Haha I've had a few dumbfounded looks after some quick kills. The Cyclops is a lot of fun and I love his art - I always picture a Big Daddy from Bioshock just rushing you, arms flailing which is not unlike the artwork. So.. yeah props to Wayne Reynolds for the neat art.
I like your deck a lot, it seems way more controlling but also can 'go off' with Armed // Dangerous. I see you also still run Unsummons, I'm curious as to why? I haven't tested them however they seem like good protection against Supreme Verdict which IMO is most common card that gives me trouble.
I like boros charm a lot more over armed//dangerous here - all 3 modes are great for us (beats supreme verdict even), a great topdeck and instant speed is massive. I don't find it wrecks the manabase too much either.
Unsummons I almost always am using to bounce my opponents guys, and then counter them or some such, or get through for damage.
I also like electrickery a lot in the side generally, but no-one around me is running much boros token crap at the moment.
Thing I love about this is that you just kill people if you can untap with a cyclops. Only need 3-4 lands, the rest get pitched to 'discard 2 effects'
And elsewise between dispel, izzet charm and mizzium skin there are plenty of options to protect your man so he can go the distance. It plays a decent control game, but most of the time you can ignore what you opponent plays because you'll be faster.
The amount of times I've cast a dispel targeting my own artful dodge just for the +3 is actually hilarious.
I've also found you really want 1 mana stuff in hand at all times. Turn//Burn and Spell Rupture have both had spots prior, but have ended up 1 mana short of the kill too many times.
Fun fun deck, and in summary it's pretty sweet swinging for 20 on turn 4.
Lawful Neutral: Simic - not sure, but I don't know where else I would put them. Maybe even chaotic good.
True Neutral: Selesnya? (they remind me of druids a lot)
Chaotic Neutral: Izzet, Gruul
Lawful Evil: Orzhov (capitalist pigs! :argh:)
Neutral Evil: Golgari, Dimir - I wouldn't exactly class these guys as lawful. They do some pretty underhanded stuff.)
Chaotic Evil: Rakdos
(Bored in class)
Do you agreee?
Don't think they slot into the categories perfectly - my guess is in a true representation you would have gaps in your spectrum.
Also motives of some ravnica guilds are less melodramatic than in generic fantasy settings, just because there are so many and they need to be distinctive. I would think you could argue either way on a lot of them.
Harm's Way
Serra Angel
Undead Slayer (although he may not be particularly relevant - against black decks he will be the no. 1 target for their plentiful removal.)
White Knight
Black is packed full of removal as usual,
Assassinate
Doom Blade
Dread Warlock - I expect these guys to go quite highly against reasonable players
Drudge Skeletons
Gravedigger
Tendrils of Corruption
and then some other cards you'd probably be pretty happy to play
Disentomb
Child of Night
Weakness
Blue has some good flyers, but lacks the depth of white and black.
That's pretty weird... The rotations aren't going to be nearly as easy to keep track of as they used to be.
Ah, I don't think it'll be too bad. I like how now there is only rotation per year. It'll play havoc with extended for a while, but when they make wholesale changes to the release structure that was bound to happen. If they had kept the old system but started releasing core sets annually (instead of every other year) that would probably been more confusing.
I know, but I think they are changing the way core sets rotate. I'm pretty sure 10th rotates out with Lorwyn, not when m10 comes in. I think there will be a core set overlap.
Yeah pretty sure this is right - so its like:
M!0 in - 10th out
Zen in - Lorwyn out
M11 in - no change
Next set in - Alara out and M10 out.
But hows about the mighty bolt reprinted? Kind of a big deal.
Edit - wait, that doesn't agree with what you said at all :/
Agony Warp - I would probably go with the branching bolt actually, but that means you pass a ceredon and a bloodpyre elemental.
Sculler
Sanctum - you really want to drop sculler t2, and I'm a convert to the school of TAKE THE TRILANDS. Especially on colour ones.
Specter. He's pretty much a house. at this point id be looking to go grixis.
Ogre

