    Haha I've had a few dumbfounded looks after some quick kills. The Cyclops is a lot of fun and I love his art - I always picture a Big Daddy from Bioshock just rushing you, arms flailing which is not unlike the artwork. So.. yeah props to Wayne Reynolds for the neat art.

    I like your deck a lot, it seems way more controlling but also can 'go off' with Armed // Dangerous. I see you also still run Unsummons, I'm curious as to why? I haven't tested them however they seem like good protection against Supreme Verdict which IMO is most common card that gives me trouble.

    I like boros charm a lot more over armed//dangerous here - all 3 modes are great for us (beats supreme verdict even), a great topdeck and instant speed is massive. I don't find it wrecks the manabase too much either.

    Unsummons I almost always am using to bounce my opponents guys, and then counter them or some such, or get through for damage.

    I also like electrickery a lot in the side generally, but no-one around me is running much boros token crap at the moment.

    been having some success in my local meta with a similar deck, not quite nailed down yet (don't have all the cards yet):

    Thing I love about this is that you just kill people if you can untap with a cyclops. Only need 3-4 lands, the rest get pitched to 'discard 2 effects'

    And elsewise between dispel, izzet charm and mizzium skin there are plenty of options to protect your man so he can go the distance. It plays a decent control game, but most of the time you can ignore what you opponent plays because you'll be faster.

    The amount of times I've cast a dispel targeting my own artful dodge just for the +3 is actually hilarious.

    I've also found you really want 1 mana stuff in hand at all times. Turn//Burn and Spell Rupture have both had spots prior, but have ended up 1 mana short of the kill too many times.

    Fun fun deck, and in summary it's pretty sweet swinging for 20 on turn 4.

    Hi guys
    Been a while.
    How iz people

    Need opinions

    Lawful Good: Azorius
    Neutral Good: Selesnya
    Chaotic Good: Boros

    Lawful Neutral: Simic - not sure, but I don't know where else I would put them. Maybe even chaotic good.
    True Neutral: Selesnya? (they remind me of druids a lot)
    Chaotic Neutral: Izzet, Gruul

    Lawful Evil: Orzhov (capitalist pigs! :argh:)
    Neutral Evil: Golgari, Dimir - I wouldn't exactly class these guys as lawful. They do some pretty underhanded stuff.)
    Chaotic Evil: Rakdos

    (Bored in class)
    Do you agreee?

    Don't think they slot into the categories perfectly - my guess is in a true representation you would have gaps in your spectrum.

    Also motives of some ravnica guilds are less melodramatic than in generic fantasy settings, just because there are so many and they need to be distinctive. I would think you could argue either way on a lot of them.

    heeeeyyy im back from holidays.

    Just in time too - checked my PMs and I was about to be booted TODAY!

    Agree that planechase is extraordinarily unexciting.
    Disagree that cottage cheese is good in lasagna, or in fact anything. Does that make me weird?

    so we have a type of Zombie (which is an abbreviation of the redundant Human Zombie)

    so get all super-nerdy on everyone's ass, I would hazard that Zombie is in fact a super-type in these situations.

    We can have say, a Bird Soldier
    and it may also make sense to have a Zombie Bird Soldier.

    So zombie is like snow. or legendary.

    just my 2c.

    Given what's currently been spoiled, I was trying to get a feel for how the limited format is going to shape up.

    Looks like white will be the colour to be in, with some decent flyers, aggressively costed weenies, some good removal and some nice tricks.

    I imagine commons to watch out for are:

    Blinding Mage
    Divine Verdict
    Pacifism
    Razorfoot Griffin
    Safe Passage
    Stormfront Pegasus
    Veteran Armorsmith
    Veteran Weaponsmith

    And at uncommon we have

    Harm's Way
    Serra Angel
    Undead Slayer (although he may not be particularly relevant - against black decks he will be the no. 1 target for their plentiful removal.)
    White Knight

    Black is packed full of removal as usual,

    Assassinate
    Doom Blade
    Dread Warlock - I expect these guys to go quite highly against reasonable players
    Drudge Skeletons
    Gravedigger
    Tendrils of Corruption

    and then some other cards you'd probably be pretty happy to play

    Disentomb
    Child of Night
    Weakness

    Blue has some good flyers, but lacks the depth of white and black.

    Merfolk Looter
    Snapping Drake
    Wind Drake
    Horned Turtle

    are all probably welcome picks for a W/u, B/u archetype of some sort.

    Both green and red look extremely shallow at common currently.

    Any other thoughts?

