For those of you complaining that Misthollow Griffin doesn't 'feel' Mythic: don't worry, Mark Rosewater agrees with you.

iamatimetravelerfrom2306ad asked: You said that R&D has a criterion for mythics — they must have "potential for awesomeness". But what about Misthollow Griffin? Sure, casting from exile is neat, but it can't do anything exciting beyond that. Even Archangel's Light can possibly give you an outrageous amount of life.

Mark: I’m not a fan of Misthollow Griffin on many levels. I personally agree that if we print him (let’s assume that fight is lost) I would have done it at rare for just the reasons you explained above.

The counter argument was that the getting it back from exile was such a cool thing that that is what gave it potential for awesomeness.

Without the likes of tragic slip, go for the throat etc, opponents would need to deal 10 damage in order to kill this angel....

Yeah, Gisela is bonkers. She is, for all intents and purposes, a 10/10 for 7 that doubles all other damage you deal and halves all damage your opponents deal. I love this card!

Yeah, I have no idea how they're gonna reconcile this with the setting. Some crazy story stuff must go down between INN and AVR. Like, what is it? Is it a "prequel" set before werewolves existed? Do werewolves get killed off? How is it even gonna be the same plane? Buhhh. No idea where they're going with this.

Any chance this is because of the frequently tepid reception to how unwieldy and awkward DFCs can be to play with?

Anyone trying to divine which set is the real one from the packaging is being kind of an idiot. Wizards clearly has the resources to make both sets of hypothetical packaging, which is exactly what they did here. It makes absolutely no sense for them to create a real one and then crap out a mediocre fake one afterwards. You're overthinking it!

Scars block is built around the conflict between Mirrans and Phyrexians. If they get rid of Mirrans (or Phyrexians) for the third set that kind of defeats the point of the block.

I disagree. Change is more interesting than consistency, and even though I'd prefer Mirrodin Pure, the decision that it feels like Wizards would think would pull more people in would be the crazy bad-ending one.

At any rate, though, trying to predict what they go with right now based on anything concrete is probably a stretch.

    Quote from Burnf
Just a thought, but couldn't Mirrodin Pure also be used if the phyrexians win? It could mean that mirrodin was purified of biological creatures. Purity can have a negative connotation, too.

Probably not. If the Phyrexians win, the set will be called New Phyrexia. I see no reason for them to be deceptive in that way.

This comment by Mike Turian struck me as kind of odd: when talking about why they didn't design Infect in Scars to be a top-tier Constructed strategy, he points out that they still have Mirrodin Beseiged AND Action to put more Infect cards into.

Now, this is probably overthinking it, but wouldn't there only be more Infect in Action if Phyrexia wins and New Phyrexia comes into fruition? By this point in development, I feel like Mike of all people would be in a position to know what Action is. Do you think maybe he let something slip here?

It's almost a bummer, because I'm a huge Mirrodin fan and I totally know I'm playing Mirran next set, but that Phyrexian trailer was so on-point I almost want to turn coat and go evil.

it would be so much better on Android.

Why? Is there an actual reason for that, or are you only saying it because you use an Android phone? (I do too, by the way - I love my Droid X).

fixed. remember, Infect is still here.

I guess, but you'll be facing it only about a fifth of the time, maybe a little more. This doesn't make it not good.

You know what? I'm down. 3 mana for a 0/∞ that I can put equipment on and fearlessly swing with? Yes, please.

Memnite, return Memnite, play Glint Hawk, replay Memnite, go

That is already a totally nutty combo, but it's especially insane when you consider that both cards involved are commons.

    love you, Wizards~

That's kinda neat! 1-drops make it still good (2/2 flyer on turn 2 with 1 mana to spare ain't bad), and 0-drops make it great. Can't wait to play around with it in Limited.

Huh, didn't see that coming. An actual futureshifted card. That makes, what, 2 printed?

I think it'd be safer to call this "a reprint from Future Sight" than an actual Futureshifted card.

It's nuts that this dude's uncommon - the Myr are super competitively priced already this time around, and he's an awesome, affordable lord for them.

Both his abilities are ace. I am so down.