Note I made these picks in order, I hadn't looked at the whole draft yet.
So a pretty nice grixis deck ends up in my lap, plenty of removals and some big beaters. This is the kind of reason why I P1P1 Warp over sharrum here - Sharrum is not SOOO bombtastic in the same way that say, Lavalanche is, and so I can acceptably pass it over.
Deck makes itself more or less, but I wouldn't play sculler here.
Game 1 - Get some quick beats in then he stabilizes, but cant go on the offensive due to my Sureblade. He ends up playing all sort of scary guys including Empyrial Archangel and Nemesis of Reason, but I have removal/tricks to deal with them. I draw Sledge, he can't answer and that is game.
Game 2 he gets some guys down and we race, but he drops archangel and things look dire. I have 5 guys on the board but no good attacks. A topdecked Naya Charm lets me tap him down and swing for exactly lethal.
Round 2 -
Game 1 - He looks to be playing 5c control and takes way too long to fix his mana/stabilise, and so I get him to a point where he needs to chump and my active Archers wreck him pretty badly, he misplayed a few times and ended up being a 5 for 1 or something
Game 2 is much the same, although I have only an aven to beat with, and he drops etherwrought page, and starts gaining 2 life a turn. So it takes a bit longer, but I draw guys while he draws blanks. and I take it down.
Round 3 - Playing a GWrb concoction.
G1 I have to mull to 5 and then cant find a white source, and although my board position is not to bad, throughout the game, He drops double meditants and I can't keep up, dying with 3 white cards in hand.
G2 I mull to 6 and keep an agressive hand, he also has early plays and we race. At 10 life each the ground stabilizes with my sureblade vs his slaughtermaster, but I have a trailblazer to keep beating. He has crystallization for it, and we both end up playing more and more guys, and removing each other's threats. The game goes extremely long, and I look for naya charm for the win, but eventually he can equip a demonspine whip to a trailblazer and I don't have an answer.
Disappointing to lose to a deck that I suspect was pretty inferior to mine, but I guess I have myself to blame for not having the correct fixing available.
So yeah, 2-1.
Edit: Agree with Sylvan bounty. However, in a vacuum do you not rate him as a 2 mana 2/1? I'm having trouble evaluating this guy, and would like to hear some opinions. It seems like he is insane with violent outburst and colossal might (or outburst into might.. drool), and I'd be tempted to pick him up here him even without planning to play black, (If I could pick up a veinfire borderpost, that would be ideal) it would allow you to take hackblades and backlashes more freely, or even splash for a terminate or something.
Pack 1 pick 1:
Relic of Progenitus
Resounding Wave
Soul's Might
--> Knight of the Skyward Eye
Resounding Scream
Naya Panorama
Tortoise Formation
Lush Growth
Agony Warp
Kathari Screecher
Crumbling Necropolis
Jhessian Infiltrator
Dragon's Herald
Brilliant Ultimatum
Island
Choices here are Necropolis, Agony Warp, (Screecher) and KotSE. I like this guy alot, and he 1) is less committal than the warp 2) is pretty much the only good green or white card in the pack.
Stinger here is tempting, but I would love to be able to build some sort of GWr aggro and Nactal is first-pickable in that archetype. Also ther isn't much on offer in white or green here that sends a strong signal.
Yay for me. Seems like no-one wants to be Gx aggro except me. Ideally Ultimatum will table but that is about as likely as me getting a 1900 rating.
Pack 1 pick 7:
Cathartic Adept
--> Lightning Talons
Onyx Goblet
Obelisk of Esper
Shadowfeed
Waveskimmer Aven
Guardians of Akrasa
Behemoth's Herald
Island
Weak pack, this may make the cut if I am short of playables, or come up against something with very little removal. Better than hating the aven I think.
Pack 1 pick 8:
--> Yoked Plowbeast
Dregscape Zombie
Savage Hunger
Undead Leotau
Jhessian Lookout (FOIL)
Spell Snip
Behemoth's Herald
Island
Maybe Savage hunger? I suppose it's better than talons.
Pack 1 pick 9:
--> Relic of Progenitus
Soul's Might
Resounding Scream
Tortoise Formation
Dragon's Herald
Brilliant Ultimatum
Island
Bant blade is my blade of choice here. So many guys just cant block him. Viashino is a beast, but I like the blade here.
Pack 3 pick 4:
Architects of Will
Terminate
Cerodon Yearling
Deny Reality
Glassdust Hulk
Magefire Wings
Kathari Bomber
Vedalken Ghoul
--> Violent Outburst
Ardent Plea
Morbid Bloom
Mountain
Another odd pick to make. Outburst ends up making the deck, but I considered hating the terminate (or splashing), or just taking the yearling, although they usually table.
Pack 3 pick 5:
Architects of Will
--> Cerodon Yearling
Magefire Wings
Trace of Abundance
Kathari Bomber
Vedalken Ghoul
Violent Outburst
Shield of the Righteous
Drastic Revelation
Morbid Bloom
Plains
I would have actually gone P1P1 Tower Garg here. Maybe i'm biased, but I've been blown out by him so many times, I realize he commits you pretty hard, but it would seem you can pick up a pretty nice esper deck, especially seeing as conflux offers you 2x strix, esperzoa and a late kaleidostone.
I just contacted all the other players that I need to play against. This is one of the few times I'm glad I'm unemployed, it makes setting up times to play much easier.

1 Unsummon

also, AI - LOL @ your MWS *rofl* button.
and hooray new thread.I missed the opening though.

Just in time too - checked my PMs and I was about to be booted TODAY!
Agree that planechase is extraordinarily unexciting.
Disagree that cottage cheese is good in lasagna, or in fact anything. Does that make me weird?
so get all super-nerdy on everyone's ass, I would hazard that Zombie is in fact a super-type in these situations.
We can have say, a Bird Soldier
and it may also make sense to have a Zombie Bird Soldier.
So zombie is like snow. or legendary.
just my 2c.
Looks like white will be the colour to be in, with some decent flyers, aggressively costed weenies, some good removal and some nice tricks.
I imagine commons to watch out for are:
Blinding Mage
Divine Verdict
Pacifism
Razorfoot Griffin
Safe Passage
Stormfront Pegasus
Veteran Armorsmith
Veteran Weaponsmith
And at uncommon we have
Harm's Way
Serra Angel
Undead Slayer (although he may not be particularly relevant - against black decks he will be the no. 1 target for their plentiful removal.)
White Knight
Black is packed full of removal as usual,
Assassinate
Doom Blade

Drudge Skeletons

Disentomb
Child of Night
Weakness
Blue has some good flyers, but lacks the depth of white and black.
Merfolk Looter
Snapping Drake
Wind Drake
Horned Turtle
are all probably welcome picks for a W/u, B/u archetype of some sort.
Both green and red look extremely shallow at common currently.
Any other thoughts?
For me, at the draft table I'll definitely be trying to get my hands on a W/B concoction hopefully with some ridiculous bombs.
Ah, I don't think it'll be too bad. I like how now there is only rotation per year.
