    I love playing MTGO. The current client has a couple of issues but I can live with these. I would like to see them impliment multiple windows so I can have my board on one screen and the opponets on my other monitor.

    Playing MTGO is much more convenient when you have 9-5 (more like 7-7) job. Since free time is quite limited. Plus from South Africa the cost of online boosters etc is stil less than buying the physical stuff.

    Just my two cents worth ... Smile

    This is most probably an area where I am totally out of my depth. Partly because I have done some reading and know that I don't know very much. Not that that will stop me from speaking my mind Smile

    I believe that the first step in a venture like this is to create a consistent notation of the concepts. This will firstly clarify and define the concepts that have been mentioned above and those still unmentioned. Secondly it will clarify the inetarctions and operations between the concepts.

    Once this notation is in place real life games can be anlaysed based on this notation. As the analysises (how would you say yhis Smile ) are evaluated rules might/might not evolve. These rules can then be tested empiricaly (spelling) and verified.

    And yes this whole enevour (spelling) is huge but I think worth while and most importantly FUN. I might even get some ideas for a PhD out of it :))

    I'm not so sure it is unworkable. Obviously the example I gave was way to simple. Other modifiesr would include stuff like the speed factor of paticular deck type, as well as card synergy modifiers. The probablity of drawing a card at some optimal time would aslo have to be factored in etc etc. But I am convinced that a workable teoretical base can be established.

    Well as far as I can see the SA M:tG scene is thriving. In Johannesburg, where I i live, there is at least 4 stores that play either weekly competiotions on saturdays. I know of two stoires where they play FNM. And thats just places I know. But I do play online, but that is mostly just to get better, I don't like spending money and not having someting physical :)... I'm not sure what you guys pay for boosters but we pay about $5-$6 at the current exchange rate. This make it a little expensive but then what else would we be spending out money on :). I further know that we do have nationals etc but again tickets to europe of the US is quite expensive.But thst enbough blabbering from me for now :p

    Very nice article. I was actualy wondering (coming from and engineering/software development) if anybody has done any studies on quantifying the card evaluation process.

    A very simple example of what i mean follows:
    Raging Goblin
    Base Cost = R = 1.5 (Colorless would for eample be 1)
    Toughness = 1
    Power = 1
    Hast Modifier = 0.5
    Type Modifier = 0.001 (Goblin)

    Value = (Power+Toughness)*(HasteModifier+TypeModifier) - BaseCost
    = (1+1)*(0.5+0.001)
    = 1.002

    This is abviously much simplified , but you get the idea....
