'Betrayed by the Hope Held Most Dear' could just as easily mean that the people have discovered the falseness of the Avacynian religion, like we knew was a potential outcome from The Lunarch's Journal.
Perhaps but then why does it say "terror falls from the skies on blood-spattered wings"? Granted it doesn't necessarily say angels and the semantics could be argued to mean Terrors are falling above onto the winged creatures but usually the phrase is taken to mean that the terrors are falling from the sky through use of blood-splattered wings.

There could be many meanings but the main points i'm guessing
1. Something wrong is happening to the angels, potential antagonists
2. "nameless horrors" above or beyond the typical Innistradi variant are gathering.
3. It mentions plural Planeswalkers of the Gatewatch, which suggests not just Jace but another of the the Saviors (maybe) of Zendikar will appear.
4. The "Planeswalkers of the Gatewatch" part makes it sound as if they've joined into a formalized order. Interesting.....
In THE ART OF MAGIC: THE GATHERING – INNISTRAD, terror falls from the skies on blood-spattered wings and nameless horrors lurk in the shadows. These pages, lavishly illustrated with the award-winning art of Magic: The Gathering, are your entry into a world beset by terrible evils on all sides and betrayed by the hope it held most dear. Tread lightly as you follow the heroic Planeswalkers of the Gatewatch as they investigate these dark mysteries
I'm happy to get a look at Regaltha. Unfortunately there will be just some planes that just won'r ever get the blocks they deserve. I used to believe Fiora, Shandalar, and Regaltha would one day be featured in more than just specialty or core sets but I'm not so confident anymore.
If Muraganda or a similarly themed world is one of these close-coming new planes then I would hazard to bet Domri will show up.
Personally I hope it's underground world. I wants full-art Underground-themed basic lands!!
Unfort. we won't see full-arts for a while after this.
So no, Shadows was never meant to be the third set of BFZ block. That potential set was killed and the block reworked to fit into BFZ and OGW when they decided to switch to the two-set model.
Not arguing with anything there.
What I am suggesting is that if creative wanted to do Eldrazi with more Lovecraft flavor and less Galactus, they would go to Innistrad. The old block structure wouldn't support that because 2 years of the same villain is too much.
We are on the precipice of the 2 set paradigm, there is something that happened between BFZ and SOI that broke the camels back. I am not saying the majority of BFZs third set ended up in SOI. But if their original idea was to spread the titans out in each set, then creative was like "man wouldn't it be cool if one of the titans was on Innistrad" that is the kind of thing to make them re-evaluate block structure (our proverbial straw).
I don't even think Emrakul will show up in SOI. If they do it right she will be in the second set, with only the lightest peppering of hints in SOI. That way all three titans can play in standard and we get great Lovecraft flavor. There are a few things to look for if this is the route they take;
Merfolk: Absent from the first Innistrad if this tribe shows up place your bets early. Doubly so if they take creative cues from deep water fish. This is the biggest tell I can think of.
Cultists: If the cultists are acting stranger than we have seen them previously, like perhaps abandoning the demons they once revered for something more ambiguous. Strange totems and trinkets.
If we see more cards of people losing it like Mad Prophet that would also be a good indication. Also gotta point that one out because (this one is a stretch) there could already be something other worldly trapped in the moon.
Agreed. There are certain hints that we will have to look for but if they are present in the first Return to Innistrad then an Elderazi- or close Eldrazi Invasion seems likely....
Could that even work? A close invasion as a potential antagonistic force in the narrative. Could the populace feel the approach of Emrakul and the setting of Innistrad be changed or influenced by the the incoming presence of a titan? The heroes could maybe even ward off the invasion by destroying cultists trying to draw Emrakul in or creating some kind of planar barriar. The more I look at it, a near-miss invasion seems trickier to plan than an an actual appearance of Emrakul and her spawn, so it probably wouldnt happen the way I mentioned.
I'm sure you're right in regards to the plethora of themes within Lovecraft but often Wizards sticks with the most well-known of themes from a trope, the others being present perhaps, but less focused on as can be seen in Theros being a representation of popularly known aspects of Greek mythology with only a few Easter eggs representing the "other" stuff.
Quote me and hold me accountable to my claim. The Eldrazi will make an appearance in the upcoming Return to Innistrad Block.
I usually think Dwarves as W/R but that's me. While I'm leaning on their appearance to be in an Underground Plane I think they could reasonably fit in a Norse plane as well.
Most of us know but I would hate to spoil it for you.
And if anyone mentions what almost all of us already know please but a Spoilers alert to protect those who've successfully avoided fatpack booklets
I usually really love Kiora but in this article it was easy to see why some don't. I fear she may meet her hubris pretty quickly....
Which is sad as I feel like we just met her.
It could.
