Just curious what theories people had for Bolas wanting to release such destructive entities from captivity. It's always possible that WOTC doesnt have their own clear answer, yet.

One thought I had recently was that Bolas wanted them to be destroyed. From the beginning Ugin believed that the titans potentially played some grand role in the Multiverse besides just being eldritch monstrosities of the Blind Eternities' "ecosystem". I wonder if Bolas believes that their destruction will trigger a cataclymic event that could undo the Mending. Bolas' plotting and schemeing is about recovering his pre-Mending power so one would think this must have something to do with it. Obviously WOTC would never allow the Mending to be undone, since Planeswalkers are meant to be more real and relatable characters now. But I could see this being one mechanism in Bolas' grand scheme to regain his power.

My idea is a probably a stretch, but Bolas releasing the Eldrazi just to cause destruction while he twirls his mustache seems so trite and uninspired. I just hope that WOTC has something good in the works to explain all of Bolas' machinations.

Well, if the Eldrazi are truly defeated I am definitely in the camp that's disappointed by this story (and much of the storytelling itself). I wasnt wooed by this story and the ending was beyond disappointing. I completely disagree with Maro's statement about the team losing their first battle would be bad. Some of the most compelling storytelling is how a protagonist responds to defeat and if theyre able to overcome the loss. They obviously just wanted to force the Justice League as much as possible.

The Eldrazi were suppose to be inscrutable, monstrosities from the Blind Eternities and they just end up losing to a bunch of boy scouts. It was disheartening to hear that Creative never really thought about the Eldrazi winning. But oh well, what's done is done. I hope future stories are more compelling. At the very least Ugin better be enraged, and seek out some kind of "justice" for disobeying him. Heck, I would like it if he actually became an enemy of the Gatewatch. That would create interesting tension if they ever had to team up to fight big bads that threaten worlds or the Multiverse itself.

As if Jace, Vryn's Prodigy wasn't good enough already. Madness is going to make him even more insane.

Also, I'm honestly liking what I'm seeing. Clues, dfc, graveyard, cool reprints, MADNESS, skulk etc etc. I'm honestly very excited so far, hopefully the rest of the set just keeps getting better.

I wonder if land untapping will have a cycle or be a theme.. It's obviously a dangerous mechanic, but one can hope!

Is it just me or does it feel terribly awkward to have a one-mana Eldrazi? It doesn't really fit the feel or the flavor of these unblinking, consuming otherworldly horrors. Don't get me wrong, it feels off having them be any cheaper then five or six mana, but to have them for just one is so weird. Not to say that the card isn't good, it's a lot of what aggressive BR Eldrazi decks have been needing and asking for and it could see some play alongside Forerunner of Slaughter, Flayer Drone, Dominator Drone, Wasteland Strangler and Dust Stalker. It really could be a legitimate strategy if it gets enough support. If you play it in a dedicated deck, this is basically a black Savannah Lions and that's perfectly fine.
There are the scions and spawns, just think this one as a overgrown scion.

Indeed, but the flavor behind a Scion/Spawn is different from an actual, fully-grown Eldrazi. Scions/Spawn are more like a physical extension of their parent titan, while Drones are their own creature. I mean, I know that my complaints are just flavor-based, but still. These new Eldrazi don't really give off the same feeling of size, hopelessness and dread that the old ones used to.

Actually all non-titan eldrazi (ie anything not named Ulamog, Kozilek, or Emrakul) are extensions, limbs, organs etc of one of the legendary Eldrazi. Whether it's a spawn or scion or Oblivion Sower or It that Betrays none of them are their "own creature" parse.

This thing is just hysterical in EDH

This card is so much worse in EDH than anywhere else. In EDH resources are plentiful and 10 life isn't even a damning swing there. In EDH the target has all the options available to them.

