I got a similar e-mail, so like 5 minutes ago I posted the arts/names/artists in the mill. Didn't mean to steal your thunder or anything.

Also, to me, they look more like 2-color than 4-color.

Got a promotional e-mail from one of my local tourney organizers, asking people to preorder boxes of ARB, and they had images of 5 cards which will be made into playmats.

    Mistvein Borderpost by Pete Venters

    Fieldmist Borderpost by Michael Bruinsma

    Wildfield Borderpost by
    Zoltan Boros & Gabor Szikszai

Firewild Borderpost by Jean Sebastien Rossbach

And finally Veinfire Borderpost by Ralph Horsley

Looks like some sort of dual color artifact cycle, possibly manafixing.

Avatars are interesting, but why can't you change the colors on any of the clothes pieces? It's so frustrating.

But it did seem like you could skip them... I pressed the guide button while on the avatar screen, and it seemed like it would let me play the disc in my drive.

But in other news, does anyone know where the auto-download of XBLA demos option went? I can't find the silly thing.

Edit: The big improvement, the games list (XBLA and demos) loads SOOOOOO much faster than it did before. That alone is worth the change, as I regularly keep about 100 or so XBLA demos on my system, because I never get around to deleting them after they auto-download.

what game is this? post a link for me if u can, or pm it to me.

I have a wii, and that sounds interesting.

on the note of charging money for xtra characters....

why not just charge $1? jeepers, at least music is $1 when u buy a single track. unless the characters are some sort of super secret tech that is worth the money.

Wiki link, because that's about all I can get from work: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatsunoko_vs._Capcom:_Cross_Generation_of_Heroes

Probably doesn't use the SFIV engine, I recall from the screens/video I've seen that it's sprite based.

And money for extra characters in MvC2 doesn't sound all bad, as long as the base product comes with AT LEAST all of the characters available in the arcade version/previous home versions with everything unlocked. If you have to unlock them again, that's ok, but I shouldn't have to pay for a character that came with the game before. On the other hand, if they want to add brand new characters, if they are compelling, and if you can play against people using them without having to buy them yourself, then I can see it being a reasonable feature. But $1.99 for a single character is probably a little too much, when you consider the base game has what, 60 characters including unlocks, and if it is a downloadable game, should not cost more than $20. I'm being a bit generous because of the licensing hassles.

I personally like the single player more than the multiplayer on games like this, I have trouble keeping up with real people... If they aren't releasing all three games at the same time, then it's not like it's a big deal really. Eh, you know what, I'm not getting a new PC in time anyway, I'll probably wait for the eventual battle chest release.

  • posted a message on [MPR] New DCI cards?
Got one of these as well. Interesting that it had my original 6-digit number, as opposed to the new 10 digit flavor, which never got on one of my printed cards. They did put the 8 digit version on a few of them though. I too have memorized it, even as it grows and mutates.

Gather Specimens also gets Sarkhan Vol tokens (so cruel), Suspended creatures, And so on. It doesn't effectively get any "search your library" creatures, as at that point you just fail to find it, but you might be able to trick someone at a prerelease with that one. The one thing I am concerned about is what it does with Phage. I can't read the FAQ from work, does it say what happens if you try to steal Phage with Gather Specimens?

What do you mean "American version"? The dubbed version of the original show has already shown all the way through on Adult Swim, and the first live-action movie has already been dubbed and shown, and the second was already planned. Are they doing an American reimagining of the story? If so... why?

Oh, calm down, people. You don't even know what's in the set, or what the specifics of this format are going to be yet. For all you know, some of the best cards in the set could be colorless.

True, we don't know much... but looking at the partial spoiler thus far (13 cards aside from basic lands as of this post), And there are 5 mono-colored spells, 2 of them having off colored activations, 4 Two-colored spells, and 4 Three-colored spells. At least there isn't a three-colored common yet, but the more gold cards this set has, the more these deck rules just get in the way.

I don't hate this just because it's "different"... it's because it's "limiting". They are taking away options in deck construction. Now I can't play W/U and splash Red removal. I can't play G/U and splash Red or Black removal. It also means that I can't sideboard in a different color to throw off my opponent/find a better matchup.

Of course, how important these things are to me depends on the quality of common mana-fixing, and if you are encouraging three color decks, there has to be good common mana-fixing available. But in a smaller set, you can't exactly put as many fixers as say... Ravnica block. What does it mean though if we get a cycle like...

    Bant Signet - 2 mana
    Artifact
:2mana:, tap symbol : Add GWU to your mana pool.

If you print cards like that, then they're only able to reach their maximum potential in one out of five decks. In any other block, a card like that would be used to help splash off color spells, but now it doesn't work quite so well, unless there is a temendous multi-color component in this set, as here, you're stuck with a lot of basically colorless mana for little to no real fixing ability.

Yeah, but if you were a red or black mage, do you really think you'd take such advice seriously? Wink

Anyway, I'm not terribly happy about the way flavor is being forced into the game more than it really should be. But I guess that's why there's an extra booster, even on the small set, because it might be a little tricky to fill out a deck using only shard colors. But after the last few sets where splashing one or two off color removal spells, even splashing the 5th color was little to no problem at all, it'll be a little weird to see that not possible any more.

But more seriously on the subject, I love achievements because they give games more replay value, and give you incentive to do things you might not normally try in games. I don't feel the need to compare my score with other people though, or to "race to 10k" or something, as that's more of a measure of how many games you buy/how much time you spend playing. But hearing the blip and seeing the text just gives you a little "hey neat" sense of accomplishment.

Yeah, I had a total nerdgasm when I read about this last night. Only problem in my mind is that America is totally not going to get the special edition DS with the Chrono Trigger art on it, that you just KNOW Japan will get.
