Something I want to get out of the way first: Has there allready been discussion on Goblin Wardriver ? I played Goblins in one of the last Extended PTQ Seasons (the one going from Lorwyn or Shards up to New Phyrexia) and I remember Warcaller being quite strong in that iteration of Goblins.
Yeah, we hate him lol. Well not really, but is regarded as too slow for a modern deck, so he has been taken out.
In all honesty, I think it is a lousy card for modern. The fact that you have to pay in order to create a token feels super slow to me. In addition this effect can only be triggered with non-creature spells.
If it were a non conditional token it would be a one-of for sure, but as you said, there are better options for a 3 CMC non-creature that I would favor before this: shared animosity and dynacharge.
I think it will definitely see a lot of play in standard, though.
PS: I am super dissappointed with this set, in terms of goblin action. I think that the only card that can see play is Howl of the Horde.
When ~ is turned face up, if it's your turn, gain control of target creature until the end of the turn. Untap it. It gains haste until the end of the turn.
Everything in our list dies to bolt lol. But anyway, do you think it would be plausible to run a mardu (RWB) list? seems like boros charm is calling onto us.
Holy ***** guys, did you see the new goblin we are getting? Ankle Shanker?
It's ******* expensive, but you can't say its not one of the coolest goblins we have gotten in recent expansions. Is it worth the hassle to make a Mardu goblin deck?
Yes, that's correct. With white we get boros charm which suits us dandy and maybe opens a gate for Path to Exile. I think we need to see what Khans of Tarkir and Mardu has for us.
Hey guys Goblin Warchief will be reprinted in Speed vs. Cunning; so, it's good enough to be played in Modern Goblins (I never had the chance to try him)? To me it seems good.
Thing is that, as far as I know, it ain't legal, as it's just a supplementary product (i.e. doesn't mean it will be reprinted in KTK). It would be really cool to have it reprinted though in Khans and I think it would prompt changes to how goblins are played. But in all reality, what we need is not things to make our guys cheaper, but ways to replenish our tanks when we go out of gas.
On a side note, with Khans of Tarkir edging ever closer and the confirmation of goblins in the Mardu Horde I'm hoping for some more toys for both mono R and BR goblins. Who knows? We might just get more gems like foundry street and legion loyalist! Or if we're really lucky we might get that aforementioned Lord of atlantis esque goblin. Seriously though,Lord of atlantis esque goblin. Get on that Wizards.
When were goblins confirmed for Mardu? I mean, not that I don't trust you but I haven't seen a link of that yet and I couldn't find it.
I am not sure whether this deck currently needs another lord, specially as there are other two lords modern legal and most of us are not really using them. I don't think I would even use a Warchief to be completely honest with you.
I would be much happier with a Ringleader or Matron, as the main problem of goblins is that it runs out of gas fast. Can it make the first four turns a miserable thing to any kind of deck (including all tier 1 decks)? It sure can. Can it sustain that amount of pressure after turn 4? I havent seen that yet.
But again, goblins as a tribe (not as a random creature that happens to be a goblin) have been mistreated by WOTC lately. I would try anything that brings tribal support back.
If you ask me, by turn 3, there are far better plays (with the current accepted mainboard) on turn 3 than rabblemaster second phase. If we dropped Wardriver for being too slow, then Rabblemaster is the same thing. And I am not saying that the game should be ended by turn 4, the thing is that we should be doing far different things in turn 5 than playing bush and rabble (which also relies on the condition of a land per turn).
Rabblemaster should almost never be a turn 3 play. By turn 3 we still want to be maximizing damage to the opponent while we still can. I think he is best used turn 4 after a turn 3 chieftain as it takes away some of his drawback. I wouldn't compare him to Wardriver, at least Rabblemaster does something the turn he comes in.
Rabblemaster should never be a turn 3 play FTFY. Anyway, thing is that we both seem to agree that it's underwhelming and that it will be replaced by any goblin. Heck, it could even be replaced by a Zo-Zu, Boartusk Liege or a Boggart Ram Gang, all far better alternatives.
Believe me, I want to be excited for a new goblin, but Rabblemaster aint the way. Wizards hasn't been kind with the little green guys lately.
Turn three IS when you can curve into the master, but it really depends on the board state whether or not you want to do that. Thats why I mention playing him second main often, or if you have a lot of other threats that you are playing out and you get to keep him around he is a great turn 5 with bushwhacker play.
Its late, but its not always true that the game ends in 4 turns, and its not true that isn't appropriate to also occasionally curve into him and play him turn 3.

He works, you play him with haste alongside a bushwhacker turn five or so if you have some board presence OR you play him second main so he doesn't trigger a bunch of bad attacks for you.
Dude, turn 5? I am talking turn three here, even turn 4. We have different expectations on what we should be doing each turn, it seems. If we are talking turn 5, we are a turn too late, me thinks.
We should never sink so low that we consider running Goblin Tunneler. Don't worry about tapping out blockers. Just make it so that your opponent cannot block profitably.
All of our deck lists should be running at least two Rabblemasters now. Hes packed with value and his drawback is almost meaningless for a deck like ours. With a Loyalist trigger he can take down anything in combat. He patches up our biggest late game weakness of running out of steam.
Not sure about this. I've played numerous games with my goblin decks and there are just times where just not attacking was the right call in order to create an even bigger attack. Also the fact that you are not always going to get the loyalists triggers nor the shared animosity (which i dont run).
