Hey guys, recently hopped on the pyromancer parade and have been having good success with Gerry T's list. I plan on playing it at GP Phoenix, but I have a question for ya'll: With Boggles recently making a comeback and leylines having been incorporated into the MB, does Crackling Doom become a viable sideboard option as a 1-of? The casting cost is a little demanding and a bit pricey, but it's a clean answer to any hexproof threat regardless of leyline and can get around Dryad Arbor. It's also an instant so it doesn't deviate at all from our plan of filling up our graveyard for Revelers. This is my current sideboard configuration. Thinking about removing a Kambal for the Doom:

Gonna miss the often undervalued Rakdos's Return. Card is/was such a blow out against midrange and control. Also going to miss Dreadbore for being one of the most efficient 2-mana removal spells in Grixis colors. And as cool as Stain the Mind is, it will never replace the uncounterable Slaughter Games against control =(

Not going to miss Mutavault. By far one of the most annoying cards in standard. Also Sphinx's Revelation. May future card draw never take on such a horrifying form ever again.

Managed to go 3-2 at today's Game Day with my previous list.

Both of my losses were to G/R/x monsters lists and I must say, not having Mizzium Mortars in the list hurt a lot, especially in the face of turn 2 Courser of Kruphix. Anger of the Gods is one of the biggest reasons why I play Grixis and it usually never fails to get the job done, but it falls a bit short in that match-up when I need their Stormbreaths/Coursers off the field. Might just add another Perilous Vault to stop the flood of monsters, but Courser has usually found them a new hand of creatures by then; creatures that they won't be over-committing to the board after I play it. That extra 1 toughness on Courser really annoys me.

Also, it feels like every time I start falling in love with Izzet Charm all over again, it seems to let me down despite how multipurpose it is. This may just be due to its ineffectiveness against monsters list, (which I see a lot of at my store) but all it's been good for lately is killing Mutavault (besides the occasional counter of a plainswalker when they tap out). Might just substitute it for more card draw/removal, but a part of me feels like this is a step back rather than forward.

Hey there guys. Love Grixis and still play it despite being nowhere near Tier 1. Managed to get 2nd last week at my local FNM with this list and thought I should share:

    Some notes after piloting:

-As land-flooded as I thought I would get with this list, my ability to scry so much made drawing into threats/responses a non-issue while simultaneously allowing me to never miss land drops. Also, Urborg has shown to be a fantastic inclusion as a one-of, helping me fix properly and turning Mutavaults into black mana for convenience. Speaking of Mutavaults, I've found them to be incredibly useful as an alternate win-con.

-Contrary to what most might think, I believe Mogis is a solid addition in this deck. The ability to constantly pressure either an opponents life total or board state every turn by just sitting there is awesome, especially when that pressure comes from a usually non-interactive source (indestructable permanent). In a deck that struggles to have consistent win-cons on the board (save for Aetherling maybe), it's nice having him and Keranos taking turns incremently winning you the game. Also, the ability to shock a planeswalker every turn saved me a few games from some nasty would-be ultimates.

-Jace's Ingenuity was a much needed upgrade to Opportunity at 1cmc less IMHO. I'm not a fan of tapping out turn 3 for divination...or a fan of any sorcery speed draw for that matter, so the reprint was much appreciated. The card was seen in every single one of my match-ups multiple times and I might consider just running one more for the full playset alongside Jace AoT for other card draw options. Also, nothing made me happier than seeing an opening hand of "6 lands, Ingenuity." AUTO-KEEP.

-Liliana has never let me down every time I've managed to stick her on board. Always managed to find me that one card I needed to either regain control (ha, get it?) of the game or just flat out win. Also, having her tutor for an Ashiok, passing, Aetherspouting their board of threats, and then slamming that Ashiok to take the threats is absolutely delicious. I call it the "Spout and Pout."

-On that last note, Aetherspouts is a house and I'm very glad for its printing. It is a much needed pseudo-board wipe/tempo swing in colors that don't offer the same luxury as "Verdict, go." I do prefer to keep them in the sideboard though as a 2-of in the face of G/R monsters and other midrangey creature decks where they're most effective. Heck, even when my opponent had prior knowledge of it via lifebane or seize and decided to played around it, they were still effective at making my 1 for 1 removal that much better.

-Lastly, Perilous Vault performed admirably as a one-of. 'Twas another board wipe/tempo swing I was very appreciative of at its printing and another card that hasn't let me down in both play-testing and actual tournament results. Best part is, unlike Spouts, it's completely unconditional removal (provided you have the mana up) and gets rid of everything at instant speed barring pesky vaults. Might consider adding another in the sideboard since they've been so effective in the monsters match-ups (something I see a lot of at my store).

So all in all, I'm pretty happy with the results I've had with the deck. M15 gave us a few cool toys to play with until Khan's release and I plan on experimenting with some of the other new cars I believe might have potential in Grixis (Jace TLG, Souls, Scuttling Doom Engine, Circle of Flame/Polymorphist's Jest, etc.). I'd also say I'm pretty confident piloting the deck in almost every match-up. Except Mono-Black aggro. I hate that match-up.

Hey guys. New to the forums here, so forgive me if I make any mistakes in my deck posting. Big fan of Grixis and have had decent success with my latest build.

Still haven't managed to get a hold of the new BNG Grixis cards (Temple of Malice, Drown in Sorrow, Bile Blight, etc.) so sideboard isn't as updated as it should be. You'll probably all notice I went extremely greedy with the Mutavaults, and while I agree they hurt your mana fixing a bit and are hard to play in 3 colors, they've proved invaluable to me in the aggro and control match-ups. Despite all the double mana symbols I have in this deck, I haven't run into as many mana fixing issues as you'd think, most likely because of the 2 Rakdos Keyrunes, who have also proved to be both an able body and a decent form of ramp. I obviously still have issues against aggro despite all the removal, but that's usually when I turn to my sideboard for the Angers (and hopefully the Drown in Sorrows when I get them). Most mid-range match-ups for me are a breeze, especially after sideboard. Control match-up is by far the most interesting and can go either way depending on draws for either player.

Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated Smile

Hey guys! Been a while since I've browsed through a forum, but I'm pretty sure I'm headed in the right direction by introducing myself here. My name is Kareem, and as you can tell from my avatar, I like Pokemon; particularly Farfetch'd. MTG, however, might just about be the only thing I like more than Pokemon. I started playing back when 7th edition was released and was mostly a casual player up until the Coldsnap release when I finally quit. I recently got back into the game last year when one of my favorite sets was re-released: Ravnica. Since then, I've become pretty competitive with the game and try to participate in as many tournaments as I can. I still play casually of course, but I also wanna win some money/cards for a change :p I hope to participate in a PTQ one of these days. Besides that, I love the game for what it is, but I kinda wish they never took away mana burn...oh well! Nice to meet you all Smile
