I'll probably drop a forest for another plains. Luckily I didn't run into a lot of flyers, just someone running W/B allies with vampires which was my only game loss.
Round 1 was a Jund good stuff list, then a G/B delirium "aggro" list that was pretty interesting. Then the Allies. Last round was an Esperanto control list.
All in all I really enjoyed the list. I got some Bygone Bishops I'm throwing in to help with the flyers. Trying to track down more of the Recruiters. He was probably the 3rd most powerful creature in terms of impact on the game.
Like I said, I had 4 more MB slots to fill, so looking at some of the advice, I moved the 2 SB Skullcrack to the main and put Rending Volley in its place. Upped a mountain and put another Shard Volley in. Most of my LGSs meta is creature based so mode 3 of charm will still be active. Thanks for your help, guys.
I don't have $130 to drop on a playset of guides when I may not even need it. I'm just trying the 1of charm because it'll probably do something against most any deck out there but I may not want to load up on them right away. Where as against most decks, Skullcrack will just be 3 damage and that's all.
Here's the list I'm going to try and get together. I'm going RB because it's most convenient since I have more of the lands for it. What should I fill the rest of the main deck with 4 slots open?
I'd go down to 3 Shambling vents and get Sandsteppe Citadels out completely. You want to have as few ETBtapped as possible. That way, if you do have to fetch a tango right off the bat, you won't lose as much tempo.
To note another success, I went 4-0 at my LGS tonight (Temur brew, UW Part the Waterveil, Grixis Dragons, Abzan Blue) with my updated list.
The Radiant Flames instead of Languish was a meta call because I expected a more aggressive field. Worked out well enough. I need to get me some more Canopy Vistas and Bloodstained Mires. Stumbled once or twice because I didn't have enough white to do what I wanted. Secure the Wastes did some good. Dragonlord Dromoka was a workhorse though. I'm tempted to get another one in the main, maybe instead of the Woodland Wanderer, who was so easy to make a 6/6... And fetching a Forest for an early basic is not what you want to do. I'd rather grab a Cinder Glade instead so I have either G or R and not be stuck with one or the other. None of my spells need both, so...
Probably the two decks I had any trouble with were a Grixis dragons and Abzan Blue (who's pilot didn't know what the heck he was doing I think...). Not sure what to put in a rundown but lemme know of any questions.
Wooded Foothills with Smoldering Marshes? Also I've found that running the tri-lands with Shambling Vents will end up being worse for the deck. But I'm splashing red so maybe it'll work out okay for you.
I took this list to a 3-1 only losing to an Atarka Red deck because I misplayed with Secure the Wastes. The mana base I'm still working on, but the spells are pretty much where I wanna be right now especially Crackling Doom.
I've never liked using cleric unless I ran a more creature based deck like CoCo/Rally. Surge is what control wants to be doing which is removal with life gain to help stabilize. It'll hit most everything we're worried about early on. Cleric is only better at blocking little 1/1 tokens which aren't really popular right now.
Hey as someone just starting to get into modern, what would a budget affinity deck have in it? Yes I know it won't have the same power as the lists with ravages and such, but still.
Edit: This is what I'm looking at so far. I also have 4 Hangarbacks if they can find a place and 4 Darksteel Citadels.
What are everyone's thoughts on what the plan is when Thoughtseize goes out of standard? Barring some kind of replacement from BfZ, should we figure some kind of balance between Despise/Duress or go for the higher CMC hand disruption?

Favorite win was against a 4C rally brew. They used Brain Maggot against me but didn't seem that great as it goes away unless you hard cast/CoCo it.