    For me, at the draft table I'll definitely be trying to get my hands on a W/B concoction hopefully with some ridiculous bombs.

    That's pretty weird... The rotations aren't going to be nearly as easy to keep track of as they used to be. Slant

    Ah, I don't think it'll be too bad. I like how now there is only rotation per year. It'll play havoc with extended for a while, but when they make wholesale changes to the release structure that was bound to happen. If they had kept the old system but started releasing core sets annually (instead of every other year) that would probably been more confusing.

    I know, but I think they are changing the way core sets rotate. I'm pretty sure 10th rotates out with Lorwyn, not when m10 comes in. I think there will be a core set overlap.

    Yeah pretty sure this is right - so its like:

    M!0 in - 10th out
    Zen in - Lorwyn out
    M11 in - no change
    Next set in - Alara out and M10 out.

    But hows about the mighty bolt reprinted? Kind of a big deal.

    Edit - wait, that doesn't agree with what you said at all :/

    My picks:

    Agony Warp - I would probably go with the branching bolt actually, but that means you pass a ceredon and a bloodpyre elemental.

    Sculler

    Sanctum - you really want to drop sculler t2, and I'm a convert to the school of TAKE THE TRILANDS. Especially on colour ones.

    Specter. He's pretty much a house. at this point id be looking to go grixis.

    Ogre
    Strix
    Blightning
    Deathraiders
    Panorama. Battlemage is very tempting, but I feel like we want to be swinging in with our guys rather than improving card quality.

    Deathraiders
    Shadowfeed
    Creeper
    *
    *
    *

    Dragon. Just a huge beatstick. plus I have some goblins for him to eat.
    Drag down
    Goblins
    Ignite Disorder
    Zombie
    Font (eh)
    Mastery
    Brackwater
    Agents
    Frame
    Knotvine
    Sage
    Stone
    *
    *

    Bit. Blast
    Terminate
    Skyclaw
    Zombies
    Remnant
    Mask
    Coatl
    Carabid
    Veinfire
    Architechts
    Singe-Mind
    *
    *
    *

    Note I made these picks in order, I hadn't looked at the whole draft yet.
    So a pretty nice grixis deck ends up in my lap, plenty of removals and some big beaters. This is the kind of reason why I P1P1 Warp over sharrum here - Sharrum is not SOOO bombtastic in the same way that say, Lavalanche is, and so I can acceptably pass it over.

    Deck makes itself more or less, but I wouldn't play sculler here.

    Your powers of intuition astound me.

    Round 1 -

    Game 1 - Get some quick beats in then he stabilizes, but cant go on the offensive due to my Sureblade. He ends up playing all sort of scary guys including Empyrial Archangel and Nemesis of Reason, but I have removal/tricks to deal with them. I draw Sledge, he can't answer and that is game.

    Game 2 he gets some guys down and we race, but he drops archangel and things look dire. I have 5 guys on the board but no good attacks. A topdecked Naya Charm lets me tap him down and swing for exactly lethal.

    Round 2 -

    Game 1 - He looks to be playing 5c control and takes way too long to fix his mana/stabilise, and so I get him to a point where he needs to chump and my active Archers wreck him pretty badly, he misplayed a few times and ended up being a 5 for 1 or something

    Game 2 is much the same, although I have only an aven to beat with, and he drops etherwrought page, and starts gaining 2 life a turn. So it takes a bit longer, but I draw guys while he draws blanks. and I take it down.

    Round 3 - Playing a GWrb concoction.

    G1 I have to mull to 5 and then cant find a white source, and although my board position is not to bad, throughout the game, He drops double meditants and I can't keep up, dying with 3 white cards in hand.

    G2 I mull to 6 and keep an agressive hand, he also has early plays and we race. At 10 life each the ground stabilizes with my sureblade vs his slaughtermaster, but I have a trailblazer to keep beating. He has crystallization for it, and we both end up playing more and more guys, and removing each other's threats. The game goes extremely long, and I look for naya charm for the win, but eventually he can equip a demonspine whip to a trailblazer and I don't have an answer.

    Disappointing to lose to a deck that I suspect was pretty inferior to mine, but I guess I have myself to blame for not having the correct fixing available.

    So yeah, 2-1.

    Edit: Agree with Sylvan bounty. However, in a vacuum do you not rate him as a 2 mana 2/1? I'm having trouble evaluating this guy, and would like to hear some opinions. It seems like he is insane with violent outburst and colossal might (or outburst into might.. drool), and I'd be tempted to pick him up here him even without planning to play black, (If I could pick up a veinfire borderpost, that would be ideal) it would allow you to take hackblades and backlashes more freely, or even splash for a terminate or something.

    ok so after a really awful streak, I am hoping that this one turns out a bit better. This is a swiss queue.

