I have a mono-brown stasis deck that I'm slowly doing this to as well. I think it brings alot of character to the deck. Plus the artifact lands look awesome in brown
Trading is a bit odd to me sometimes. There are some people that trade solely on "trade credit". But I've never really trade like that. I have a collection that spans 15ish years and alot of guys have only played since the last expansion or two so alot of times they really don't have anything of value compared to what they see in my binders.
But if im not using it I see no reason why someone shouldn't get some enjoyment out of the cards just because they don't have enough trade credit. I've made quite a few lopsided trades to guys just to give them something they wanted and I wasn't using.
4 enlightened tutors for 4 tome scours
4 jace tms for 4 unwinding clocks
etc
But because I trade them so well if I am looking for anything its amazing how quickly these guys will go out of their way to try to find it for me. I couldn't find shelldock isle anywhere and one of the guys I gave some emrakuls to actually went to a ptq and traded for them for me and another one gave me a tolarian acedemy to finish my play set and a winter and spring factory for some type 2 stuff that waent worth much.
So basically if you trade good usually you will be traded good in return. It might not be soon but most people remember when you do them a solid and you will be surprised when they can help you out in return.
So the ones that try to screw people tend to eventually be found out and aren't traded with anymore
It seems simple but for some reason i dont see it being correct.
I was watching a game the other day and saw a gut tap some one elses creatures for a "Nul attack phase". Note none of the creatures had a tap effect to do anything, he just declared an attack phase and then stated the creatures did no damage...:confused2:
Is this even possible?
Also this happened under the influence of a mindslaver, just to give a bit of back ground info.
Funny thing is i played a mono red deck at Richmond this month and did really well. I didnt get to play in the tourney itself ((unfortunatly 14 hour drive is longer than the 11 it should have taken)) but i was fortunate enough to play quite a few guys that were bored between matches. Red burn does remarkable well. I would not have made top 16 i dont think, but its a very viable way to run.
Proper use of Null Rod and key disruption cards is the key. Red burn cant go for 3rd turn kill in type one. Its got to be 5th or 6th. REB, Pyroblast, Null rod, Strip mine, Wasteland, these were the disruption cards i used to stop alot of the Decks.
Also ((and i know its not technically red)) but leyline of the Void crushes combo. If you can first turn the Layline then most hard combo decks will scoop.
The biggest problem i faced was the Chalice for 1... that hurt. But i actually pack enough "suboptimal" spells for 2CC that i can generally play around it. Plus i do use Blistering Fire Cat and Ball Lightning, i shouldnt but they are my babies and i love them
Burn wont be a top teir deck unless wizards give us a bit of love, but its not really a completely useless deck either.
Thats pretty much balls R_E. Sorry to hear its going down like this. Its been a long time since i studied copy right law but i still dont get why their doing this.
Section 504: Remedies for infringement: Damages and profits sub parts "c" {2}
In a case where the copyright owner sustains the burden of proving, and the court finds, that infringement was committed willfully, the court in its discretion may increase the award of statutory damages to a sum of not more than $150,000. In a case where the infringer sustains the burden of proving, and the court finds, that such infringer was not aware and had no reason to believe that his or her acts constituted an infringement of copyright, the court in its discretion may reduce the award of statutory damages to a sum of not less than $200. The court shall remit statutory damages in any case where an infringer believed and had reasonable grounds for believing that his or her use of the copyrighted work was a fair use under section 107, if the infringer was: (i) an employee or agent of a nonprofit educational institution, library, or archives acting within the scope of his or her employment who, or such institution, library, or archives itself, which infringed by reproducing the work in copies or phonorecords; or (ii) a public broadcasting entity which or a person who, as a regular part of the nonprofit activities of a public broadcasting entity (as defined in subsection (g) of section 118) infringed by performing a published nondramatic literary work or by reproducing a transmission program embodying a performance of such a work.
