I for one like the idea of UB, but ... Stranger Things? It has practically no mythology or worldbuilding to pull from. The characters are all regular joes who work and go to school, except when they're fighting monsters in a regular town, and the monsters have absolutely no depth to them at all.

This was such a weird choice.

What a terrible card. The most you can get out of each mana you put into this card is "draw a card and deal 1 damage" if you hit a U/R card. But no matter what X is and even if you were to hit a U/R card every single time, this card would still be overcosted.

A good comparison is Inspired Ultimatum. If you cast this for X = 5, it's like the Ultimatum without the lifegain and restricted to dmaging the opponent. And that's if you somehow topdeck FIVE U/R cards. This has more flexibility, I guess, but the less X is, the less cost-efficient the card becomes, so that's no real consolation.

Well, we all knew in our hearts that this card would be in the set.

In todays day and age you can put all the art in a search engine and get a look at "Image Search" to just check quickly.

What? No, that's not at all how this works. You can't search for a piece of Magic art, and then Google tells you that a small fragment of that art is similar to another, existing piece of art. Go ahead, try doing a Google image search for that last picture where Bolas takes up most of the space.

This has to be sarcasm. Please tell me it is sarcasm.

EDIT: Okay, apparently it's not. Please tell me how WOTC was supposed to figure out that part of one image of a single Magic card was lifted from one of thousands pieces of Magic fan art. Explain the process to me.

Disregarding everything else, you know what makes this worth playing?

Your opponent looks at your board. Sees only three untapped Mountains. Casts Emergent Ultimatum, extends their hand and says "good game". And then ...

Yeah, after 20 years of supplementary products that you don't have to play with, including My Little Pony and Funko Pops, this is definitely is a step too far!

WTF are you talking about? You wrote the thread's longest post complaining about standard when it clearly says THEY WILL NOT BE STANDARD LEGAL?

As someone who was excited by what Kaldheim had to offer B/R aggro, I just about screamed.

But it's probably not as bad as I first thought.

If I'm on the play and my opponent T2 foretells this (or anything, really), that's most likely three turns for me to smack their face with impunity while they do nothing but set up their response. And if they tap out to board wipe on their T3, there's a good chance I still have a handful of juice leftover. It could be worse for me.

The point is, this isn't just a 1WW Wrath. It's a 1WW Wrath that your opponent has to go defenseless for a turn to set up. A good fast aggro player should be able to exploit that.

"Be able to exploit" how? If they're on the play, they take out your turn 1 and 2 play while only taking one hit from your one-drop.

Cast your mind back to Ramunap Ruins it dominated standard so hard it had to be banned.

For reasons that are pretty unapplicable to this land, like how you could get 4-6 uses out of the Ruins.

Only 4 mana to bring back your favorite creature and 2 elf tokens alongside it? That's good value.

    And your second turn.

The randomness clause on Tibalt's Trickery is obviously a way of preventing from countering their own spell and putting a scried Emrakul straight into play, but it seems like they're leaving the door open for a bit of manipulation.