    Event #: 425194
    Time: 6/18/2009 7:15:49 PM
    Players:
    mhichal
    --> got_im
    007650
    pkkpms
    Frazhe
    Ledzeblin
    eckoh79
    MadHatter87

    ------ ALA ------

    Pack 1 pick 1:
    Relic of Progenitus
    Resounding Wave
    Soul's Might
    --> Knight of the Skyward Eye
    Resounding Scream
    Naya Panorama
    Tortoise Formation
    Lush Growth
    Agony Warp
    Kathari Screecher
    Crumbling Necropolis
    Jhessian Infiltrator
    Dragon's Herald
    Brilliant Ultimatum
    Island

    Choices here are Necropolis, Agony Warp, (Screecher) and KotSE. I like this guy alot, and he 1) is less committal than the warp 2) is pretty much the only good green or white card in the pack.

    Pack 1 pick 2:
    Sighted-Caste Sorcerer
    Shore Snapper
    Steward of Valeron
    Mosstodon
    Plains (FOIL)
    Jund Panorama
    Relic of Progenitus
    Hindering Light
    Vithian Stinger
    --> Wild Nacatl
    Esper Battlemage
    Angelic Benediction
    Sphinx's Herald
    Mountain

    Stinger here is tempting, but I would love to be able to build some sort of GWr aggro and Nactal is first-pickable in that archetype. Also ther isn't much on offer in white or green here that sends a strong signal.

    Pack 1 pick 3:
    Tidehollow Strix
    Coma Veil
    Sanctum Gargoyle
    Cavern Thoctar (FOIL)
    Esper Panorama
    Hindering Light
    Grixis Panorama
    Glaze Fiend
    Vithian Stinger
    Naya Battlemage
    --> Naya Charm
    Cunning Lethemancer
    Mountain

    Lovely. Shame the battlemage is in the same pack.

    Pack 1 pick 4:
    Cylian Elf
    Call to Heel
    Yoked Plowbeast
    Obelisk of Grixis
    Blister Beetle
    Cavern Thoctar
    Spell Snip
    Dispeller's Capsule
    Volcanic Submersion
    --> Topan Ascetic
    Cradle of Vitality
    Plains

    Obv.

    Pack 1 pick 5:
    Goblin Mountaineer
    Elvish Visionary
    Sighted-Caste Sorcerer
    --> Bloodpyre Elemental
    Esper Panorama
    Obelisk of Naya
    Gift of the Gargantuan
    Windwright Mage
    Dawnray Archer
    Algae Gharial
    Mountain

    Here I considered the Gharial, but seeing as this is pretty decent removal, I'll go fo it.

    Pack 1 pick 6:
    Grixis Battlemage (FOIL)
    Deathgreeter
    Resounding Roar
    Outrider of Jhess
    Grixis Panorama
    Obelisk of Bant
    --> Wild Nacatl
    Bant Battlemage
    Titanic Ultimatum
    Mountain

    Yay for me. Seems like no-one wants to be Gx aggro except me. Ideally Ultimatum will table but that is about as likely as me getting a 1900 rating.

    Pack 1 pick 7:
    Cathartic Adept
    --> Lightning Talons
    Onyx Goblet
    Obelisk of Esper
    Shadowfeed
    Waveskimmer Aven
    Guardians of Akrasa
    Behemoth's Herald
    Island

    Weak pack, this may make the cut if I am short of playables, or come up against something with very little removal. Better than hating the aven I think.

    Pack 1 pick 8:
    --> Yoked Plowbeast
    Dregscape Zombie
    Savage Hunger
    Undead Leotau
    Jhessian Lookout (FOIL)
    Spell Snip
    Behemoth's Herald
    Island

    Maybe Savage hunger? I suppose it's better than talons.

    Pack 1 pick 9:
    --> Relic of Progenitus
    Soul's Might
    Resounding Scream
    Tortoise Formation
    Dragon's Herald
    Brilliant Ultimatum
    Island

    Ok well as expected nothing for me here.

    Pack 1 pick 10:
    Plains (FOIL)
    Relic of Progenitus
    Hindering Light
    --> Angelic Benediction
    Sphinx's Herald
    Mountain

    This tabled, and wow - I think this is great in my deck.

