Looking to build a 5 color deck with all the best tap abilities and abuse them with stuff like Thousand-year Elixir, Illusionist's Bracers, etc. Just wanna make sure I covered everything. At one point I thought of just making it all legends like Merieke and Adun Oakenshield, etc but a fresh perspective would help.
Boros Charm on the Scepter is probably not the strongest play in the world. Obviously Lightning Helix or Remand or maybe even Serum Visions would be better.
The scepter is very vulnerable, and I personally like it in the sideboard for that very reason. I don't want to 2-for-1 myself against a deck that has access to abrupt decay, but against something like Tron or Pod, their MD answers are limited. If they don't see it G1, they might not side against it, and you might just get a free with with it.
Yeah, definitely a different move to put the premium removal spells at rare. Typically these guys (Dreadbore, Abrupt Decay, Mizzium Mortars) would be uncommon or even common. I mean, Oblivion Ring was common in Lorwyn and Shards; Terminate has always been common; Smother was uncommon; Flame Slash was common.
The interesting part is figuring out what effect this will have on the Limited environment. Premium removal will really be a premium...making creatures harder to kill? Or there will still be ample conditional removal, and these unconditional kills will be at a premium?
A bit delusional, your analysis on rarity.
Terminate - Dreadbore
This is the most questionable rarity of the lot, but it got an upgrade to rare mainly because it cheaply and efficiently deals with a rather troublesome permanent type (which only appears as mythic) and because this is the 1st time in the game this sort of effect is printed.
Smother - Abrupt Decay Smother was uncommon. The decay tags on uncounterability and the ability to hit almost all permanent types. Even though it adds a color, this is clearly justified at rare.
Flame Slash - Mizzium Mortars
This should even be less of an argument. Slash is common and Flame Wave is uncommon. Adding on flexibility and making this effective both early and late upgrades it to rare.
The set has a mechanic called Detain. They make a card called "Detention Sphere" and it doesn't use the Detain mechanic?? This really boggles the mind.
Agreed. But making the card actually "detain-pulse" tokens would be less effective.
If true, I suppose the Selesnya one would almost have to be some sorta Revoke Existence / Naturalize variant, uncounterable, but - if priced at WG - with some extra advantage.
The uncounterable Selesnya card is Loxodon Smiter.
R&D REALLY hates snapcaster if they're willing to print dryad militant, I mean holy crap that's just too good. a 2/1 grave hate one drop, strictly better in every sense than Elite Vanguard, and not even a rare
Not strictly. It's neither human nor soldier. Also, Pure.
No, the instants you exiled the previous time stay in exile, but the Kaho that returns to the battlefield is a complete different Kaho than the one that left, with no memory of ever exiling any cards. Even a Ghostly Flicker would make Kaho forget her previous spells.
Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I guess she'd be too broken otherwise. Reality Ripple works though, to retain the same 3 spells she has?
Oh, and do the spells you cast off of her go to the gy after 1 use each or do you get unlimited uses?
Visions can't go on Scepter.
Evershrike.
If it has flying, most probably it's a 2/2. WU activation is about right.
Which makes me think...
Gruul will have a trampling one, Orzhov lifelink, Dimir unblockable, Boros double strike?, Simic hexproof???

Or better yet a Ninja RAT walker? :))
