I'm aware that there is no end of all of the stories in sight but you could at least wait to see the results of the changes they're making before you call the changes bad.

You've just gotten into the game and have gone and read all the old novels? That's great but some people don't have the resources or the time to do so. That doesn't mean I'm not invested it just means my life is different from yours. If you want to be degrading and say I don't care as much as you because of that then so be it but it's awfully small-minded.

And "stop complaining" is a fine way to put it because, as I said above, you don't know what they are planning. If you complained to get merfolk back or to get a trans character so what? That just means that you want them to tell the story you want instead of letting them tell the story they want to tell. If they want to tell a story about a trans person great but they shouldn't be pressured into doing so because it just further sets that group aside as something special that needs to be accounted for and thought about instead of them being just another person which is all they are. They're telling the story they want to tell. If you want to tell the story you want to tell then go do so. However complaining about something like this without even knowing why they're doing it is just pointless and foolhardy.

There's basically no way to say this without offending you, but doesn't the fact that he searched out and read all of the books in a short period of time suggests that he might actually care more than you about the story? I really don't want to make you angry, it just seems like that's a pretty good example of someone who cares more than most about the story of Magic.

This is silly. How do you quantify "caring about the story"? Do you know Gutterstorm so well as to know that he is not doing other things that might symbolize similar devotion? Suppose he/she is an avid Fanfic creator spending endless hrs in the night creating spin-offs of the stories? Perhaps he/she names all of thier children after MAGIC characters (Which would be weird but is besides the point)? The point is, is that no-one really knows anybody enough to make such statements such as who cares most about the story and such talk will only lead to a pharisaic argument about who's devotion to a cardgame story-line is greater. It is pointless. We are all alike in the eyes of mtgsalvation, unless your a moderator.

I think perhaps it's not so much that I'm upset about people offering criticism, it's just that criticism needs to be tempered with inner dialogue as to why maybe the company is making the changes the way they are. It is perfectly understandable that people dislike change as it can disrupt the foundation about what one knows about a story. However, patient, constructive criticism tries to see the good with the bad and that is kind of feedback that Wizards I think will respond most positively to. No-one is denying anyone's rights to speech here but we're asking everyone to calm down and consider the broader view. Also there should be no *labeling* people as somehow lesser vorthoses or casuals just because one does not attempt to try to read *every# piece of Magic fiction. I'm sure that's not what all the critics are implying, and I understand now PlayerKent that this is not what you meant. However, I feel there are some players here who may feel unjustifiably superior to other vorthoses due to being involved in the game longer. Your opinions matter. So do ours. So lets just bring everything down a notch. It is understandable that these changes are alarming but lets everyone be a little more considerate of the opposing view, newloredefenders like myself included.

Ok, so in response to all the people complaining about the "retconning", a massive part of the reason that this storyline shift is happening is because when stories were outsourced and not controlled directly by the creative team, inaccurate things were stated, and characters had things happen to them that weren't canonical. Truthfully, it's at the point where unless it comes directly from wotc, it's probably severely flawed. Anyone who takes something like Test of Metal or The Purifying Fire seriously needs to move on. Think of them like fan fiction. They're poorly written stories using known characters that generally miss on major plot points. That's the end of it. Whining about how retcons suck or change Canon is irrelevant, and is on the same level as complaining about "back in my day we had ante and banding and we liked it."

This isn't 1996, the game has evolved, and with it the story. This is a clear effort to improve things, as we have had some clear failures in the past. Accept it and move on. Take off the nostalgia goggles.

Boy that is a false equivalent if I ever saw one. Our problem is with the fact that the story structure is inherently unstable. It's not just these books you claim are not controlled by WotC. They're retconning Uncharted Realms they wrote just a few months ago.

Frankly, I suspect you're trying to bait us, but I think it's pretty obvious that things are sort of rough right now for any Vorthos who wants to be able to see the stories they've written in the past actually expanded upon in a consistent matter.

