Went to the weekly modern tourney. Went 2-2, the first two games were bad experiences. (0-2 B/W Tokens, 1-2 Modern Aristocrats (again?), 2-1 Mill, 2-1 Infect (played it awesome))

I really struggled against creature with protection (the first two games I saw a total of 7 creatures with red protection (auriok champion, that silly white kithkin and paladin en-vec (wtf)). I was a tad frustrated by how the games went and seeing that my meta has mutated towards burn lately, I dont think that is going to change any time soon. Thus I will add some anger of the gods to my sb with the hope of not stumbling against decks that should be easy peacey for goblins.

Actually you should never vomit your hand out. If you have played goblins before, the most important thing is the tempo in which you drop the creatures. It is a dumb deck (specially game 1) but not that dumb.

The great thing about goblins if you like deck building is that there is plenty of field to create. RW is possible, you could go with Path to Exile, Lightning Helix and Boros Charm. Lead the Stampede, Domri Rade and Beast Within are all possible with green. So there's plenty of room to play in there. Any takers?

Running out of gas is one of the reasons why I run Night's Whisper. Cost 2, it's just 1B, and if life is an issue with our deck, then you were going to lose anyway. Ah! and we dont run any creature type synergy with the library, so whatever.

Sorry if I am offtopic but Piledriver wouldn't be the card that the deck currently needs in its state: The cards that would benefit Goblins the most are Goblin Bombardment, Goblin Ringleader, Goblin Sharpshooter and Goblin Matron. Other cards like Sparksmith, Sledder and Prospector would all be great as well and would give the deck a jump in competitiveness. Even more so, Matron would allow for a different archetype of modern goblins possible, as all other tutoring options are pretty bad.

From my experience, playing against Storm is a coin toss. Whoever starts wins. I don't agree with match percentage against Junk. I'd say it is 45% for us. I am yet to lose a Living End matchup. 8Rack is always favorable to us. Merfolk is a bad matchup and it always depends on how fast they can go. 40% against them. Scapeshift is harrrd man, I wouldnt dare saying we have a 75% matchup. It all depends on game 2, Blood Moon or Cavern of Souls. 40% matchup. And Amulet of Vigor plays alone. If they cant find the combo they die. If we get the Blood Moon in, we win. It's a somewhat favorable matchup at 55% from my experience.

I am yet to be a Foundry Street Denizen believer. I think it's decent if you run any kind of token generator and there are ways to just avoid them. It seems clunky and it is an awful late game draw. I prefer going with Mogg Fanatic.

Reading the primer I see a bias towards mono red goblins which I dont agree with. The other primer posted in Tappedout reflected my experiences much more. I might not hold all the truth, but I have played over 250 matches with BR modern goblins, so that's got to amount for something.

Played yesterday in our weekly Modern tourney. Went 2-2, because i am dumb.

    Affinity (1-2).

Game 1: He kept, I mulliganed. He started strongly and did 7 damage turn 2 with cranial plating. I tried to control him, but his damage was way too much. Easy game for him.

Game 2: I kept a 4 land hand with Shattering Spree. Alright. He started hard, Dropped almost his entire hand in two turns. 2 glimmmervoids, 2 ornithopters, 1 cranial plating. Turn 3 I drop the Spree and wiped his board. Awesome. Created enough offensive and he scooped.

Game 3: I kept a solid hand with Spree, but I needed to take a more reactive stance. He went one berserker dealt 5 damage turn 2, 6 damage turn 3 thanks to ******* cranial plating. I was able to kill the plating and a Spellskite. I started creating some offense, he was at 7, I was at 8, but I cracked a fetchland and went to 7. He then played a Shrapnel Blast that I did not know he had, equipped an ornithopter with a plating (his only two artifacts in play), gg.

    8Rack (2-0)

Game 1: I blasted him early, he wasnt able to create any kind of offense.

Game 2: He went on aggressive with smallpox and that definitely made my game slower. However I was able to find the guides and a loyalist and kept hitting him until I won.

