I understand why pyro feels bad and people want to cut him. I was really dissatisfied with him for a long time and even cut him at one point, but I can definitely say cutting pyro is a mistake. He feels bad when you play badly. Someone was saying they like him for early pressure and that's not at all what he is meant for most of the time. Sure you can run him out turn two if you know your opponent can't do anything, but he is 3-4 drop against most decks. I hold onto him as long as possible. Let your opponent burn their removal on delvers and tasigurs. Your other threats are just low costed fatties for the most part. They do a good job of beating down but are pretty easily clumped, terminated or otherwise dealt with and they leave you with no value once they're gone. Unlike them, Young Pyromancer is a card that absolutely will win you the game if he hangs out for a turn or two. To that end I also really recommend the maindeck dispel. It helps with pyro and everything else our deck is trying to do.
Think of it a bit like grixis twin for those who used to play it. You would bait out removal and answers with your cliques and tasigurs then land the combo to finish them. Young pyromancer isn't win on the spot good but he isn't far off.

Wtfwhousesbbeony540 posted a message on Grixis DelverI won a GPT yesterday. So I'll be going into GP Vancouver with two buys which is great since you can face some real shenanigans in the first few rounds of GPs and I feel like delver struggles against some of the more out there strategies in Modern.Posted in: Modern Archives - Established
I played against cheerios, breach Titan, Naya value dudes, uw control, jeskai control and bant eldrazi. I lost 0-2 to breach Titan but beat the rest.
I was really surprised to win my bant matchup 2-0 since I usually don't feel great against them.
MVP of the day by far was maindeck dispel. Pretty much every game one that I won was thanks to dispel buying me several turns of beating down while they dug for another removal spell or snapcasters. I can't imagine taking that dispel out going forward. It's so rarely dead and in a protect the queen deck like ours it seems like a no brainer. I may even bring my sideboard dispel in and just run two in the main.
It was a real confidence booster for me. I've been running delver online in comp leagues to very middling results, but this confirms my suspicion that I play like ***** online and focus much better in person. -

- Jund (8.9%)
- Abzan Company (7.6%)
- Grixis Delver (6.3%)
- Titan Valakut (5.1%)
- Gx Tron (5.1%)
- Elves (5.1%)
- Ad Nauseam (2.5%)
- W/R Prison (2.5%)
- 8-Rack (2.5%)
- Abzan (2.5%)
Here are the decks with 1 finish so far:
UGx Scapeshift
Skred Red
Sultai Delver
Grishoalbrand
Amulet Titan
Bant Company
Lantern Control
Infect
Abzan Evolution
Living End
Soul Sisters
U/R Gifts Storm
Jeskai Control
Goryo's Vengeance
Jeskai Midrange
Naya Landfall (kinda Naya Zoo-esque)
B/R Pack Rat
Merfolk
Need more data to draw conclusions but I will say that Ux reactive decks look very bad right now. Of the 13 decktypes with 2+ finishes, there's only one Ux reactive representative (Grixis Delver). That said, Grixis Delver currently seems far better than many have classified it. More data needed! -

The list ran hot, losing twice to variance, once to exhaustion and once to good old infect being more efficient than I was. I'll type out a full report later, but summarize my takeaways since there seems to be a bunch of splinter threads right now and little cohesion.
The switch away from Pyro was correct. He would have helped me in some matches that are already good, but with so much Push in the room Gurmag was a house all day, scoffing at Decay and push while trumping everything on the board.
Four Snare's pretty much sows up burn, which I beat 2-0 twice and went late two games. We win here on efficiency, much like against infect, and having some kind of clock while telling them no either with removal or counters. Overturf was correct, hurting yourself a lot is better than playing scared and not casting your spells (better to shock to snare a boros charm than just take it).
While the midrange version seemed to have plenty of play and late game power against the field, playing cryptic seems far too clunky, as most games were decided by jockeying in the first three turns. Better to snare, leak then snap-leak than Get triple blue and have a spell which is uncastable most of the time.
My "variance" losses came from either drawing too many lands (against affinity game three after stabilizing the board, I drew six lands in a row, and a single Kommand would just win the game), or getting stuck on too few (against Infect I was unable to fimd a third land, and therefore couldn't cast two removal at his eot to kill his guy through protection and therefore died from lack of interaction)
The exhaustion loss was round 9 when I couldn't remember my scouting, but the bushwacker zoo guy did. Needless to say, mana leak was really bad on the draw with no bolt/push. This matchup actually seemed favorable assuming you have a more normal hand.
Six 2-drop counters was strong all night, minus riund nine. The remands kept lands flowing, delayed haymakers so I had time to answer them, pushed the aggressive clock when I was ahead, and played havock with AV and flashback spells. Also, Remand made leak better late, when opponentz were forced to play their thing to try and answer my clock.
My mix of removal was solid, having enough terminates to amswer "everything" while also plenty of one drops to answer aggression on the draw without being too painful.
The board was spectacular, easily transitioning me into my role for the right matchup, powering through control killing them in turns, or staying efficient enough to keep pace with fast decks until we land a threat and win.
Finally, overall I will be sticking to this list, because no matter what situation or deck I never felt like I was down and out even if I lost game one. Except when I flooded against affinity. Even against bushwacker if I had found EE I would have stabilized healthy and won with Tas. Feel free to ask specific questions, but I think this list is balanced against the Tier 1 meta, and well suited to fight on whatever axis the match calls for. Although specific meta tuning is always a thing.
Full tournament report later. -

