hey guys, i usually play tezz and there's been a lot of talk in our thread about how we topdeck poorly, i was giving it some thought this weekend and thought that if we controlled our opponents topdecks we could even the playing field a bit, so i started to look into adding some elements of this deck into it etc. i ended up with the list below and think it could be something. lack of ancient stirrings obviously makes the deck lose a bit of speed getting the lock. how necessary are the 3rd and 4th opals, and how would the deck perform with no glimmervoids? 21 lands seems plenty to cast tezz/whir, with the amount of 1-drops/artifacts i dont see the need for any more, possibly even going down to 20? I can see myself dropping whir altogether and adding the 3rd and 4th bridge back in to make the manabase a bit nicer.
I did a stream today with UB Tezzeret in Modern. I managed to 4-1 two separate leagues!
If you wanna check it out I have uploaded one of them to my youtubechannel.
I am psyched about getting Fatal Push!
Ill have to look, havnt been able to watch ya with work and the time zone. Great job!
After a couple months of working and not being able to go anywhere after Dallas GP, I hit up a spot in southern Cali on my trip for the holidays. Went 3-1 and took home cash money @ second place!
Game Two: Affinity (2-0)
Able to answer first game (literally drew combo to conceed). Game two, pithing needle his plating, took care of his full board with a damnation, bridge to Tezz ult. (Out: 1 Foundry, 1 Tezz, 2 Thoughtsieze In: 2 Pithing Needle, 2 Chalice)
Game Three Kiki Chord (1-2)
First game went to thopter sword combo into a conceed. Game two I pithing needle Kiki, a stony silence did me in as I never drew an answer. Game three I went down after I had a late answer to a Kataki, finished off with a LB to the face. I believe I took out a Foundry, Tezz, Spellskite for 2 Needles and two Spell Snares (cant remember what the 4th card I took out was)
Game Four: Affinity (2-1)
Game one combo'd out with bridge and combo. Game two he VERY slowly got me with Aether Grid, did not draw ANY sword/foundry, or cranes. Bridges couldn't save me there as he tapped me to death into a galvanic bombardent. Game three I played pretty good, locked him out with one bridge after he spent his wear and tears. Aether Grid again me down (couldnt EE them due to bridges being out) until I was finally able to stabilize with combo, ending up with 28 copters and back to 30 life before he said GG and quit killing my copters with his grid. Out: Smother, 1 Tezz, 1 Foundry, 2 Thoughtsize. In: 2 Hurkyl's Recalls 2 Chalice
So the bigthing I got out was this: i forgo'd pithing needle against affinity as I knew I could just lock him out. Chalice when SB'd in on matches really never did much, a lot of times it was a drop for 0 to empty my hand. I am sure this had SOME effect, but not a huge one. Playing for one on the Kiki match I may have won. Also I left one cryptic back home which is why I got the odd ball crypt, and am considering swappin out the chalices (however i know on burn these will come in handy)
So this weekend I'm gonna play my first ever Modern tournaments. I have come up with the following lists below and am open for any suggestions to improve this list. Feel free to comment with arguments Especially also on the sideboard
Sir,
I feel the Tolaria west is not really needed; you're running crucible which works great with a 4 of (or at least more than a one of) ghost quarter.
1-2-2. Beat R/U Eldrazi, Draw against Eltronzi and some combo deck, lost against Jund and a weird BW Spirits deck?
So this is my first ever event so I will try to let ya guys know;
Game One, R/U Eldrazi (2-0). Honestly he never been against Tezz. Both times Tezz ult for the win
Game Two, Jund. I did not have answers and his draws and skill beat mine, 2-0.
Game Three. This game was wierd. He ran Eltronzi. I got game one, 5/5 beatdown via Tezz. Game two I Needle'd Karn, Ugin whipped my ass. Game three, needled Ugin, couldn't find my second needle for Karn. He restarted the game 3 times with Karn due to poor plays and draws on both sides, went into turns.
Game Four. This was an odd game with a deck I've never seen. It was the Anafenza/Kitchen Finks/Unlimited Life Gain/Viscera Seer/Murderous Recap combo. Got him game one, games two and three he tied the whole "infinite combo I win" tactic, played it out. Game two lost out when he killed my bridges, game three was a draw when I needle'd the combo.
Game Five. I have no clue. He ran some sort of wierd BW spirit control build? Game one he had 3x paths in hand, could not 5/5 citadel, did not draw hand kills after 5 turns. Second game he boarded exiles (shoulda known!!), got me after killing 3x bridges via Austere Command after I used my only Negate in hand to a previous Stony Silence.
I went home sort of crappy, I want this to work. BUT! In the end, it was a couple hour drive, had a free room, learned some stuff, and got my first ever card (Revised Balance) signed by Mr. Poolse.
Hey guys, I have 2x Turmods Crypt and 2x Grafdiggers in SB. Thinkin of dropping the crypts for enchantment hate. Countersquall works on the fly but any other options that work for you guys?
Man, I really love the art and style and stats on Contraband Kingpin, blocks 3/3s with lifelink, but the ability on Glint-Nest Crane is so much better. Baubles will definitely be good since the guarantee more draws.
Nothing like being able to scry 9 times with the foundry lol
Thank you! You just made me remember what I forgot at the LGS!! (was going to swap out the signets w/ talismens). I even thought about dropping chalice to 1 and having the others in SB (i really am not a huge huge with staying with chalice in MB anyway)
I went off the base of the Agents of SWORD to start - I want to sub the thirsts out for vision, and add a pithing needle or two and plus a trinket mage along with card control (no LotV yet).
Any thoughts on what I can drop/SB? Thinking of dropping one more chalice and maybe a signet?
So far:
Hey all, getting back into MtG and dipping into modern as UB control was my deck in the 90's. Going with the third sword deck list for now until I can get lilis. Anyone in the san antonio area that want to colaborate?
Also, ty everyone for the input advice and work on this thread, there's def a lot of info i need to digest
You need to know what format you will be playing before designing a deck. Based on the cards you mentioned, it seems like it would either be Vintage, Legacy, or Casual. If you are playing Casual, then you are fine; forget I mentioned anything.
If you are playing Vintage or Legacy, you may be in for a shocking experience devoid of fun. I only mention this because I came back to the game after a long hiatus. I had this terrible Saproling deck (that I thought was awesome, by the way) and didn't even know what a format was. Since all of my cards were older, the only format I could play was Legacy. I immediately discovered how strong the decks had become over the years that I was absent. Fast forward a few years later and I own two decks that can win on turn one.
i know - and if i did actual tournament play, this falls into legacy. but honestly i just want it because it was a really really fun deck that i enjoyed playing with. i actually played this deck with thrown together replacements against newer decks when i went to our tech school after boot camp, pretty much couldnt believe all the new terms and fact that i could get destroyed in a few turns. then again, thats what a 15 year gap does to ya.
i appreciate it, i have most of those cards so i can prolly use that as a template. ive been trying to get good deals on ebay lots of inquest, and im hoping it was in inquest not scrye. been scrounging local comic book stores but air force bases tend to be rural so its a rare thing to find.
let me know your progress reedy i really wanna know.
Ill have to look, havnt been able to watch ya with work and the time zone. Great job!