    Jund Junk (2-1)

Game 1: He started dealing himself a lot of damage fetching untapped shock lands. I was able to kill his tarmo early game, and started dealing damage with jester + guide. I was able to kill two confidants with fanatic. I kept on hitting him until he scooped.

Game 2: He started really aggressive going with thoughtseize while I kept a rather bleak hand. I dont remember much about the game but he started hitting me with tarmos and Coursers who kept on giving him life. He dropped Tasigur, started doing silly *****. I scooped gg.

Game 3: I was able to deploy a very good early offensive and I was able to kept him at 7. He took courser. and he started recovering. I had a grenade and a fanatic in hand. I was able to draw a loyalist and blast him with grenade. He went on to 3 after a land drop. He started discarding my hand with Liliana and attacked for 14 with courser, tarmos et al. He was all tapped out and attacked with everything so I needed 2 (since fanatic) or at least 3 damage. Top decked a Hellspark, he didnt have anything. Great win.

Game 4 (BW Combo? Viscera? Weenies? Weird brew)

Game 1: I was able to deal 14 damage. However he kept on winning life, chump blocking my guys. I had two lands (2 cavern of souls) in play, a ***** ton of three drops and instants and sorceries. Couldnt draw the lands that I desperately needed and he won. Terrible game.

Game 2: I was able to deploy my army early, he had a slow deck, gg.

Game 3: Kept a hand with blood moon and chieftains and a few one drops and two lands. This is going to be great. Started playing hard, kept him at 7. Didnt draw a single ******* land in 8 ******* turns. I die on the inside when I had to scoop. *****ty game.

Really liked that primer. Makes some pretty good observations, which I agree with most of them (dont really like Mogg War Marshal and Foundry Street but that's fine).

Played on thursday on our weekly modern game: Went 3-1 against Blue Moon (2-1), Affinity (1-2), B/W tokens (2-1), Blue Delver (2-0).

Against Blue Moon Game 1: He used a lot of burn spells and counters to keep my field empty. I did my own with them beautiful Mogg Fanatic, which helped me keep the board clean of other weenies. He was very successfuly at his game but eventually he ran out of gas. He went down to 8, had two mogg fanatics in play, 2 lightning bolt. He tapped himself out to cast cryptic command, tap my creatures, bolted him, sac'd my moggs he wasnt expecting so much burn, gg. Game 2 he played dragon's claw turn 2, dealt 30 damage during the game, still couldnt beat him gg. Game 3: Dropped two caverns (***** was on), went with a bunch of weenies he couldnt do ***** I dropped two Eidolon (god bless him) he started dealing damage to himself, he got a few hosers, thought he stabilized when he dropped batterskull, killed that ***** with Dismember, swing for the win.

Against Affinity: First game I started dominating until he started dropping ******* etched champion, couldnt answer to it, I got him to three but he was faster. Game 2: Got the damage in early, he went berserker got 7 damage in turn 3. Fortunately I had 2 goblin grenade, 1 bolt, dealt him 13 damage when he was at 11, he couldnt believe it he really wasnt expecting that, gg. Game 3: I had a lot of hate in so I kept. Fanatics dealt their own, he started beating me with ravager with animate artifact started dealing monstruous amount of damage, but was extremely fragile no cards in hand, 1 land in play 1 mox opal. I needed the shattering spree, the sole terminate I sboarded, couldnt find em gg.

Against B/W tokens: ***** wasn't easy. Game 1, I dealt the damage early dropped loyalist, laughed at him gg. Game 2: I got a lot of damage in early (he was at 10 turn 3), he started dropping zealous persecution, totally wrecked my board gg. Game 3: He dealt himself a lot of damage with thoughtseizes and dual lands. The Hellspark Elemental started doing his own I got him at 4, but he started building his board, and started whacking me. He had lethal in game, I had a goblin grenade in hand, he was still at 4, got a loyalist, dropped the grenade I won. Big win.

