counter your counter (too many counters), that'll stop cards like Tormod's Crypt, Hero's Downfall, Asphyxiate, Chained to the Rocks, Gods Willing, Deflecting Palm, most (if not all) current burn cards, all Charms, and every single Planeswalker that's legal in standard right now. I'd say at least sideboard a few, but if you see a lot of those cards coming out at your local store, mainboarding a few may not be a bad idea.
The R/w Burn from pre-rotation worked a good bit better when it was mostly burn and very few creatures. I only ran a playset of each Young Pyromancer and Chandra's Phoenix.
Just my $0.02, but maybe take out some of your creatures and put in some artifacts Astral Cornucopia, Tormod's Crypt, or Briber's Purse that can be a target for Shrapnel Blast. Scuttling Doom Engine has dropped in price a good bit and is an excellent target for Shrapnel Blast though it is a six drop. Also, you seem to be missing Deflecting Palm which could do some serious burn damage to an opponent depending on whether they have a big creature on the board or not.
So, last Saturday was Gameday at my local store, and while I did come in top 8, the guy who won both game day events was running what appears to currently be a Tier 1 Mono-White Heroic deck. I wanted to see how many of the cards I had from some of the latest lists or just some very inexpensive cards (CMC-wise) that had the Heroic mechanic. Here's what I came up with (Highest CMC is 3 and only on one card). I'm considering running this tomorrow at FNM. It will probably be by far the least expensive deck there, and Stormbreath will probably give me problems. But, since it's so fast, it honestly might actually win a few games... maybe even a match or two. I'm still working on the sideboard:
This deck seems like a lot of fun and after running Artivoke right after M15 launch, I already have most of the pieces. Here's the version of the deck I intend to run. Suggestions welcome.
My first attempt/rough draft of Jeskai Artivoke. I'm a bit concerned that I may be running too many tap lands, but it might be about right. Plus, three of them plus the Nyx-Fleece Ram help offset the loss of life caused by the Pain Lands. Also, I don't know if I should be running one each of three common dual tap lands or three of the uncommon triple tap lands... both have their pluses and minuses. Any suggestions welcome!
I'm tweaking this deck. I think I spread the core purpose of this deck way too thin the last time I ran it. This is a more pure aggro version with a couple of Crypsis to push the Scuttling Doom Engines through and help with convoke since I can tap it for mana, then untap it at the beginning of my combat step and tap it again to attack. What do you all think? Suggestions welcome.
I'm honestly not sure what your budget is, so if this list is outside your budget, my apologies. One thing I find odd about Mono-Black Devotion is that, while it may not be *the* deck to beat anymore, it is still a very good deck. That said, what I find odd is that though it's still a high placing deck in tournaments, its price has dropped *dramatically* recently. This is what I'd personally run. I could be wrong, but I think this build gets your devotion up quicker than any other which helps to activate Erebos more quickly, and makes Gray Merchant that much more potent when he's played.