    Pack 1 pick 11:
    Coma Veil
    --> Hindering Light
    Glaze Fiend
    Cunning Lethemancer
    Mountain

    Pack 1 pick 12:
    Yoked Plowbeast
    Spell Snip
    --> Volcanic Submersion
    Plains

    Pack 1 pick 13:
    Goblin Mountaineer
    --> Sighted-Caste Sorcerer
    Mountain

    Odd

    Pack 1 pick 14:
    --> Outrider of Jhess
    Mountain

    Pack 1 pick 15:
    --> Island

    Ok so at this point I'm looking like I want to be GWr. I need to be conscious of picking up some fixing here I think.

    ------ CON ------

    Pack 2 pick 1:
    Fiery Fall
    Pestilent Kathari
    Valeron Outlander
    Armillary Sphere
    Drag Down
    Goblin Outlander
    Constricting Tendrils
    Tukatongue Thallid
    Asha's Favor
    Rupture Spire
    Nacatl Hunt-Pride
    Hellspark Elemental
    Volcanic Fallout
    --> Meglonoth
    Mountain

    Pretty bomby for me, and Fallout kills too many of my guys I think.

    Pack 2 pick 2:
    Parasitic Strix
    Matca Rioters
    Bone Saw
    Drag Down
    Canyon Minotaur
    Tukatongue Thallid
    Lapse of Certainty
    Rupture Spire
    Suicidal Charge
    Filigree Fracture
    Elder Mastery
    --> Path to Exile
    Master Transmuter
    Island

    The win.

    Pack 2 pick 3:
    --> Valeron Outlander
    Sylvan Bounty
    Aven Squire
    Pestilent Kathari
    Valiant Guard
    Grixis Illusionist
    Reliquary Tower (FOIL)
    Vectis Agents
    Quenchable Fire
    Controlled Instincts
    Corrupted Roots
    Viashino Slaughtermaster
    Island

    Silly pick. Slaughtermaster is the pick here.

    Pack 2 pick 4:
    Aven Trailblazer
    Toxic Iguanar
    Traumatic Visions
    Mana Cylix
    Beacon Behemoth
    Vectis Agents
    Molten Frame
    Rhox Bodyguard
    Scattershot Archer
    Vagrant Plowbeasts
    --> Sacellum Archers
    Island

    Love these guys.

    Pack 2 pick 5:
    Aven Trailblazer
    Kaleidostone
    Toxic Iguanar
    Faerie Mechanist
    --> Nacatl Outlander
    Grixis Illusionist
    Lapse of Certainty
    Cumber Stone
    Sludge Strider
    Unstable Frontier
    Island

    Over trailblazer - this was probably the wrong pick

    Pack 2 pick 6:
    Rhox Meditant
    --> Vedalken Outlander
    Constricting Tendrils
    Court Homunculus
    Molten Frame
    Infectious Horror
    Rhox Bodyguard
    Manaforce Mace
    Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer
    Mountain

    Meditant, although I probably wouldn't play him.

    Pack 2 pick 7:
    Worldly Counsel (FOIL)
    Constricting Tendrils
    Court Homunculus
    --> Molten Frame
    Infectious Horror
    Rhox Bodyguard
    Voices from the Void
    Spore Burst
    Island

    Bodyguard a bit expensive and I dont really want to be relying on exalted. Just wanna smash face with t1 nactals.

    Pack 2 pick 8:
    --> Aven Trailblazer
    Kaleidostone
    Nacatl Outlander
    Grixis Illusionist
    Lapse of Certainty
    Spore Burst
    Sigil of the Empty Throne
    Mountain

    Late, but Ill take it

    Pack 2 pick 9:
    --> Fiery Fall
    Goblin Outlander
    Constricting Tendrils
    Tukatongue Thallid
    Asha's Favor
    Rupture Spire
    Mountain

    Super late. People took Nactal hunt-pride and pestilent kathari over it.

    Pack 2 pick 10:
    Bone Saw
    Canyon Minotaur
    Tukatongue Thallid
    --> Lapse of Certainty
    Suicidal Charge
    Island

    Maybe sb? I haven't playe with this before. I figure if it goes in any deck, this is it.

