mono R burn is just as competitive like mono G infect, they both could win in FNM, but in GP+? not a chance.

I respectfully refute this statement by citing the top 32 finish of a mono-red burn deck in GP Kobe,Japan, 2014. Here's the link http://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=8053&d=246382

You're talking about an event TWO YEARS ago in a completely different format.

How is it a completely different format? Sorry but you lost me here.

Anyway, my point is it happened in a modern format.

Mono-red is just as fast as Naya, the difference is not in speed but flexability. Naya has a far better sideboard and can deal with things like Leyline of Sanctity.

In a local FNM I won against leyline of sanctity twice against 2 different opponents (BGx midrange/junk and UWR midrange/control) by playing more creatures I have on my sideboard like a set of Legion Loyalist . And luck also played a part that my opponents didn't draw well on both occasions.

No fetches and he even benched his set of Eidolon of the Great Revel . This was achieved in a field of 2,000 plus players.

or a Skullcrack can deal with the kor firewalker when it's attacking.

No it won't. You can't block it so all it does is stop any lifegain.
You have to attack into an untapped Firewalker and have them block while you have two mana up.

It is almost never the right play to block with Firewalker in the mirror.

My bad. Thanks for the correction

    I see.

Having read and said all that, in a tournament (let's say about 200-300 players)would you sleeve-up a mono-red burn deck?

The reason why I ask is because I remembered in 2014 in grand prix kobe, japan, there was a mono-red burn in the top 32 list (will post if i can still find the article), and that was in a field of at least 2,000 plus players.

Now, given the kind of meta the modern format has nowadays, would it still be possible to achieve that ranking or possibly even better in a major tourney?

Nice tip on the Reality hemorrhage , or a Skullcrack can deal with the kor firewalker when it's attacking.

Why would it be over if they play a Phyrexian Unlife if you can still deal 10 infect damage to the opponent? You can still outrace them right?

In a burn mirror match which would have more chances on winning game 1, a mono red burn or a naya/nacatl/boros burn?

Couldn't find any answer regarding this but, can you still activate arcbound ravager's sacrifice ability even when it's tapped out?

You can activate any ability, by paying its cost. There is not tap-cost for the Ravagers ability. You can use the sacrifice artifact every time for every artefact, even the Ravager it self. No need for anything else.

Thanks for the reply, but to make my question more clear, If you used a springleaf drum to tap the ravager for mana, can you still activate the ravager's sacrifice ability while it's tapped?

I've usually found him to be underwhelming as he never lives to go off; thus, I switched 2 of him out for 2 Spellskites. Spellskite has helped me win matches I wouldn't have otherwise; though, I have those 2 other Overseers in my SB for the mirror match. He is a necessary evil imo.

Yup, same thought here on the overseer. Although, instead of replacing the overseer with 2 spellskite, this is what I've been testing lately

Sideboard depends on the meta. Comments and suggestions are most welcome Smile

Don't you guys find steel overseer underwhelming if you can't cast him on turn 1? If against a midrange deck he's ok, but against combo and other aggro decks especially if you're racing your opponent I find him slow since you can't use his ability until you're next untap step.

So I'm thinking of cutting the 3 overseers in my main deck, what do you guys think?
