Cyberium_neo is right. The purpose of Hunter's Insight is usually for Goku. We want to Generate... about 7 mana, with 3 G and 2 U and the rest whatever color. Then Kaseto is a 6/6 unblockable, who will draw you 6 cards. Even 5 mana for 4 cards would be awesome. Its just generally pretty good value. Just be careful about getting him removed before damage occurs, punching people in the face for X dmg is good and all, but here, we are greedy monsters. You want X dmg AND X cards.

I think it'd also be very nice to draw cards after you grab a big creature with Gilded Drake then draw from it.

However, I must point that most of your creatures are small until you pump them, and no doubt Kaseto would be the prime target for removal, hence limit your creature size. What is your experience like thus far in getting creatures big and happen to have Hunter's Insight in your hand? Because the card is only as useful as the creatures that can attack AND damage. If your opponent let a small creature through, you don't draw much out of it, might as well add equipment to have some permanent pump and penetration (like Sword of Fire and Ice).

I may be wrong, but I believe there's restriction on posting deckles on the general EDH forum.

Cool. Why play Hunter's Insight when you have access to blue?

I think it's because that the creature may potentially have high enough power to make it economically sound. Drawing 2 cards would already makes it better than Inspiration, and likely far more, at instant speed.

General Tazri is amazingly on theme, and as Truth pointed out, you can play with less than five colors if one wants to.

Oath of Jace... well, I think it can be a good flicker target, and its ability pretty much warrant a superfriend set up.

Sigh, what's up with the simpleton man-land in new expansion? They could've given them secondary abilities. For this one, it could be: "Whenever a land is put into your graveyard, put a +1/+1 counter on ~."

They could've given the new Linvala two colors, like WG, to resemble the Thragtusk she hailed from. That said, she's boring and the art doesn't even come close to the way she looked before, more like two different people with the same name. What's up with version 2.0 legends with complete different mechanics? Linvala 2.0 could've have some denial abilities.

I choose my general under various screening:

    1) I dislike gimmick and non-interactive generals, so I avoid generals like Narset, Enlightened Master and its ilk.
    2) I like versatile generals, therefore my first EDH deck uses Marath, Will of the Wild.
    3) I like generals that can be build around more than good-stuff generals, preferably more styles than one, therefore Daxos the Returned is a good choice, capable of going token, voltron, reanimation, etc.
    4) I like colors themselves could be open to combos and multiple wincons.

During a game, I choose general base on the colors of my opponent. I usually choose one that's outside of the already chosen color(s).

For black, there's Gate to Phyrexia and Phyrexian Tribute, so I can definitely see black enchantment removal akin to those design.

@ OP: I think you're on a good track. But I would advise you to play Daxos as the general. Enchantments are kind of Orzhov's secondary theme behind life gain/loss.

Many of the enchantments have ties to life, as well as sacrificing. Besides, we've alot of good enchantments in recent years. Many players wouldn't play an experience legend in their 99 unless it's maybe Meren. So if you play to play Daxos as well it's better if he's your general.

Likely going with the aforementioned Athreos route; with a lot of creatures, including bestow ones, to maximize the sacrifice value of each.

I think this spell being white is fine, consider the biggest Super-Friend-friendly planeswalker is Ajani, who is aligned with white mana.

It will work, but you're going to have a little bit of a focus problem. Even if a lot of them play similarly with broad themes like lifegain and sacrifice, the specific cards that really make different generals shine aren't always shared. Ghost Council of Orzhova is interested in regular sac fodder of any size, Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter and Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim want larger creatures (and even those two are looking for different things). Teysa, Orzhov Scion wants specifically black creatures for sacrifice, none of the others care about color. Karlov of the Ghost Council is more interested in many small lifegain triggers, Ayli just wants to go big. You're going to end up with a playable deck, but it's probably going to be worse than a deck built around any one of them.

I've tried a similar thing with a number of mono-R generals that played nicely together and I ended up scrapping the idea and just sticking to one of them. Some of the others have been in and out of the deck, but the deck was more fun to play sticking with one main theme. It can definitely work to fit some of the complementary generals into one deck, just don't be afraid to cut the ones that don't fit as nicely if they're dragging down the deck.

Makes sense, and one of the saving grace of Daxos in this kind of deck is that the token he created are both black and white, although I can see that he's still better coupling with Teysa than the rest (she is in my Daxos deck). Daxos's creatures eventually would get bigger and bigger, so that'd fit the bill for Ayli and Vish Kal.

In a way, Ayli probably prefer small sacrifices as well, since they are expendable and easier to produce with various cards, and if a deck goes life gain she probably don't need to sacrifice too many creature (or large creatures at that) to reach the 50 life mark, at least when I tested Karlov deck it has been pretty easy. If there are enough small creatures, Vish Kal can sacrifice them to achieve the precise # of +1/+1 counters, with less risk of spending more counters than needed.

Let me make a list (should probably be a chart):

Athreos, God of Passage - Requires non-token creatures, recurring creatures supports life/sacrifice strategy, also benefits Bestow effects.
Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim - Requires life gain and Sacrifice, supports removal.
Daxos the Returned - Requires enchantment, supports constellation and tokens.
Ghost Council of Orzhova - Requires sacrifice, supports life gain and taxing.
Karlov of the Ghost Council - Requires life gain, supports removal.
Obzedat, Ghost Council - No requirement, supports life gain and taxing.
Selenia, Dark Angel - No requirement, but prefer life gain, supports enters-battlefield effect.
Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts - No requirement, supports tokens and pillowfort.
Teysa, Orzhov Scion - Requires death of black creature and sacrifice of white creatures, works with token, supports removal.
Triad of Fates - Requires creatures, can work with both token and non-token, supports enters-battlefield effect and politics.
Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter - Requires sacrifice, supports removal.

Soul sisters probably satisfy most of the above requirement, and tokens can be done with enchantments. Cards like Phyrexian Processor can make black tokens big or small. Definitely need some time to think this over...

Reminds me of the Christmas gift thread. Smile

I want to complete some two-color decks. 1) I have mono-color and tricolor decks but no guild decks, so I want to make a few. 2) Every color has staple cards therefore tricolor decks have a few too many all together. 3) I don't have to worry as much about getting the right colors. 4) More options for generals!

Of course, I prefer less popular generals just so I can do whatever I want with creativity. Currently, I'm working on Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper.

Orzhov generals, including the new Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim, appeared to have very strong synergy together, enough that one could probably put all of them into the same deck and still able to function well. Has anyone tried this? I imagine the deck would be creature focused life gain deck, with the usual Soul Sisters and Extort theme.

The only issue I see here is that Daxos the Returned would be slightly lackluster here, consider there won't be as many enchantment and Heliod, God of the Sun can already add to the token production in this deck. An old Athreos, God of Passage enchantment deck I read uses bestow creatures to good effect, which potentially allow Daxos to be part of such direction where you will have enough creatures and enchantments.

    Skullclamp? Grin

It gives equipped creature +1/+1, which might prevent the death of 1/1? Or do players get to choose which happens first?
