    G'day

I've been lurking for a few months, making the occational post from work but without the time there to contribute much. However, I've recently hooked up the net at home and this may change. But why might this be a good thing? I suppose I'll present my modest CV.

I've been playing since The Dark, and in tournaments shortly therafter. I've won numerous local tournaments up to regional level and have qualified for Pro Tour, unfortunately at the time I was too broke to get to Osaka. I love metagame analysis and developing new decks and tech, when you get it right and ride a rogue deck into the top 8 it's a great rush. Maybe that's why I keep returning?

Like many I've taken a bit of time off from MTG to have a life at a couple of stages; this time I've been back for 4 months or so and am just getting my head around the current metagame in T2 and 1.X. I'm also loving the rising popularity of Legacy, as 1.5 has been a favourite 'anti-social' format here in Australia for years. I'm also a member of Sydney's largest team; we test on a regular basis. As a result of being Aussie, I tend to be active in MTGParadise.

Anyways, I'll try to refrain from posting in compeditive threads unless I've got actual data, more spam avoided. In the meantime I might make myself 'useful' and hang with the noobs spouting old-school tech.

Nice comprehensive site, pleasure to be a member, do try to keep the flames down out there hey kiddies?

In my experience, a superior side vs burn at the same CC is Warmth, which isn't 1/2 bad vs gobbos also.

I believe it may be possible to fuse this deck with the faster R/G beats. If the 1 for 1 LD is removed and replaced with Thoughts of Ruin and some cheap fat, we might be able to run aggro early then 'geddon effect. I'd be tempted to lose the Burning Wishes to bring the deck into the early game. Good creature selection will allow Pyroclam to remain either main or board. A couple of Wildfires should remain as resets, and Seismic Assualt , Moldervine Cloak , Wild Mongrel and singles of Genesis and Anger are good synergy with LotL. If counters continue to be problematic despite the earlygame shift and cheap fat, consider Living Wish and a Boseiju, Who Shelters All . The Seething Song build also has a lot going for it, look at Chrome Mox and BoP for 5 mana second turn.

It is a shame to modify the deck so heavily, but speed is of the essence as control & aggro/control sets up so fast. Something like your build might do better as a type 2 deck, or as Mushasi mentioned, if the meta swings to slower, more powerful styles of deck.

Yeah, I gotta Bird deck - I am impressed at the power of Soulcatcher's Eerie, it makes this tribe better than the Griffins!

A little off topic, but what the hey...
Has anyone played tribal prismatic? You know, where it's a 5-player mono or dual color affair, and you have to wipe out the two opposing colors/color pairs. This is a nuts format for social multi-player, and making some tribes viable is a really good test of decksmithing skill.
In my old playgroup, elves ruled and the Elf deck actually won a PTQ with over 120 ppl (1.X, Tinker and CounterOath metagame), but this was 2001. Can anyone come up with alternate tribes which might be viable contenders for this crown?

So, are they ever going to finish the Fallen Empires block? What about Homelands? If this stuff isn't T2 legal, who the hell will buy it? The heavy WoTC support 4 T2 was meant to keep us all buying the new cards, they'll have only themselves to blame if sales fall flat on their face.

I'll be attending most in Sydney, Australia.
6ft tall long haired skip with chunky old skool Vision sk8board - most distinguishing feature.

Well done Aurorasparrow, a timely and well thought out article. The incidence of people playing netdecks without any thoughts of their own really is killing the fun of tournament play over here, and articles like this may go some distance towards skilling up these uncreative types. However, all the assumptions they make have been making my task as a rogue deckbuilder really easy...I guess I should hate you for making my job that much harder! A metagame where players think and build for themselves? Now that's scary...=^)

Goblins are certainly the fastest - in a fishbowl. Sharpshooter is the man vs most other tribes. However, Zombies and Clerics probably have the tools available to stop goblin decks. Building in response to another deck always takes longer to get right than getting a deck together to kill goldfish, but the speed of goblins makes this method sadly nessasary. If Squee was available, I'd say Zombies in a flash, but.....this will be tight.
