The bit on avoiding Okinawan references is ridiculous. Okinawa is Japan. Many cultural / historical developments viewed as quintessentially Japanese come from Okinawa (the shamisen, the sai, karate etc.) Any messy politics between Okinawa and the rest of Japan largely revolve around the unwanted presence of the U.S. Military base (which takes up a large portion of the main island) and the way the Imperial Japanese government treated Okinawans like cannon fodder and sacrifices at the end of WW2, in large part due to this very tendency to see Okinawans as "separate" from the rest of Japan.
WOTC's exclusion of Okinawan cultural contributions only plays into the poisonous notion that Okinawa is not really Japan. Japan and Japanese culture owe a lot to Okinawa. -

peteroupc posted a message on Sunbird's Invocation and Creative TechniqueWith Sunbird's Invocation, after you cast a spell, if any (such as Creative Technique), you immediately put "the rest [of the revealed cards] on the bottom of your library in a random order" (C.R. 608.2c). The spell you cast doesn't resolve before you put those cards there this way. Indeed, no spell can resolve while another spell or ability is resolving.Posted in: Magic Rulings
EDIT (Jan. 11): Clarification. -

Argus Panoptes posted a message on Venser + Soulherder[c]Venser, the Sojourner[/c] -> Venser, the SojournerPosted in: Magic Rulings
Quote from cyberium_neo »Venser's +1 exiles a permanent and returns it at the beginning of the end step, while Soulherder exiles a creature at the beginning of the end step. Last I know Venser's "returning" is a delayed effect, is it possible to return a creature he exiles, then exile it again with Soulherder?
No, because you won't be able to choose it as "another target creature you control". At the time you are putting "At the beginning of your end step, you may exile another target creature you control, then return that card to the battlefield under its owner's control." on the stack, Venser's delayed "Return it to the battlefield under your control at the beginning of the next end step." might be on the stack but it will not have resolved yet.
(601.2c is the selection of any targets.)603.3b If multiple abilities have triggered since the last time a player received priority, the abilities
are placed on the stack in a two-part process. First, each player, in APNAP order, puts each
triggered ability they control with a trigger condition that isn’t another ability triggering on the
stack in any order they choose. (See rule 101.4.) Second, each player, in APNAP order, puts all
remaining triggered abilities they control on the stack in any order they choose. Then the game
once again checks for and performs state-based actions until none are performed, then abilities
that triggered during this process go on the stack. This process repeats until no new state-based
actions are performed and no abilities trigger. Then the appropriate player gets priority.
603.3d The remainder of the process for putting a triggered ability on the stack is identical to the
process for casting a spell listed in rules 601.2c–d. If a choice is required when the triggered
ability goes on the stack but no legal choices can be made for it, or if a rule or a continuous
effect otherwise makes the ability illegal, the ability is simply removed from the stack.

Natedogg posted a message on "Put lands into play" with Modal cardsNo you may not. You only have access to the back side if you're playing or casting it. If you're putting it onto the battlefield, then you only look at the front side, and the front side of the Recovery is a sorcery, not a land, so you cannot put it onto the battlefield back face up.Posted in: Magic Rulings -

willdice posted a message on God-Eternal Kefnet and MagecraftKefnet does not copy a spell. He copies a card from your hand. And then he allows you to cast that copy. Casting that copy counts for Magecraft, but creating the copy doesn't, because the card you drew and revealed was not a spell on the stack.Posted in: Magic Rulings -

Werewolf_Rawr posted a message on THB Twitter preview- Allure of the UnknownPosted in: The Rumor MillQuote from cyberium_neo »The number of people wanting powerful cards with no downside is staggering. Deck building is about minimizing or negating flaws on otherwise powerful effects, not taking a path with no bumps. SonofaBith75 mentioned Kaervek, and Teferi/Grand Abolisher shuts down spells cast outside of opponents' turns. In a group game, Allure of the Unknown could also be a political card when you need to gang up on someone, allowing an opponent to benefit from a spell you got.
Why play MtG if one can't be creative?
You make an excellent point. -

Presumably because WOTC feel that they must create more powerful black female characters with only positive White qualities (purity, nobility, steadfastness, courage, etc) in order to subvert the intersectional power dynamics and overthrow the cis-normative white supremacist patriarchy, or something like that.
Can we not? Can we just not? Let’s just talk about the card and not about politics when something other than a white male is depicted in the card art for once please? - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

This set was intended to include reprints, but not so convenient that you can pick and choose the most expensive booster. It’s not a precon.
But people will complain because they can’t all pick the pack they want for easy cash back.

Black creatures do not equate black people though. By that logic, Virtue's Ruin destroy white creatures, does it mean white folks are innately more virtuous?
A generic word doesn't hold THAT much power. It'd be a lot different if the card is something like "Purging Savages" or has art depicting characters with African features.

I'm not interested in Thalia enough to open my wallet for this one.
WotC should be very careful with SL tough. They're pushing the series out so frequently that customers might become sated just as quickly.
