Majority of the decks that you bought have very clear themes and strategies. The elf deck and the graveyard deck are very strong. The wizard deck also has a great feel to it out of the box. The other 3 color decks in the anthology are good, but suffer from poor focus on the strategy. The black green graveyard deck can keep up with competitive decks.
Iconic was the wrong name for the set, since it's a word that is subjective to every person who has ever played the game. With the data showing that the product neglects half of magic's history, it is a bit disheartening. At least Time Spiral is fairly well represented, giving callbacks to older cards.
I felt Vraska's last line was appropriate, due to how the past story with her and Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest established her as more personable and friendly than when we first met her. Jace is also the guildpact of Ravnica, so having an important political figure with no memory would definitely cause some shock.
I always preferred obliterate because it is uncounterable.
I love the art between mirrodin and the original innistrad blocks. The current art is so devoid of any style, the CG really sucks, and the characters are way too smug.
Have you considered Crimson Honor Guard, Disrupt Decorum and Curse of Opulence from the new Commander set? Crimson Honor Guard can punish slower decks, and Disrupt Decorum can clear the path for a Neheb-led Alpha Strike. Curse of Opulence just nets you extra mana, helping your x spells.
In Amonkhet, why was their a hotel for the Gatewatch to stay in? In a world with only 1 known city, there would be no need hotels, as all the citizens have houses and continuously prepare for the trials their entire lives. Worse of all, the Jacetice league decides its OK to stay in it, even though they knew Bolas has a massive presence on the world.
The reason these podcasts exist is because the creative team simply does not have enough time and energy to keep up with a constant demand of great stories. That's not them being lazy or slacking off, that's just the reality of the situation.
I wouldn't use the term great to describe the stories that have come out since Battle for Zendikar.