Against Blue Delver: Game 1: He got the delver early, dropped the fanatic, he dead. Started dealing a lot of damage with a spike jester (god bless him) he couldnt answer to it. Kept his board clean with dismember. It was a slow, dragging, long game, until he ran out of gas as he just kept drawing shoals and cryptic commands, then I played a good chieftain, he couldnt answer it, and I knew he had nothing to counter the rest of my stuff. Dropped a spike jester, one turn, he drew extended his hand, gg. Game 2: Got a cavern early game, he tried his best to stabilize, wasted his cryptic commands but he couldnt find a response. gg, that game was easy but definitely not representative of the match.

Seeing that a lot of people are showing their brews, I'll show mine as well. It's not a straight goblins deck but more of a RB goblin burn take.

    3 Cavern of Souls
    5 Mountain
    3 Blood Crypt
    2 Blackcleave Cliffs
    4 Auntie's Hovel
    2 Bloodstained Mire
    2 Mogg Fanatic
2 Shared Animosity (not liking it thus far)
    4 Spike Jester
    4 Goblin Guide
    4 Goblin Chieftain
    3 Night's Whisper
    4 Hellspark Elemental
    4 Legion Loyalist
    3 Dismember
    4 Goblin Bushwhacker
    3 Goblin Grenade
    4 Lightning Bolt

    SB:

    2 Earwig Squad
3 Eidolon of the Great Revel
    2 Ratchet Bomb
    3 Shattering Spree
    3 Blood Moon
    2 Grafdigger's Cage

Last FNM I went 3-1, beating defender combo, mono green stompy and living end. Lost against Affinity 0-2. I'll let you know how I do next one.

So not really tournament viable then. But I suppose not a bad investment for some fun FNMs without losing too badly?

I would say so. It's fun and can definitely beat some 1000 bucks decks. The reason for that is that there is no decent aggro deck working in modern except for affinity, so they are ill prepared to combat anything besides artifacts.

If you are a sadist, then seeing people's pride crush when they lose against a 200 buck deck, its absolutely awesome.

Yesterday's recount: Went to the store, played against BW tokens. Won 2-1. A game with a loyalist in play it's almost like playing alone.

I think that modern goblins need a lot more sustain. With that in mind:

    Goblin Recruitment Plan 2R
    Enchantment Rare
You may skip your draw phase. If you do, search your library for a Goblin creature card with a converted mana cost of 1 and put it in your hand, then shuffle your library.

    Goblin shielding RW

    Enchantment Uncommon
Anytime a creature you control would receive damage from a source you may sacrifice a creature. If you do, prevent all damage dealt to that creature by that source this turn.

    Goblin Burrow Caves

    Legendary Land Rare
Tap: Add 1 to your mana pool.
1 Tap: Exile target goblin you control. Return it to the battlefield at the end of the turn.
If someone would see Goblins fight for the first time, he could easily mistake their cowardice with actual battle strategy.

Beautiful! Tell us more about the matchups (and whether you had salty opponents)! What worked, what didn't, so we can compare it to our experiences. Also would you care to describe how the Rabblemaster works for you? I am one of those who don't believe in his magical powers, so I am interested in any recount.

It is important to know that there are some of us that play a black splash, for the options both in mainboard (Spike Jester) and Sideboard (Thoughtseize, Earwig Squad, dismember, terminate, etc.)

I have used akki avalanche before. it is synergistic with legion loyalist. the thing is it gives opponent a hard time choosing who to block. also it is useful against merfolk who spreading sea your land. the primer had a list that use this cards and it won in the dallies. Go and take a look.

Holy *****. I hadn't thought about that. I considered it a pretty bland card, but now that you say so, I might even put a 1-of copy on my sideboard. I don't think it is mainboard worthy, but ***** if it isn't a worthy response against those pesky fishes.

About Jeering Instigator, I think that it is a 6 mana treason. Not worth it, specially if our tutoring choices are really bad.

I am highly sceptical about a non burn Goblins in modern, as well. Not only because it has brought me many victories, but because the amount of beastly giant creatures that needs response and removal is high. Granted, maybe it's because my meta is mainly focused on creature-based decks, but I dont see how we could make Goblins a decent deck without removal, specially considering we lack the utility cards from the Pre-modern goblins.
