I wish they would create a "rich pauper" format that allowed uncommons. I think that would still acomplish the goal of pauper (large card pool of inexpensive cards) and also make it more exciting and open up more deck types.

Personally, I'd skip over a couple of the slots in most of your lists.

I'd go turn 3 (with help of bird or elf, of course): Moltensteel dragon
    Turn 4: Gaea's Revenge

So there is no way to have Cockatrice show only green spells from zendikar, for instance?

I searched through the rulings forum, and life is the only thing looked at. Poison counters do not matter.

True. If competent judges were present, you would have been awarded with a double DQ.

A friend of mine lost the final of a GPT in Paris to the life total rule. His opponent had Ezuri's Archers on the play, which was effectively a 20/2 creature for one mana. Was pretty awkward (not to say outrageous).

My best advice: play faster. I have never ever timed out in a limited match before (not including Modo, where I've often been plagued with a bad internet connection), it shouldn't be too difficult to avoid that issue...

We're talking FNMs here. If the OP was at a big event, then a competent judge wouldn't have used life during the swiss portion of the event. This was also 6-7+ years ago. I'd still argue that at something like an FNM players should be able to flip if both agree, but they (Wizards) didnt start making the push about game concessions until a few years ago.

Good question Osamu. You should post that question in the rules forum and see what the judges there say.

If it was swiss it should have been a draw. We usually flipped a coin since a draw is more or less a loss for both of us.

Bigger pump, bigger pipe, and more heat (or cooling depending on the application) are pretty much what you need to know.

But yeah, we use them too. Obviously it depends on what field you're in. In my line of work now we use them mainly for control charts (in spec or not). Or to beat each other over the head with them in R&D meetings about how process A is better than B. Funny how the same numbers can suggest so many different 'right' answers.

UT: Actually, I'm an Industrial Engineer. I do not have a degree in either Mathematics or Economics. Wink

Guruu: Thanks for this. What's that statistical fallacy... Simpson's Paradox? Where the overall statistic is different than the individual ones?

I think that's what happened here. That may explain it.

But I really am curious as to why, if the probability you draw 2 or fewer lands (with its attendant higher probabilities of drawing land) is greater than the probability that you draw 3 or more land (with its attendant lower probabilities), the overall probability doesn't change.

Is this just Simpson's Paradox at work?

It always pains me to see a fellow engineer result to using the dark arts (I'm ChemE).

There are at least math majors here, and possibly Econ majors here. Nothing good can come of this.

Creatures like slash panther that have phy mana make for an interesting combination with Spawning shell. We'll have to wait to see what gets printed, but as it is now 4Phyrexian Red Mana can be played on turn 4 upgraded to a 6 mana creature on turn 5. I'm sure they were aware of this and won't print something like 2:sympg::sympg: that can be upgraded by 3 cc the next turn.

    Turn 1: elf/bird
Turn 2: 2 life and cast shell
Turn 3: 2 life and cast Slash Panther (swing thanks to haste)
Turn 4: Primeval Titan (likely after swinging with the cat)

I live in Houston and have attended several of the large preleases in the past. I've recenly started attending the ones at the store fronts. Over all the large prereleases seemed much better. The only downside has been that they are farther away. I've seen people turned away at the 2 different store fronts I've been to. You have to get to them very early to make sure you get signed up. They are also very crammed. I have a feeling they are going to be turning away more people in the future.

The ultimate says "Set aside all non-aura permanents exiled by Karn".
If that´s the right wording then the exiled cards from your hand won´t enter the battlefield after game-restart.

If the cards exiled from players' hands are permanents, then they will come into play at the start of the next game.

I'm not sure your opponents would agree that being looped to death (requiring a shuffle each time) until match time ran out would be more "fun" than being killed while staring down a turn zero Karn :). They would probably say both suck, but at least they didn't have to shuffle 18 times in the second case.

Why the heck do you need to infinite loop this? If you are starting a new game with Karn +1 random card in play, shouldn't you win?

Yeah, buying 4 or 5 tickets both ways on the train from Paris to Lyon or La Voulte is a lot more expensive than splitting the costs of renting a car and gas for those 4-5 people (excluding the costs of actually owning the car to make the comparison simple) to travel between San Antonio/Dallas/Houston/Baton Rouge (about the same distance).

I believe I paid 100+ for my last train ticket (one way). I could drive to Dallas and back on that with just one friend and come out ahead. More leg room.

The real problem, as someone stated earlier, is the really long trip. Hell, it would be well over a 1000 miles just for me to try attend a tournament along most of the east coast. None of my counterparts in Europe take a train when they have to travel that far.
