Sorry about the affinitydude. I kinda gave him to you after making a missplay to put him in drawbracket against you. Had really hoped you would beat him. He acted like a complete ass towards most people in the tournament and im surprised that he didnt get any gameloses with all the warnings he got throughout the day.
The main reason most people dont play the deck is because the avarage magicplayer plays slow and will end up in time every round especially online. Alot of people I know like how the deck plays out, but despite the minimum interaction within the deck, you still need to perfect the sequences to every situation. some things takes longer to figure out than others. And most players arent cut out to read 5-10 turns ahead, which results in more stalling. Ive seen plenty people pick this up, only to convert over to soulsisters because they felt they didnt have time for 3 games at all.
I've yet to have many opportunities to play against Eldrazi, as I've been finding more people trying to beat it then play it, however, I imagine that on T3 we just want to play a prison, something we can't do if we need to activate Martyr after playing Hawk on 2. Yeah, we can activate it on 4, but by that stage, we should be able to stabilize pretty effectively with more basic tools anyway. Anyway, Hawk blocks their tramplers pretty badly, and is generally a pretty slow source of blockers, if they have a hand which is fast enough to beat us anyway.

how is mastery doing a better job here? can anyone please come up with some relevant arguments for why this cards is even brought up? I would never want to be forced to play it on T2 and even if i had to, that just means i wouldnt be activating it till T5 earliest, asuming this card is such a huge loss in tempo that it requires to play wrath on T4. Basically i see it as a winmore-card. it does nothing untill youve already won, and then you gain a bit of life and make some 2/2's. arguments against affinity is worthless. i dont recall anymore the last time i even lost a game vs them, so basically instead of this you could put any white card in your deck, and it would be about as useful. by the time you can activate this without fearing for your life they dont have creatures anyway.
And how greedy are you if you play hawks in T2 if you have a martyr in hand vs eldrazi wow. no wonder you dont see why its good. Im not sure by this point if youre trolling or you just havent played the card at all or if you just played it wrong every single time.
@Demannictheorc I would want to play more ayli, but the legendary seems to creep up on me (luck?) so i keep it at 2 in main and 0 in sb. Shes not so much of a MUSTanswer that opponents get rid of her as she hits the plate. and it seems any other white card in hand that you cant play, does somewhat the same role. Though i wouldnt want to run less than 2. had a few games where it was relevant with more than 1, once was enemies having a sorin emblem, and emeria has to target in upkeep so you cant return the one youre about to sacrifice (he ended up having 5 emblems and i still won, was good fun :D)
monowhite cant play without flagstones, it is a must. imo the bw version doesnt have room for it, as its sometimes crucial to kill a creature on turn 2 with charm, and fetches does the trick slightly better. Would probably run flagstones instead of fetches if i didnt have any, and would consider running them instead of any whitefetches that arent marshflats.
Well if you were one of the people who read the whole thread youd know how many games ive played. Although against eldrazi i havent had that many games (10-0 in matches,20-5 in games), and im not putting out that stony silence is the best card vs them. Im just saying its better than some of the mainboard cards. at worst it gives you 1 white permanent for misveil, at best it gives them 4 dead hate cards.
think i covered my thoughts earlier with other stuff? but with the colorless lands, i see your point, though usually its not a problem. GQ can hit each other, or other lands to fix the colors. I dont think not hitting emeria is that big of a deal. usually its just what tips it from being in control to fully dominating and winning. i wouldnt want to run less than 2 mistveil. too many times have i lost the land, and not been able to get it back. but 5 colorless lands, is okay when you only need to splash black.
Stony silence isnt only for affinity. it works great against tron, eldrazi and lanterndecks as well. or just against anyone who would side in relics or engineered explosives.
Ive run lingering souls a couple of times, but it always makes me feel empty handed. it "only" gives 4 creatures. cant recur it. dont get me wrong the card is great, but so far ive cut all 4 from my list. im testing the new gideon atm, and maybe if he overperforms im letting some back in, but with ayli in as well it will get hard to find a slot i think.
my current list:
i agree on sorin main seems a bit off atm. Im trying out gideon jura again atm since im not running prisons in main - nothing says fck you agro like t4 wrath t5 gideon +2. Have any of you tested gideon ally of zendikar? he seems better than sorin imo, even if just cast and instasacced for his -4. I think ayli deserves up to 2 spots in the 75, and i would probably play her over utter every time. Moving baron to sb for the moment, dont know if its my local meta, but i feel like id rather draw a 2nd ayli in the matches where i would sb baron out.
im not sure if im doing something really right, or everyone seems to do something really wrong. So far ive yet to lose a match vs infect. think im about to hit 30-0 in matches. i only recall twice that i lost a game to infect. Both monoW and BW should have np with the matchup. they have to do t2 kill, where we have only taplands and no blocker/removal. seems highly unlikely. especially in g2 or g3. inbetween 4 paths 4 GQ charms/runedhalo or prisons + wratheffects, it seems to me like this in most cases are easier than burn. Just wondering if im extremely lucky, or if everyone is screwing themselves over. i keep seeing people playing proc losing to infect. whats going on?
grishoalbrand often boards in bloodmoon because they can play it turn 1/2 and it wont cost them much compared to the ekstra time that will buy them. affinity will do the same in some cases if they expect to grind with the grid and they will know that they wont get through with their infectlands anyway as theyll get GQ'ed.
i agree with demanic, they feel clunky sometimes in those matchups, i do however feel theyre some of the best cards vs infect tokens affinity merfolk and elves as it slows their decks down if it hits t3. think i might cut down on them or move them to sb, but i wont get rid of them for good.
50/50 on the bannings, more tron is gonna come, but that would mean more aggro decks will pop up. Guess well pack more tron hate, and get more autowins. Im at the point where im considering running the leylines main again, they absolutely crush the eldrazi matchup as well, which is also gonna pop up more frequently now i guess with the new set rolling out extra editions for them.