I would think your only looking to prove that your working under defination (ii) as a not for profit broadcasting entity. And that you didnt know you were doing anything, as you have said, no one from Wizards has even spoken to you about this situation.
And lets face it when it all comes down to it, we're talking about little pieces of cardboard with pictures on it. More than likely you can get the judge to simply laugh it out of court. Most people in the real world still dont take things like this seriously. If the owners of Diamond Comics can have a monopoly strangle hold on the comic industry ((marvel and DC)) than its still not taken very seriously in the other formats either.
But like i said its been along time since i've studied copy right law, and that was only in college for a while.
It was one of the first magic cards i actively searched for. Its not horribly powerful but it makes for some very intresting deck builds. Its just always been one of my favorite cards.
I doubt this law will caus any "extra" violence in everyday life for most people... but by the gods its creepy that anyone could think its a good idea.
But i can see the racist nutters enjoying it.
Racist nutter
"I shot him cause he was threatening my life"
Police
"But sir the list 5 people you shot were ((insert random racial group))"
Racist nutter
"Yeah, isnt it great that this law exists and i can feel safe"
Then just put in 20 lands that can make B/U and call it a deck.
Either that or run it almost totally blue and only really have black mana for the glimpse and use Traumatize for kill acceleration.
Over two turns a Traumatize and a twined Glimpse should pretty much spell the end of any deck not protected from mill...and thats what the Jesters Caps would be for in that situation
I'm not certain of how far away you are, but GP Charlotte (coming in December) will be taking place in that area. That may be a possibility for you if you are truly interested in becoming a judge. Afterall, if there are no judges that are local to you, why not become the first certified judge in that area?
Yeah Charolette is many many hours from me ((like 12+))
I'm trying to become one, but i thought you had to train with a level 3 to even become a level 1. I'm having a problem finding one that i can reasonably get to. I work offshore in the oil industry so about half of my life i'm in the middle of the ocean and i'm having trouble getting to any major event sometimes. I mostly want to do it so i can help out the players around here with more local events and maybe even hold a DCI tourny or two a year. Nothing major but something that will spark more of an intrest again. Just the little store i used to own ((and still frequent)) has 35+ players at any given time and we are pretty much stuck with store sponsered things. I want to give a more professional feel as a few of us want to move out to more competitive play and try to start going to WotC events.
That said, if you're going for control, Traumatize might indeed be an interesting option, although perhaps only in sideboard...
True but Second rite is very sitiuational(sp) Its a great spell for 4 if you can make sure they have 10 life and its an auto kill but still hard to get off.
I would probably use the card sideboard like you said though with Cunning wish for fetch.
I think with ravnica coming out i will finally get to make my "All your library are belong to me" deck now. I've been playing with it for a year or more now but with out major combo or luck its never really looked right. But with all the mill goodness of Dimir I seem to have found most of the answers that i was missing ((loves wizards in a very bad way:evillol: ))
And with the spot removal of power pieces with things like jesters can and the pinging from mill stone and the like its just a very nice play. I'm not sure how well it will do competitively, but I'm going to find out in a few weeks when I get a case and put the deck together.:)

The way i ran my Egg Beater deck was to ditch all but 4 bayous and use everyother mana source i can think of to solve that problem.
Elvish spirit Guide
Lotus Petal
5 Moxen
Black Lotus
Crypt
Even with that and the odd amount of FTK's that the deck can pull its just to prone to fizzle

:: sniffles :: holds a special place in my heart
Other than that the combo works and is very simple in its execution. Kinda like breaking Eye of the storm with Dark Rit and Demonic Tutor:-)

yay progressive law making
Force of Will / Counterspell / Mana Leak
Hymn to Turoch / Diabolic Edict
Using Twincast and Glimpse with a Millstone and Jesters cap for annoyance factor and combo control.
Using the rest of the open slots for mana acceleration like Lotus Petal and Mox Diamond
