    My manabase is as follows:

I run 2 Blood Moon in the sideboard, and drawing a basic Mountain is awful. I refer to The Fake Slim Shady's excellent post here. I've pretty much copied his decklist since it was the most streamlined, and mine is personal preference vs his, especially since a lot of the sideboard cards are heavy on the black costs.

    His manabase was as follows:

Only real change you'll notice is I switched out a Bluff for a Darkslick shores, as I think that 3 "Volcanic Island" and 1 "Underground Sea" is really great for our deck. We're so land light anyway that these lands almost always come into play untapped and I'm elated to have multiples in my opening hands.

    Hi Jwf239,

Thanks for your response. Like I said, I'm new to Modern so I'm not hugely up-to-date on all the interactions. Your points make a lot of sense, especially as I noted that Disrupting Shoal -could- be good but would warrant a redo of a lot of the deck. I've played a lot of Grixis Delver in Legacy so am familiar with how the deck runs.

Anyhow, much appreciated with the response. I'll stick with a stock list for a while and see how it runs, and then will tune it a bit more as I get used to the different intricacies. : )

There is probably a even more effective spell but you can turn 6 replay murder for free. Or as other players have said replay your counter spell. Either way you end up with a huge monster to block with or attack with next turn. It's very good for 6 mana.

Sure, if you're still alive. GR gets a creature that is effectively 4/3 with trample for GR, meanwhile we're playing 3 mana kill spells and 4 mana counterspells. Control is dead - congrats to the dev team! You did it! Smile

I'm shocked to see so many underwhelmed responses.

I don't play Standard anymore, but won't this card be absolutely bananas? It's an incredibly efficient body that you can flash in at instant speed and cast an instant for free! FOR FREE!! Card draw. Countermagic. Removal. You name it.

Yes, please name all of the playable instant speed card draw, countermagic, and removal in Constructed.

You clearly don't play Standard anymore. It's a bizarro world where creatures can be played as instants but underpowered draw spells and kill spells are Sorcery-speed only.

We try not to touch on the politicized nonsense here and moderators do their best to keep threads on topic and well away from those fun subjects, but world building panels get their Q&A time eaten up by people asking questions about social issues instead of design or story matters, and this was no exception. Most of the question time was spend on representation of race, ethnicity, body size, I kind of tuned out but maybe someone brought up autism spectrum? I'm far more interested in how the designers created a new environment with explicit constraints in mind like "Positive upbeat atmosphere to contrast with typical grimdark fantasy- ie no necromancy- but still keep black fully fleshed out yet not cartoony like lorwyn" or how the fabric of aetherworks is woven through the architecture and lifecycles of the ecosystem to the point the cities are almost living and breathing organisms- but instead we got to listen to whether wizards were misappropriating indian culture in a set about artificers.

Because race and culture have nothing to do with world building, right?

Sure it does. But nobody's complaining that Kaervak wasn't a trans-demi-otherkin on Jamuraa, were they? Mirage and Kamigawa remain two blocks where they did a good job of reflecting culture and mythology of the respective societies. Original Ravnica did a good job too.

The real issue is people trying to bring up stuff like "when are you going to do (insert less than 1% of the population) thing" and "you're culturally appropriating" when in reality Magic is a game and not real life.

They should start to get worried if the game goes downhill and not about narcissistic "it has to represent me" ideals.

How people see 1 as last digit is beyond me. It's clearly round and it even has a hole in the middle.

Also, note that the holofoil is obscured. Makes me think whoever did this couldn't really fake the holofoil and conveniently placed their camera over to cast a shadow.

Damn dude, you got some serious SKILLZZZ! When are you going to be applying for the CSI?

Baleful Strix was also Rare in Vintage Masters so this isn't much of a surprise.

Cute comic. I'd like to see more stuff like this.

I predict someone on this thread complaining that WOTC is being too "PC" by removing the comic. Sad.

Only thing sadder is that some people likely complained that it was insensitive to satisfy their offended requirements for the day. Rolleyes

Where'd you find enough straw for that man?
Just because you don't find something offensive doesn't mean that other people are faking it.

I live right near Houston. I have a lot of friends who live in Houston, and I visit them regularly. Never, at any point when I was reading this comic, was I offended. Other people may have been "offended"...I'd be curious to know exactly why. I suppose we'll never know.

Or hey, maybe people were offended by the idea of "unholy amalgams in the countryside"! And I can definitely say that madness (especially during rush hour) in Houston is something I've encountered so that could be it too. Smile

Right. But I dont see it anyone's list. Maybe one or two in the SB. Why not 4x main?

Ah okay I totally understand where you're coming from now. Fitzlock has a very good explanation for why they aren't in the main so I don't believe it needs repeating. Although yeah, there's always the caveat of local meta.