Just play a Blood Moon deck and when they get salty demand that they play a strategy that doesn't fold to Blood Moon.
Then, after a few weeks of this and important lessons learned, go back to playing Grixis. -

user-14332805 posted a message on Grixis DelverSo, with the data from my matches on MTGO I did this:Posted in: Modern Archives - Established
The data is based on 12 modern competitive leagues and 4 matches with a friend. It's not all based on the same list, but the differences are almost minimal, with the biggest difference when I swapped 2 terminate for 2 Fatal Push. Seems like my preboard winrate is not very good so probably my maindeck configuration needs to be changed, but on the other hand my SB choices seems to yield good results.
There are some interesting results like the 100% WR against EldraziTron in 6 matches, and also against Naya Burn in 3 matches. Also The thing is, there's a lot of different decks so it's difficult to see interesting patterns. Maybe one these days I could group by archetypes.

Since my background is in Twin, Remand has been my best friend for a long time. I love the card, I love the tempo advantage, and I have a really hard time giving it up, especially with all the weaknesses that Leak has in the late game. Plus, having foil original Ravnica copies doesn't help me wanting to cut it either.Quote from Sonnenrad »Nice results. I'm starting to like Remand in this deck. I've played a few games this past week where it was badass, especially with Remand - Snap Remand.
Yeah I saw, you had a very beautiful deck! Especially jealous of the foil Ravnica remands.
I take it that the main reason you're on Grixis Delver now is because now it's the only deck in the format that allows you to even play Tarns/Snaps/Remands?
Thank you! Keeping an eye out on eBay or tcg player means you can nab good deals on LP and MP copies from time to time. To be honest, many people are very harsh on their grading and I have seen some "MP" cards that look almost as good as some listed as "NM." eBay is great because many sellers include actual pictures of cards so I can judge quality from there, so you can often get away with cheaper prices on generous wear grading.
More or less a good explanation why I play Delver. I have definitely grown to enjoy it this past year, but I very much miss the instant speed flash game I used to play. But 1 mana threats mean I can still leave up mana for other things, which is cool. While I seem to constantly argue for Delver to be an aggro deck, I like that it can play multiple roles at different stages in a game and in different matchups. It's a fun and versitile deck that I very much enjoy, I just wish it was a little more robust and had the tools to be solidly in Tier 1.
My trip down the foil rabbit hole began with full art Lightning Bolts because I convinced myself I'd probably never play a deck that doesn't have 4 bolts. Slowly built up foils for Grixis Twin (Yep.... ), then lucked into a good deal on foil Delvers. I love snap-bolt, and I firmly believe Grixis Delver is the best snap-bolt deck (and very fun), so I spent the past year picking up foil pieces here and there along the way. -

Risk sending the wrong message? Even though, y'know, ? As if that doesn't send a wrong message? LOL
Why act as if females are some sort of protected species when there are multiple cards depicting women killing men. It doesn't make sense.
Haven't you gotten the message through your skull yet? Women are a protected class and the thought of even harming one makes you a misogynistic pig worthy of 10 years in Guantanamo Bay.

How is the card Triumph of Ferocity an issue when there's a counterpart card for it - Triumph of Cruelty ? Also, the number of males killed in war is waaaaay higher than the number of females killed in battle. So let's try and reverse this trend.
So you're arguing that since men seem to have more "power", it's okay to portray them as evil and also for them to be killed en masse? Solely because they have "power"? Also, since men are also usually depicted as angels, they should also be "unburdened by the weight of perception of that long tradition", ergo it shouldn't matter to have male angels. Funny that you call it inclusiveness and empowerment when it benefits women and allows women to kill men with impunity.
Or wait - I get it - men dying in battle and being disposable is a "long tradition" so we shouldn't care.
Yes, it would be quite unfortunate if WotC stopped producing art like Ash Zealot killing a man because that would remove the agency of women.
If they are printing "haymaker" Angels with the exception of original Avacyn, I'd rather play Plummet 99% of the time because at least I can target.

Fall of the Titans is really good as is the Oath of Chandra, but so far all of the Oaths have been solid.
Reality Smasher looks like a neat anti-control card.
And looks like the Titans are dead.
And the flavor text continues to be jaw-droppingly awful.
"dur yeah I'll keep watch XD"

I would easily play Oath of Nissa regardless of whether or not I had planeswalkers in my deck. However, I dislike this push towards making a Mythic-heavy deck a potentially top tier deck. You're right, stuporfriends normally aren't top tier but I'm definitely put off by this possibility.

By that logic, no day should really be a holiday unless it's a religious holiday-have fun working on Thanksgiving.
Memorial Day is an important holiday for a military family such as mine and definitely warrants taking a day off to get the whole family together. Although the funny thing is that I doubt that you "honor those who fought and died" on a daily basis, thus making this holiday actually important. I'm glad that WotC recognizes this as well.

LOL LOOK AT ME :DDD I LIEK A KIDS SHOW ABOUT CARTOON PONIEZ XDDDDD
But seriously, I'm hoping for a mass combat block. Preferably with some powerful spells. In all honesty I expect the block to "feel" more like a Greek epic than the actual Theros block, with powerful heroes and their hordes of loyal troops.
