I wanted to try making a deck around these three cards since it seems like they would interact really well with each other but I wanted to make sure of a few things:
If I attack with Dreadhorde Arcanist and exile a spell with Krark, the Thumbless on the battlefield, would the spell return to my hand if I lost the flip instead of exile? That seems really good if true.
Next, if I have Harmonic Prodigy and I cast a spell with Krark, the Thumbless on the battlefield, would I flip two coins? I think the only way it could fizzle is if I got two tails in a row. A heads and a tails would copy the spell and return it to my hand and two heads would copy it twice.
Since RU Giants are a big theme in Kaldheim, I started wondering whether some of the M11 Titans are still too good to be printed in Standard. Creatures have gotten a lot better since M11 so I'm not sure. Primeival Titan is probably still a bit too good but I'm not sure if the same is true for Frost or Inferno. Would these two even still be playable if reprinted in Kaldheim. I don't expect them to actually be reprinted but it did make me think about whether they would be fine these days.
This is my take on a Kor tribal deck centered around Colossus Hammer. The deck has several ways of equipping it for free. Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist is also great with Bloodforged Battle-Axe. These also have great synergy with Armament Master allowing you to equip everything to him for free and pumping all your other Kors.
I had an idea of making a deck utilizing Phyrexian Obliterator and Gideon's Sacrifice, Saving Grace, and Pariah. I was trying to think of other creatures that could work well in this deck and found High Priest of Penance. I'm just not sure how he interacts with these cards. Since damage is dealt all at once, to I only destroy a single nonland permanent no matter how many sources I redirect to it at once? For example, if someone is attacking me with 5 creatures and I redirect all damage, I think I would still only destroy one permanent. Is this correct?
I'm curious if Fiery Confluence would destroy Siegehorn Ceratops if you chose the 1 damage to each creature mode three times. Would the ceratops get counters after each instance of damage or would it die before getting the counters?
I'm curious how many +1/+1 counters the following cards would get if they are blocked by multiple creatures in combat.
Spiritmonger: Whenever Spiritmonger deals damage to a creature, put a +1/+1 counter on Spiritmonger. Snapping Sailback: Whenever Snapping Sailback is dealt damage, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
Would these creatures only get a single +1/+1 counter each combat since damage is dealt at the same time (barring first or double strike) or would they get a +1/+1 counter for each creature blocking them (assuming they have power in Snapping Sailback's case)?
Here's a fun little deck I came up with to try to get as much value out of Grenzo, Dungeon Warden as possible. Basically, the idea is to cycle through my deck by sacrificing most of the creatures to Ashnod's Altar to pay for Grenzo's ability again until I get a large graveyard and cast Izoni, Thousand-Eyed to make a ton of insect tokens.
This seems like it could be pretty fun in casual with Kessig Wolf Run. It doesn't take up a card slot since it's just a land and he makes great use of both the trample and doubles the pump. Loxodon Warhammer would also get pretty out of control if he went unanswered.
The only reason that I'm using it is to more easily have metalcraft for Puresteel Paladin. I'm still not sure if it's really necessary, but I figured I'd try it out.
Feel free to change some things around to make room for some removal. I tend not to really use much in my decks but it definitely couldn't hurt to at least have something. I'm still in the process of playtesting and fine-tuning the deck myself so things might not be quite ideal but at least it can give you a general idea to build around. Hope this helps.
Personally, I like splashing black for Winding Constrictor in my Hydra deck. It is amazing with both Managorger Hydra and Primordial Hydra. My deck also uses Hardened Scales which can help out a lot as well. Unfortunately, while I love Doubling Season, it isn't really necessary here when you have much less mana intensive options that accomplish mostly the same thing (especially with Managorger Hydra who only gets one counter at a time anyways). With both the snake and the scales, cards like Llanowar Reborn can get very powerful in speeding up Primordial Hydra. Even just grafting onto a turn two Winding Constrictor can be really strong in the early game.
Black also gives you access to Retribution of the Ancients which is an awesome card when combined with Protean Hydra or Strangleroot Geist. While Protean Hydra may not be the best standalone card, it works really well with certain other cards such as Cartouche of Strength and Bounty of the Hunt. The +1/+1 bonus on the Cartouche makes it so your Protean Hydra can't ever die by damage while also giving it free counters and trample. Bounty is very interesting here because it was errata'd to give and remove counters instead of simply pumping the creature until end of turn. Targeting Protean Hydra with this will end up leaving it with an additional 6 permanent counters by the end of the turn. This is especially good if you have ways to protect your creatures or against decks light on removal.
The first thing I would do here is to max out on 4x Vampire Nighthawk since it seems strictly better than both Deathgaze Cockatrice and Malakir Familiar ins this deck. Using more Nighthawks also greatly increases the strength of Soulflayer if you wanted to keep that card. Otherwise, it would usually end up just being a 4/4 deathtouch which, while not terrible, there are better options. In a straight mono black deathtouch deck, I think Gifted Aetherborn is pretty much a must since he is a strict upgrade to Hand of Silumgar in a mono black deck. Other good options for deathtouch creatures are Gonti, Lord of Luxury, Ophiomancer, and Sidisi, Undead Vizier.
There is also the option focusing the deck around Swarmyard. Being able to regenerate your deathtouch creatures will make it very difficult for your opponent to deal with your creatures in combat, allowing them to often go unblocked or become great blockers themselves. There are several deathtouch Rats such as Typhoid Rats, Rancid Rats, and Ruin Rat. While it may not have deathtouch, Crypt Rats is amazing with Swarmyard, especially when equipped with Basilisk Collar. In a rat focused deck, cards like Pack Rat and Marrow-Gnawer could work great as win conditions. If you weren't big on making it a rat deck specifically, splashing green would allow you to add Hornet Nest and Deadly Recluse, which are both great deathtouch based cards that happen to work great with Swarmyard.