This is actually an excellent example of a card that's not "Good in EDH". (I swear to god if I see one more idiot asking "What isn't good in EDH hurrrr durrrr")

I guess in EDH you have access to a lot of recursion for incremental advantage so I suppose it could be "hysterical" in a deck with Eternal Witness, Mimic Vat, greenwarden of murasa, and cards of that ilk.

    i don't like it.
caller of the claw it's way better:
    A) More relevant creature type
    B) 2/2 are way better than 1/1 (one shot colorless mana)
    C) Casting cost

Well, you also have to look at each within their standard format not just a vacuum. Coloress and eldrazi subtype can matter in this format, plus these aren't just vanilla 1/1's, they are mana. Not to mention Bx Eldrazi has become a decent modern deck, now I dont know if this can make the cut, but disregarding it for the reasons that you said isnt necessarily a fair assessment. Another thing is if Caller of the Claw is countered you get zero tokens, this new guy is a cast trigger, so even if the 3/3 is countered you will still get your scions.

Avacyn Restored was not liked by some. I would like to know why?

I wanted Angels to be the white tribe in Avacyn Restored, with the human survivors taking a breather after almost being wiped out in Dark Ascension. But since there were only 2 common Angels and 3 uncommon Angels, you could not make a real Angel deck.

-It was a really boring limited format
-Not a strong horror theme like the first two sets
    -No dfc

Maybe instead of the Eldrazi we will see one of the other big bads of the Multiverse, namely the Phyrexians. The flavor text on Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite hints at the Phyrexians' knowledge of other worlds. This is some hardcore speculation because they would have to find a way to travel the multiverse, maybe Jin-Gitaxias finds away. One possible option might be with the spark from our friend Koth, of the Hammer. So Avacyn and the angels could have been corrupted. WOTC did want to tie up loose ends, but who knows when they will bring back the Phyrexians.

I should qualify that statement. I have a BUG eldrazi deck and any utility creature that exiles something is very exciting.

Sorry for the confusion my first idea was a processor. So, When it processed a card and it was an instant or sorcery you could cast it until end of turn. I just didnt edit my post once i changed the idea for the eldrazi. Smile

CCCC made me instantly think of Phyrexian Obliterator and an Eldrazi version that causes an opponent to exile permanents would be insane. Never going to happen, but i can dream. However i would also love some aggressively costed processors. I just wonder how far they can push the power level because of older formats where you have access to so many quality lands that tap for at least <>.

What does Wrexial add that Lorthos couldn't, though? Surely Kiora would have been aware of him if he was a remotely viable option.

Zendikar legends who haven't gotten a story mention in BFZ:
    Iona, Shield of Emeria
    Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs
    Linvala, Keeper of Silence
Omnath, Locus of Mana // Omnath, Locus of Rage
    Thada Adel, Acquisitor
    Wrexial, the Risen Deep

The legend I'm most irked about not even getting a story mention this entire time is obviously Omnath. But also, where's Iona? She's ginormous, has a great ability, is referenced on other cards, was noteworthy for not wearing a halo...is she the last angelic holdout on the plane? Or is she gone?

Kazuul, Thada, and Wrexial I care less about because their roles could easily be filled by other characters (e.g. Jori En could have been Thada) and Linvala seemed like a way to get a needed effect onto a Standard card more than anything.

Cast instants or sorceries from his opponent's graveyard.

I am big fan of all the unique and weird Eldrazi that have come from ROE and BFZ: Oblivion sower fathom feeder void winnower, it that betrays, artisan of kozilek, sire of stagnation, conduit of ruin etc.

With that being said I thought it would be fun to speculate about what other fun and unique non-Legendary Eldrazi we might see with OGW. Personally I am hoping for more of the exile matter with processors and hopefully more unique effects like Oblivion Sower show up.

Leyline of the Void on an Eldrazi-stick would be cool and simple design.

    6
    Creature- Eldrazi
At the beginning of your upkeep, each opponent exiles the top card of his or her library.
You may cast instants or sorceries exiled by ~ without paying their mana costs.
    6/7

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but the above function just fine, right? You could cast the card from the graveyard and have it return to the graveyard upon resolution?

All this love and talk about where Omnath and Lorthos have been, but no ones talking about WREXIAL! I would love to see that Kraken again. I know this comment doesn't add very much to the conversation, I just really like Wrexial and since all the other legendaries of the past are showing up in the story and on cards.... well, a guy can hope cant he?

Oooor I could really get behind a Wrexial-esque Eldrazi at least, but when it deals combat damage to player it can cast an instant or sorcery from exile. I dont want to get to far into custom cards so I'll leave it at that. Some kind of nod to Wrexial would be exciting.