    Pack 2 pick 11:
    Valiant Guard
    Reliquary Tower (FOIL)
    --> Controlled Instincts
    Corrupted Roots
    Island

    Pack 2 pick 12:
    --> Aven Trailblazer
    Vectis Agents
    Scattershot Archer
    Island

    Really happy to be getting playables this late

    Pack 2 pick 13:
    Toxic Iguanar
    --> Lapse of Certainty
    Island

    Pack 2 pick 14:
    --> Constricting Tendrils
    Mountain

    Pack 2 pick 15:
    --> Island

    ------ ARB ------

    Pack 3 pick 1:
    Cerodon Yearling
    Jhessian Zombies
    Grixis Grimblade
    Ethersworn Shieldmage
    Wildfield Borderpost
    Crystallization
    Violent Outburst
    Grixis Sojourners
    Ethercaste Knight
    Captured Sunlight
    Thopter Foundry
    --> Behemoth Sledge
    Etherwrought Page
    Necromancer's Covenant
    Forest

    Someone up there likes me.

    Pack 3 pick 2:
    Veinfire Borderpost
    Esper Stormblade
    Deny Reality
    Rhox Brute
    Fieldmist Borderpost
    Magefire Wings
    Sigil of the Nayan Gods
    Arsenal Thresher
    Offering to Asha
    Godtracker of Jund
    Ardent Plea
    Wall of Denial
    --> Dauntless Escort
    Forest

    Really likes me.

    Pack 3 pick 3:
    Mistvein Borderpost
    Glassdust Hulk
    --> Bant Sureblade
    Leonin Armorguard
    Jund Sojourners (FOIL)
    Breath of Malfegor
    Jund Sojourners
    Vedalken Ghoul
    Sigiled Behemoth
    Demonspine Whip
    Gloryscale Viashino
    Etherwrought Page
    Plains

    Bant blade is my blade of choice here. So many guys just cant block him. Viashino is a beast, but I like the blade here.

    Pack 3 pick 4:
    Architects of Will
    Terminate
    Cerodon Yearling
    Deny Reality
    Glassdust Hulk
    Magefire Wings
    Kathari Bomber
    Vedalken Ghoul
    --> Violent Outburst
    Ardent Plea
    Morbid Bloom
    Mountain

    Another odd pick to make. Outburst ends up making the deck, but I considered hating the terminate (or splashing), or just taking the yearling, although they usually table.

    Pack 3 pick 5:
    Architects of Will
    --> Cerodon Yearling
    Magefire Wings
    Trace of Abundance
    Kathari Bomber
    Vedalken Ghoul
    Violent Outburst
    Shield of the Righteous
    Drastic Revelation
    Morbid Bloom
    Plains

    Oh well.

    Pack 3 pick 6:
    Flurry of Wings
    Forest
    Naya Sojourners (FOIL)
    Vectis Dominator
    Jund Sojourners
    Double Negative
    Jund Hackblade
    Winged Coatl
    Esper Stormblade
    --> Colossal Might

    Fantastic. Was really hoping to pick up one of these. Probably the finisher of choice.

    Pack 3 pick 7:
    Jund Hackblade
    Winged Coatl
    Naya Hushblade
    Vectis Dominator
    --> Firewild Borderpost
    Jund Sojourners
    Dragon Appeasement
    Illusory Demon
    Mountain

    Got plenty of 2drops and NO fixing. so I need this I think. also trying to limit my red 2drops.

    Pack 3 pick 9:
    --> Cerodon Yearling
    Ethersworn Shieldmage
    Grixis Sojourners
    Ethercaste Knight
    Captured Sunlight
    Etherwrought Page
    Forest

    Captuded sunlight maybe?

    Pack 3 pick 10:
    --> Fieldmist Borderpost
    Magefire Wings
    Arsenal Thresher
    Offering to Asha
    Godtracker of Jund
    Forest

    Eh, nothing else of value to me. Didn't end up playing it.

    Pack 3 pick 11:
    Vedalken Ghoul
    Sigiled Behemoth
    --> Gloryscale Viashino
    Etherwrought Page
    Plains

    Well he tabled. Yoink. Feeling really confident that i'm in the right colours here.

    Pack 3 pick 12:
    Architects of Will
    --> Magefire Wings
    Vedalken Ghoul
    Mountain

    Pack 3 pick 13:
    --> Magefire Wings
    Drastic Revelation
    Plains

    Pack 3 pick 14:
    Forest
    --> Vectis Dominator

    Pack 3 pick 15:
    --> Mountain

    Games are in progress, be back with an update later.

    I would have actually gone P1P1 Tower Garg here. Maybe i'm biased, but I've been blown out by him so many times, I realize he commits you pretty hard, but it would seem you can pick up a pretty nice esper deck, especially seeing as conflux offers you 2x strix, esperzoa and a late kaleidostone.

    Phew...

    I just contacted all the other players that I need to play against. This is one of the few times I'm glad I'm unemployed, it makes setting up times to play much easier.

    Oh yeah, hows that going?
