The throne will probably cost 4 and tap for 4 to draw a card. Jayemdae tome replacement. And still not useful.
Would be interesting if they did something along the lines of: scepter - reduce activation of other two by 1; crown - double the output of the other two (2 dmg, 2 cards); throne - untap other 2 when it taps.
Circle is rare according to picture. Nevermind, that doesn't seem to matter for the promos. Hopefully it is uncommon+, otherwise limited could be very slow.
Cost 1R
"What do you think is the better defense: a moat of water or a moat of fire" ??? I think.
Not even close. Back when you could stack damage a Goblin Fanatic could kill a X/2. If they made a 1/1 first striker with that ability then we'd be somewhere closer to it.
That version does kill x/2s. The version we have now kills X/2. That version also alows you to sac and ping any time you want to, something that can't be done with goblin arsonist.
In addition to volt charge being in the top 3 (if not 1). I'd probably add mortis dogs to the end of the list. I'm always happy to have multiples. They are aggressive and make removing them painful. They may not be #10, but they are at least in the discussion.
Black is rediculous in tripple NPH with the common removal listed. If you can luck in to any very good uncommons like dismember, black as the main color with just about any other color works very well.
I've been thinking about a red splash myself for Lightning Bolt and manic vandals. It makes Lashwrithe much less useful if you are running 8-12 duals in place of swamps.
I think Duress needs to be a 4 of in these lists. Another 2-4 slots can be meta game dependant, but I think Inquisition would get the nod. MBC can deal with creatures. It can not deal with equipment, and it has a hard time with planeswalkers. Duress takes care of the difficult stuff. I can see strong arguments for either of the other 2 after duress.
Anyone think about running Praetor's Grasp? Let me quickly say I think running Surgical Extraction MD is a terrible idea, and I'm not even sure it has a place in Standard SBs now (Legacy and older formats yes). The reason I feel differently about PG:
1) It's not card disadvantage
2) Caw usually tutors for its equipment, and usually only runs one of each. SE doesn't let you hit the sword unless its already in the GY. PG does not have the draw back.
3) Sword of FF is not fun to play against. Since they usually only run 1, this gets it
4) This essentially tutors for your opponent's best sword
5) Still somewhat relevant against Valkut and Exarch
Thoughts? The biggest drawback that I see is that it comes down on turn 3, which may be too late.
Virtual card advantage refers to cards that generate CA without actually drawing you real cards. I.E. Things like Inferno Titan, Grave Titan, and Primeval Titan.
You're using the Jargon insanely wrong.
And even if they drew a card that is too expensive to play at that point in time, who's to say you getting rid of a couple lands in his Library is truly to blame for that?
SE doesn't affect the board state; it nets you no CA whatsoever; it merely messes with the statistical output of your opponents deck in a not-so-noticeable way.
To add to Torm's point, who's to say that they won't have already drawn enough lands, and instead of drawing something they can't cast, they draw a threat when they would have drawn a land. Go read any of the painland/milling/statistics threads. Its doesn't work the way you think it does. Unless you are getting rid of a large fraction of the oppenents lands (and your not, 3 at best), and you are doing it VERY early, you're not doing much.
I've been testing out a B/R deck that abuses Immolating Souleater, Death's Shadow, and Fling for a couple weeks now, and it's pretty sick. I've killed people on turn 3 quite a few times, doing it about once every 2 matches. Here's my decklist.
The 9 B cards that let you look at their hand are really nice for clearing the path for such a win or finding out that the path is not clear and thus saving yourself the huge tempo loss. Turn 1 Hex Parasite, turn 2 pay 8 life and drop a couple Death's Shadows is also really nice and usually results in a turn 3 or 4 victory.
This is more or less what I've been working on.
A few things:
1) Surgical Extraction is a SB card. If you just want to look at their hand, you should at least be pulling a card. Add the 8th Inquisition; turn the other one into a 3rd Assault strobe
2) I like Phyrexian Obliterator, but I think you'd be better served by replacing him with Molten Steel Dragon. Same CC (if you pay life), helps the Death's Shadow, has evasion, and can get pumped to 10/4 with less life.
3) Gatekeeper is another card I like, but I think you'd rather have 3 more go for the throats. Cheaper (allowing you to remove a blocker and still assault strobe turn 3), and it doesn't allow them to sacrifice the stoneforge mystic when you really need the bird out of the way for your death's shadow.
I opened the format file in notepad to try to correct T2 to inlcude NP (and exclude alara..). It won't let me save the new file. It asks me if I want to replace the file, and then it gives me an error saying the path name is incorrect (saving as .dat and all files). I swear I've done this before. What am I doing wrong?
EDIT - figured it out. Didn't have permissions for some reason.
Did we get a spoiled card last time, or a spoiled reprint for SOM?

Should this replace the sticky at the top?
