  • posted a message on Why is our community moving to two sites? What's the benefit?
Most of my interactions with staff have been neutral to positive, though I do take issue with the way infractions are handed out sometimes. Having said that, they work really hard at improving this community and thus the MtG community as a whole. If they're going to leave en masse, I have hard time believing that the void will be filled by people who are even half as dedicated. I won't abandon Sally immediately, but if things shake out like I think they will, Nexus will be my new MtG home.

What about the wording on that +1? Distribute? Is that the typical wording or is it a new template?

Solid Commons, not much else to say except the fact that I'm glad it's not Grakk again.

Thank you! I came to say the same thing. The only time I want to see that art again is if we get a legendary Grakk card to go with it. And they have to call it Grakk, Unpacified.

As for Bone Splinters, well...weird bird man is still weird.

I get that they're going for a definite theme with the art on these, but the old one was so good!

So your evidence is that you've seen stuff? I'm not even saying that you're wrong, but you're not citing data. It's just...your anecdotes.

And calling the set Time Spiral 2 is wholly accurate since it has over 40 named mechanics and a smattering of callbacks. That was also what it was called during development at WotC. As for calling it Commander Horizons, Sisay, Moraphon, and a bunch of slivers would agree.

  • posted a message on Reliquary Tower
Like I said in the OP, Reliquary Tower isn't as prevalent in my decks as it once was, but there are plenty of arguments in its favor.

    1. Cyclonic Rift is the most played card in the format. Or second to maybe Sol Ring.
    2. Re: Ancient Tomb. Tomb is better, and has come down in price, but it's still 1000% more expensive than the Tower.
    3. Don't most of you design your decks to draw cards? Wouldn't you like to keep them?
    4. For those of you who would argue that the graveyard is a second hand, do your metas not run graveyard hate? I have one graveyard deck that is forced to run Orbs of Warding and Witchbane Orb just to protect my yard.

It bears repeating that I'm still not arguing for Tower as an auto-include, and there have been plenty of sound arguments against it in this thread, but I don't think I'd ever call it wrong unless it actively hurt a deck's game plan.

  • posted a message on MTGSalvation not closing. Staff still moving to MTGNexus.
Something just occurred to me. Did Magic Find or Curse bother to check out Salvation before buying or selling, respectively? The 'The End of an Era' article is featured prominently, and there are numerous active threads discussing Salvation's closure and the subsequent migration to what we now know as MTG Nexus. What I'm really wondering is if Magic Find knew they were buying a car with no engine.

So, according to this article on Salvation's marquis, the site was sold to a company called Magic Find, and will not be closing down. First to comment was Wildfire393, saying that they're still moving forward with the new site, dubbed MTGNexus.

This whole thing seems a lot more complicated now. Personally, I'm grateful for the staff's effort to save this community by investing the time to create and perfect MTGNexus, but...is it necessary now? I know this announcement is only hours old, but...what's going to happen? Is the entire staff still behind the new site? Do any community members have an idea as to what they're going to do?

    Thoughts?

  • posted a message on Reliquary Tower
I do have one deck in which Reliquary Tower is part of the plan: Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma. The deck just wants to ramp and pummel opponents with creatures. Accordingly, it's easy to overextend into wraths or run out of gas. The tower helps me deploy a steady stream of threats after drawing off of something like Rishkar's Expertise. I also can't count the times its mitigated the loss from an opposing Cyclonic Rift.

In recent months I've had several conversations, both real and digital, about Reliquary Tower's place in the format. When I got back into Magic in 2011 (circa New Phyrexia and M12), I was immediately taken with EDH and commenced building multiple decks. Upon discovering Reliquary Tower, it went into every single one. I encountered a lot of players that felt similarly, who also windmill slammed it into every possible deck. Then came Innistrad block, which gave us a utility land for every color pair. That gravy train is still rolling today with stuff like Karn's Bastion and Blast Zone.

As years went by, the Tower got cut from a lot of my three-colored decks. Merieke Ri Berit, for instance, couldn't ignore Detection Tower or Arcane Lighthouse. Other decks had similar situations. The ole tower was supplanted by new utility lands that better fit the decks. It still finds a place in most of my mono- or two-colored decks, because it't still a highly desirable effect stapled onto a mana-generating land. In fact, the only time it doesn't make it into a 1-2 colored deck is if it goes against the game plan, like reanimator.

Anyway, I just wanted to see what others thought of Reliquary Tower, if it was ever an auto include in years past, or if your opinion on it has changed.

I hope the series takes the time to develop the characters in a way that isn't rushed. I hope they have good dialog, and not the kind of awkward expository crap that passes for flavor text lately. I hope they have callbacks to cards that are done cleverly, and not shoehorned in for cheap fan service. I hope it's not anime, which frankly is tired and trite at this point.

tl;dr: I've got a lot of hopes. Fingers crossed.

I wouldn't give a damn about this if it weren't for the involvement of the Russo brothers.

Mostly unrelated to moderation, but the biggest annoyance I've had with the forums personally is the primer system. The requirements for non-content related stuff like formatting is honestly ridiculous. It took me nearly as long to format my Phelddagrif primer than it did to write the thing, and it's like 70 pages long or something insane like that. Having pretty formatting is nice and all, and primers should strive to be readable, but especially for commanders that don't already have primers, I think discouraging people from creating a primer because they'll have to spend hours inserting pictures and tinkering with fonts is a big net negative for the forum. There are many many commanders with no primers that could certainly use one, if only it was easier for people to do.

Oh, and then also those horrible mobile ads. I swear sometimes it redirects me five times before it'll let me get where I wanted to go. I assume that particular bugaboo won't follow the forums to wherever they go next, but GRRRRRR I hope whoever created them dies in agony. Or at least, like, never finds a fulfilling career.

I second this whole post, but mainly the primer part. I tried to do one once, but the formatting was cumbersome and frustrating so I just gave up.
