We've had stuff like this happen at my kitchen table a couple times. Usually it is done in a 'haha' sort of way, but we've had to pencil in a rule that there are no suicides allowed. You can't scoop unless all parties still in play agree, and you can't kill yourself to spite another player (unless we're playing hidden buddy or and it makes sense to kill yourself an another player to aid your teammate). It still happens from time to time but almost dead isn't dead so iron nut it up.
You set up a scenario that reads "no infinite combos" and then proceeded to describe two not infinite combos.
I think an infinite combo is very easy to define. It is when you say "and I go infinite..." and describe how you win without actually physically going through the motions. All the scenarios you describe here you actually have to go do stuff and hopefully not get squelched. No infinite mana, tokens, turns, or counters. Combo isn't infinite, combo is combo.
Also, for a tourney, I'd hope to go best out of three and be able to respond a bit better to your decks next time. And for a tourney I wouldn't try to ban anything aside from a certain cardlist, because yeah it totally gets too shady and in the weeds.
EDH makes sense coming from a budget standpoint only because you use 1 card in the deck. If I rip open a booster there are high odds I can use what I pull in EDH, and need to trade and work for a playset for use in 60.
That being said, once you start throwing 'competitive' around then of course things are going to get expensive. None of my deck costs more than $100. I don't have expensive mana bases (naya panorama and snow-tap lands) and use heavily played Sol Rings that still have 'interrupt'. I have fun playing. Some people come to the table and drink my tears, but different strokes and all that.
If you want to be competitive you are going to pay for it. This is true in everything ever. If you like red burn you can pay less, though, but you have to play red burn, so, there is always a drawback. harf harf harf
Again, not to sound like an insane person, but if I were playing vs you I would Negate your tutors and counterspell your Commander. You've never been Merciless Evictioned? No one plays Return to Dust? Every deck I play with swamps has a Bojuka Bog.
I'm not saying she's not powerful, because yeah it can get out of hand pretty quick, but there is a large gap between the scenario you describe and all the things I do to the person that plays with Bruna at my table. Heck even a single Deflecting Palm would wreck your day. The only time I've seen Bruna win vs. anyone is when they don't know it is coming. Like, oh snap that's what she does?
And how are you getting all exactly what you need in hand / graveyard? People just let you do this? I am so confuse.
EDIT: And how are you granting haste? There are like less than 10 cards in UW that give haste, most are equips. Who do you play with that lets that sort of thing just hang out on the battlefield?
Also we're forgetting sir Exalted much? Rafiq of the Many can be quite annoying because he's cheap and get's/give's double strike. If he ever "suits up" it's pretty much game over.
I actually find I do better in multi leaving Rafiq on the side and letting other creatures do the work, and casting him to enable something else. Medomai the Ageless, Cephalid Constable, or even Stormsurge Kraken usually don't draw hate and can easily swing in for doublestrike. This was before notuck, though, so it was a bit scarier having Rafiq out in play.
What usually happens is I pull one of my many tutors prior to turn 5 and tutor the exact auras I need. By turn 6 bruna comes out she's at the very least unblockable, shrouded/hexproof, a 15/15+ with lifelink and typically also has Celestial Mantle and either indestructibility or immunity to sac. If I pull one of my many artifact tutors I'll get Silent Arbiter and then I'm fairly safe. None of them have even considered building a deck around her which is why I made this thread.. I would've thought she would be one of the most popular generals to build around but was surprised to find out she's so fringe that it's difficult to even find any guides on her.
Does no one counter anything? How is she coming out on turn six like a boss? I would love to see this decklist.
I've a Mogis deck that packs every random {R} enchant just for the lulz. No one can really do anything and we all slowly go down together. Sort of reverse group hug.
If your meta sees more Gahiji than Niv-Mizzet I think it's a slam dunk.
Infinite combos are not allowed around these parts. Early dropped walls block that first wave of Daxos and Earl and the like. Talking multiplayer? Once someone starts beating up Party B, they tend to stick to the plan.
You play to win the game.

Nah it's there. Or is that a joke on the decklist's behalf?

Elkin Lair
Grip of Chaos
Possibility Storm
Wild Evocation
Make no mistake: this deck sucks. But it nice if I drop a Death Cloud with Mogis out and an enchant or two.
This comes from the same set that did Horned Kavu, Silver Drake, Cavern Harpy, etc.
