The problem with changing the rules to allow cards to have creature types is that it plays merry hell with anything that says "name a basic land type". Since, under your changed rules, basic lands can have creature types, I can name "Goblin" and "Forest" for Illusionary Terrain. Or the opposite. You thought Life and Limb was bad? You haven't seen anything yet.
And another point is that as far as I know no one at wizards thinks it was a mistake to use Tribal as a workaround for the rules end. The problems with tribal are entirely related to the fact that having defined Tribal cards makes it difficult to avoid putting creature types on everything (does the art have a picture of a goblin? Better slap Tribal - Goblin on it, then!), which they don't want for developmental reasons. Additionally, it adds a great deal of complexity for very little gameplay gain.
Tribal could easily just be a subtype like Arcane or Trap. Arcane or Trap have special traits, tribal can just also have those special traits as a subtype. So a card would be Instant-Tribal Goblin. There, problem solved.
Yeah I'm in the same boat. I don't like the direction they are taking with Modern, but I also don't want to invest into Legacy(ded gaem).
I don't think it's reasonable to expect a perfect format that can be all things to all people. Most people are pretty happy with Modern right now and its direction, something suggested in tournament attendance and the sheer number of Modern events. I also think Wizards is partially to blame for miscommunicating the format's mission and mismanaging expectations, but to some extent, responsibility shifts back to us to be more realistic.
The only big complaint I have about Modern right now, which is very much banlist related, is the lack of incentive to play traditional control. A Sword unban, which I strongly suspect will happen in July if the metagame stays like it is or polarizes back towards Twin/Burn/Abzan, would be a great start at reversing that.
All of this is absolute truth. It's honestly been long enough. A sword unban would be far from reactionary at this point, and I do think the format could support it. Go esper go!
Why is it commonly associated with Esper? Couldn't WUR colors also use this?
I think the issue here is that there is a contingent of players who, like myself, would prefer if modern were legacy lite and resent that it is a heavily ban regulated standard plus instead. Without a solution to the reserved list, it is possible that there just needs to be another format introduced that is simply an eternal format where the reserved list serves as the starting point for the ban list. Failing that, we just have to hope for WotC to take a step back from trying to play the fun police rather than letting the format work itself out. With few exceptions (Skullclamp e.g.) the modern ban list doesn't need to be as comprehensive as it is. There has even been some experimentation with it via the modern banned series by Caleb Durward.
That's why I prefer having Overextended as a format, so the Legacy-Lite people will be happy instead of trying to make Modern more like Legacy.
But then we have two nonrotating formats in between Standard and Legacy? That's bad marketing, bad format management, bad economics, and overall a ridiculous plan that (thankfully) Wizards is obviously not considering. Wizards is not going to cater to the tiny subset of players who can't afford Legacy/think it's too powerful and also don't like Modern/think it's not powerful enough. There'd be more traction getting Extended back up and running then creating that disaster.
But when Legacy eventually fades away, without an Overextended format, Modern will become the new Legacy.
Fun to open, but damages the cards and is quite easily resealed after seeing a YouTube video showing how. Very disappointed that Wizards messed up so badly on that aspect of this release. After seeing the Japanese versions, really wish they would have stuck with that pack style.

No, seriously I can understand the concerns about running him but I disagree with the notion that he is somehow unplayable. Again there are dozen of Jund lists doing well to this day with a playset in the main.
It's a matter of taste. There is no right or wrong when it comes to running him. If you want to up the number of your 4-drops and Tasigurs then yes he gets worse but you don't have to built your deck that way.
By the way they wanted to reprint Liliana of the Veil in M15 because the obvious flavor connection with Garruk, Apex Predator but it turned out that Mono-Black was the dominating deck in Standard and they got scared.
Liliana of the Veil in RTR-THS Standard would've made Mono-Black broken, and some would argue that Mono-Black during that time period was already broken lol.
I think right now I'm more inclined to either Infect or Mono Green Devotion, but I'll have to look into those Burn, affinity and Zoo decks as well. Burn I have a good idea of what it is, but the other two I'll have to look it up.
Any idea how much money we are taking about to buy the singles for each deck?

KTK had an article about the cost of a deck and the competitiveness of a deck. Some decks are cheap but they also are kinda bad. Some decks are competitive but they are also really expensive. KTK used this formula and the three decks that ranked the highest on the cost-competitiveness formula is Merfolk, Burn, and Amulet Bloom.
I just changed my UWR control to UWR midrange, what do you guys think? Don't really want to use Geist cause it's too expensive, out of stock in my local shop and I find Blade Splicer better with restoration angel. Needs some help with my sideboard too against unknown meta.
Looks decent. I prefer having a 4th Celestial Colonnade instead of a Dragonlord Ojutai. Also, not sure about the playset of Wall of Omens. Often times WUR Midrange is the aggressor. And for the matchups that WUR Midrange is the control player, i.e. Burn, Affinity, Infect, Grixis Delver, I'd much rather have more removal/counters instead of Wall of Omens.
How important is Forked Bolt? I'm thinking of having 1-of as another turn 1 spell. But if it's not that important than I'll just replace it with another copy of Electrolyze.
You can't associate subtypes to other subtypes or super types. There are also specific subtypes that match to card types. Creatures and Tribals share their list. Instants and Sorceries share a list. Enchantments, Planeswalkers, Artifacts and Lands have their own unique lists.
Crib Swap can't have all creature types without being either a creature or a tribal. Since it isn't a creature it has to be a tribal.
Crib Swap can just keep the "shapeshifter" subtype and "changeling" rule text for it to count as all creatures.
It depends, is the comparison just based on the cards or do you take into account price as well? The first Modern Masters definitely has a better composition of cards. However, it is not necessarily better when you take into account price. For instance, the cheapest MM box on Amazon is $375, while the cheapest MM2 box on Amazon is $224. Which is a better deal, a MM box for $375 or a MM2 box for $224? The answer is subjective.
I was thinking more along the lines of card comparison and not so much money value. Just general card playability of the set. I wasn't around when Modern Masters came out and that's why I was wondering about this.
