"If Wizards is willing to allow degenerate things that already exist then they should print more degenerate things into the format to somehow fix that", is how I read your comment. Please, a big, resounding no to Mystical Tutor. How busted would Storm get?

Yixlid lacks the surprise element of Macabre, which is a big deal in my book.

I see now the effect of Daze in GDS. I personally, don't own a GDS deck but have seen and played against it several times already.

Just wondering what they would replace in their deck to fit four Daze in? The deck looks like it does not have many parts that can be switched for other things.

A Bauble, a Looting, an Inquisition, a Stub.. plenty of cards that can come out at 1 copy each without undermining the core of the deck.

The Shadow decks both reward and punish making a lot of correct micro-decisions that often revolve around managing your mana and life total. It's entirely possible to lose a game based entirely on having fetched the wrong land on turn 1/2, to say nothing of the balancing act that closing games out often ends up being. Because GDS plays so many cantrips, a lot of the time you have to make decisions about your mana and life total based on future possibilities and what you might draw, instead of working with all known information. Comparatively, and for BG specifically, you have far less micro-decisions to make, while still getting to enjoy some of the general gameplay of discard -> big idiot beater. This comes at the cost of the sheer aggression that Shadow can sometimes put out, and less cantrips means you're more dependent on the top of your deck and general deckbuilding to give you what you need.

As a long time Shadow player I have also occasionally switched to BG when I felt like I just needed a break from the micro-management.

I agree wholeheartedly, you can't autopilot through Shadow whatsoever. Not saying the BGx archetype is exactly flowchart Magic like Scapeshift or Tron but the deck somewhat plays itself at a basic level.

    After all, when in doubt...

Personal bias; don't want to see Baleful Strix or Swords to plowshares, because those cards would both destroy GDS.
DS exists in Legacy though with these cards legal Smile

Yeah, and with Daze and FOW legal also. Let's not nitpick here.

You want to trim removal on the play and discard on the draw. Dredge is a fairly straightforward race, just watch out for the Conflagrate blowouts.

I don't think I'd run blue just for Stubs in the 75 but Delay is simply a marvelous card and I strongly implore anyone running blue to at least give it a shot. It hits everything.

Sorry but Snapcaster with one blue source just looks like bad deck building to me. Snap Stub is a crucial play in GDS and you have no way to replicate it. I really don't think Snapcaster is a card we want, it's just way too slow.

Nah no Rampager for me, no room unless i cut my singleton Lili. It's dead too often in my estimation.

I'm pretty happy with Modern, probably cause i havent been to a GP in a while. FNMs are generally fun where i play - lots of variety, fringe decks, etc.

Played a 16-person tournament yesterday, no Dredge, no Phoenix, no GDS, one Burn. We had Infect, U Tron, Scapeshift, old school Affinity with blue, The Rack.. I enjoy the format but I'm aware that I'm in a bubble of sorts. I probably wouldn't be so chuffed if I had to face seven Phoenix decks in a row at a PPTQ or GP. Oh well.

Beating UW 2-0 is no joke, congratulations. Thats the only match i dropped at my last 2 FNMs, finishing in 1st and 2nd place respectively with a 4c list. I'm very happy with blue right now and Flayer has carried me to victory so often it's almost unreasonable.

Sticking with 2 Flayer, 2 Tarfire, 3 Stub and 2 Delay for the weeks ahead. This deck still has serious legs as far as I'm concerned. I went back to GDS for a minute and ran into the exact same issues and frustrations i always did. I just don't see the point.

    GDS

    (...)

All are powered on the back of Looting. (...) All would take a massive hit just by removing looting.

What a pile of nonsense, Looting is ok at best in GDS and when it reigned supreme, nobody even played a single copy.

Do you think Crystal Vein would be safe? Or would it push Eldrazi too hard in combination with Eldrazi Temple and Simian Spirit Guide?

Anything that gives you free mana is not safe.

(...)and that Legacy is even deader than it is today?

SCG Open Syracuse last week had 656 players. How is that a dead format?

I have all this desire to play Lili's and goyfs but why waste 1000+ dollars on an archtype that's MEH.

So you can play Traverse Shadow and beat up all those degenerate decks currently in the format, then when BGx and UWx come back you can transition back into the former and have fun the old-fashioned way?
