See, I really like Brago, King Of Eternity. He's the first general spoiled in a LONG time to get me excited. Always some flaw in the art, color, or mechanics that I just didn't love. But this card's... *perfect*Not Worthy!

could it also just be "new-ness"? or are you talking about the 2011 and 2013 precon generals together? i feel like i see more Maelstrom Wanderer decks at my game store than I do all 2011 precon generals put together. But in the first 12 months after they came out, it seemed like all anyone was playing was mimeoplasm, kaalia, zedruu, etc.

Oh man, do I hate the precon generals now. The whole lot of them are intensely overplayed, and due to both their inherent power and availability, the player base has sacrificed originality for redundancy in seemingly wholesale quantities. I have nothing against wanting to try something new briefly(hey, I jumped on the bandwagon for a month too) nor can I feel justified disdain for extremely new players using precons as a gateway into the format, but I really feel as if they stifle the creative potential that is unique to this format.

Essentially, I dislike the open support for commander from wotc because their concept of commander is almost too streamlined. Deviation is minimized when you must pack the latest and greatest bombs to compete.

If you like the colors and Voltron aspects of Medomai the Ageless, but also want the speed and green of Edric, Spymaster of Trest, why not use Rafiq of the Many? Medomai is great in that deck, and you get to be fast and aggressive with your extra turns. You also get access to Regrowth effects and Finest Hour to get even more free swings.

And yeah, Edric is insane, but vulnerable if they expect him. I'd have a backup plan for sure.

Rafiq is cool, but building a consistent three-color base is more money than I've got. Two-colors can run all basics and be fine.

So consensus says Edric the man for the job? I can live with that. Though my deck will probably be more mid-range than blitzkrieg.

At my LGS, there's a group of about ~6 EDH players who regularly attend on the weekends. Of them, the generals they play are heavily dominated by blue and black, such as Oona, Oloro, Glissa, Good Braids, OG Ghost Council, Animar, and Jeleva.

I want to build a deck that can both hold its own in a control-laden metagame and abuses extra turns.

The three contenders for leading this military expedition are, as follows:

Edric, Spymaster of Trest - A retired scourge upon the French format, Edric's capability for both resilient weenie rush tactics and deceptively brutal politics make him a dangerous head to any simic deck. Extra turns are extra card advantage and damage opportunities for Edric, and thus have an innate synergy.

Jhoira of the Ghitu - Ironically innocuously named, Jhoira's well known for chaining Obliterate into Colossi and uses time magic to expedite her goals. Fun stuff, but fearing the hate.

Medomai the Ageless - I'm not going to lie, I just think this guy is ******* cool. The art is on point, the triggered ability is powerful yet not broken, and he's an evasive 4/4 who can voltron up (maybe) or lead an army. Time magic built in.

So, comrades! Which fearsome individual shall lead me to victory against the walls of counters and C Rifts? Explain in detail if possible, my indecision is a force to be reckoned with Wink

Needs moar birthing pod. It won't trigger Karametra, but it's an efficient way to cycle your dorks into threats or hate bears.

One thing that I've found useful in many of my EDH decks without blue or black is using Well of Lost Dreams + Words of Worship. Basically becomes 6: draw 5, gain five life, which allows you to remain a relevant threat late game when mana is abundant and threats to your life total are frequent.

Papa Garruk is also some mean draw who also synergizes with the lands your deck will be vomiting.
