The life counter is the only thing I really want from the set. (Oversized Sliver Queen is pretty cool, though.) Hopefully WotC (or some other accessory company) will realize that they should mass produce these things to make them more available. It would be nice to hear how they are from someone who has them though.
There's an item on Kickstarter that I'm watching, though, that might satisfy the need. Search for dice spinner rings, and you'll see that the guys making that product are trying to get turn their 2d10 (00-99) ring into a life counter. That's pretty nice too, and probably more durable than the plastic life counter from this set, just not as convenient since it won't sit on the table.
^ I agree. Also has anyone managed to gain any information from the official Commander site before it went down? Theres that little note at the bottom of the picture.
They revealed The Mimeoplasm as one of the 18 foils.
That you are able to play with your card is awesome. I see so many people asking for that every prerelease. Seeing as the Gatecrash prerelease package is also confirmed to be the same idea, they might be collecting data on playing the card during the prerelease and then perhaps if succesfull, make it that way for all prereleases in the future.
The only reason the prerelease card works is because the guild booster helps guarantee that your deck will match up with your prerelease card. You'll have better card selection in those colors. That won't happen in a normal prerelease.
Essence of the Wild and Phantasmal Image both have replacement effects. So if I have an Essence on the battlefield and play an Image... what does it become? An Essence copy, or whatever I want to copy?
Wizards of the Coast returns to Boston as an official tabletop sponsor for PAX East on March 11-13. Stop by booth 648 for demos of Magic: The Gathering, Archenemy, Duels of the Planeswalkers, and an exciting PC demo of something so new we can't even talk about it here ... yet.
...
Join us Friday at 5 p.m. in the Merman Theatre for a seminar to learn all about Magic: The Gathering Commander multiplayer format from Brand, R&D, and Magic community members. We hear there might even be a surprise or two ... but you'll have to come and see for yourself.
(emphasis added)
I'll go ahead and beat everyone to it: Please let it be a real Shandalar sequel!
So I guess next Friday we'll start hearing news come out of PAX about what these are, but the Wizards might officially announce the PC game a little earlier, just so people will really know what to expect.
It's not just the infect creatures to watch out for. In my prerelease pool, I had 2 copies of Tainted Strike. That, along with 2 Molder Beasts (big and trample-y) and a Quicksilver Gargantuan (which never copied an infect creature like I wanted to do) were what ended most of my games. The smaller infect guys got in for a few counters early, then a tainted big guy finished them off out of nowhere. 6 out of the 7 games I won in 4 rounds that day were from poison counters, and I took 2nd place. I even won my last game by swinging for 10 counters all at once. Tainted Strike makes poison extremely viable in limited.
The actual release date has yet to be announced. June 1st was only intended to be the date for the start of pre-orders on Steam. From the press release:
Pre-Sale for Duels of the Planeswalkers on Steam will begin on June 1, 2010 and will combine the core game and Expansion Pack 1 for $9.99.
Based on the email (excerpt) that was posted, I would imagine that the game won't actually be available for download until June 15th. They're probably just giving the store owners notification that they won't need to worry about distributing the promo until that date.
(Note: The 15th is a Tuesday, and most video games, outside of the major events like Madden, Mario, Halo, etc., release on Tuesdays.)
Wasn't it supposed to be available today? I can't find any mention of it on the steam store, what's up with that? Do they update later in the day or something? Anyone know if it's still scheduled for today?
The Steam store usually updates at either 11am or noon, EST. So we should see it in the 2 or 3 hours. Once it goes up for preload, it should specify the release date on the product page.
If it's going up for preload (and not pre-order, like Civ 5 for example) then the game is done. It's possible that there could be a few tweaks remaining, but you're downloading the actual game when you preload it.

Great, now I can't stop thinking about it. And I want it so much.
Maybe one guy has level up, and he levels into a planeswalker?!

The Duelist was a full magazine and either it's a lot smaller than I remember, or your hands are enormous.
I knew the guy was good, but wow, that didn't take long to jump.