No offense dude, but I kinda feel like you subtly implying that if we don't agree with you that we must inherently not be true Vorthoses. I am a true Vorthos. I just don't pillage and burn every time the story does not reflect my view on magic. I think we should trust Wizards in this. Perhaps once these last batch of retcons occur then the story will occur more smoothly without any more.

We are not necessarily casuals. We care very much about the story but apparently have more faith that the company knows what it's doing.

Um, I'm gonna stick my neck out and suggest something Really crazy.
There is no rules saying a planeswalker card cannot have multiple 'types' i.e. planeswalker- Chandra Jace
So my hypothesis is that with so many walkers involved in the Zendikar plot this would be an excellent time to showcase PW cards featuring *Multiple* Planeswalkers.
    My predictions:
    First Set
Gideon/Chandra RW- They are polar oppossites but strangely attracted to one another. One could maybe even die in the story creating a love tragedy....

Nissa/Kiora GU- Gaurdians of Zendikar, perhaps not the first but certainly contemporary. Both will do almost anything to protect the plane

Sorin/Ugin WB, Colourless- This one is tricky but I think a colourless WB card could represent them both really well. Pretty sure they will be there.

    Second Set

Nahiri W- a standalone W Planeswalker card cuz she's gotta appear in the Climax! A girls gotta crash her own party y'know

Ob Nixilis B- Although with much sacrifice, The protagonists I think will win the day, it'll come at a cost. I think part of that cost may be the reigniting of Nixilis's spark, his great ambition. Again a climax piece.

Do we know for sure that with the new creative shifts taking place that the retcons won't desist? That's the feeling I got from last weeks article- that they're gonna try to tel more cohesive stories from now on, but I guess I'm an optimist. I do wonder if we're gonna get a second round of origins stories after the first initial batch is done. We did not see much of Regatha.

I agree. I wanna go to Fiora again ASAP. But I don't mind mind Kaladesh. As for the retcons, I kinda expected them. The Creative team understand where They want to go with the story, but there were problematic details that had been established that didn't quite fit. I wouldn't worry too much as it seems like there is big shift to consolidate all the stories into one meaningful whole. If this one last sweep of retcons ensures everything following origins remain canonically true to each other then so be it. That's my opinion anyway.

    I think so

I'll be the first one to say that I don't like Jace,
But he's the most popular Walker in Magic so obviously lots of somebodies do like him, so I'm not really helping anybody by whining. So instead I just focus on who I do like and hope that those Walkers pick up in Momentum- Like Sorin, Elspeth, Gideon, Xenagos.
It's not true contribution if we focus only what we are not liking, or don't like. If peeps focus on what you DO like then maybe this thread will look a lot less like a bad soap. Guess what I like?
Seven revisits to some favorite planes and Three NEW planes to Explore !
    Magic Planes For EVERYONE!
Edit: yes, "NEW" is being used somewhat in relative terms

I imagine many, if not all, of the planes will at least lean towards a color. Innistrad naturally towards black, Bant towards white etc etc but I do think we'll see some in other colors with the exception of Red and Black on Bant.

I agree, it would be pretty boring if the planes were divided by the colour of their respective walkers. I wanna see the order of Heliud, the Denizens of the great forest and such. Returning mechanics are about "powering up" right? So Heroic for Theros, Exalted for Bant, Level Up for Zendikar, I don't know these are just things on the top of my head and I'll stop speculating, sorry mods..

Problem: these stories are still short stories. Will it cover with enough depth and detail to cover the ignition of each planeswalker's spark? I wish each was at least a two-parter...

I know a lot of peeps are whining b/c of more Theros but to be honest, Theros is the plane I've fallen most in love with. I'm glad tht as Theros block rotates out its presence will continue to be felt even if it is only a little bit, 1/10th of a large set's setting.

Don't large sets get more than 2 weeks of spoilers? Apparently the week starting tomorrow will be one which ties to the marketing gig. Shouldn't we be expecting spoilers starting June 15th or even the 8th?

I personally Hope so. If not then I'm gonna hungerly devour every Uncharted Realms article we get.....
