Can I get your guys arguments for cards you like, but maybe everyone else thinks is terrible or has a strictly better counterpart? I wanna hear reiculous arguments for cards because of some roundabout strategy that TECHNICALLY could be true. Like "divination is better than muldrifter because you can twincast it and your opponent can't stifle it." Make me truly believe that a worse card is better, or that razor boomerang is totally usable.

I used to be all for proxying, but have come to realize it does encourage sort of a Cold War style weapons race of powerful proxies. When you CAN proxy dumb stuff why wouldn't you? Oh and now everyone else is! It's just a slippery slope with no checks. To avoid pet peeves our playgroup has just started a home ruled banlist. Not everyone has the luxury of a continual group of friends, I know, but it does help us eliminate complaints and problems ahead of time. We banned sol ring, and most other "why isn't this in every deck?" Cards, as well as cards that one-shot people or cause huge problems for certain decks or colors like triumph of the hordes or Bloodmoon. And while I do understand that the board looks different to everyone, when someone random swings or blatantly ignores a threat, I makes me want to stop playing for a bit. I have one friend who seems to jus play to watch stuff happen and won't hesitate to board swing at the guy with no permanents, no hand, and no health while the guy beside him has a field of threats and is sitting at 200+ life.

So, the electromancer is a bear, that speeds up your spells. But it dies to everything right now, and math-wise, you need him to cheapen at least 2 spells to be worth his own mana. He's not bad, I've just had bad luck with him.

Back in alara/zendikar I ran a hilarious grixis cruel ultimatum homebrew. The format was very slow with Naya light saber being the fastest deck Anyone would touch. I would drop mindlock orb against knight of the reliquary and all their fetches and ranger of eos. 90% of the deck was removal and counterspells. I ran 3 ultimatums, 2 nicol bolas, and a sorin markov. The format got so slow with Iona/jace decks that I was actually running a cast through time at one point. It sounds stupid and jankey, but it was the most 1st places a deck has ever gotten me. Cruel ultimatum with rebound hurts. Grixis charm was a hero, and the only creatures I had we're a playset of nighthawks and 2 blood witches side boarded. Fun times.

Also, steam aug. is constantly a letdown for me. The punisher mechanic on it always hurts. I find inspiration to be much better in my izzet deck, and mine isn't even that heavy on the control.

Storm breath packs a wallop, but 4 main may be excessive. Niv Mizzet is also a bit high-curve in my opinion.
