The current number of valid targets, just as you did the first time you cast it. When you remove the last time counter from a suspended spell, you essentially cast it just like normal, which means the nephilim's abilty still works just the same.

Note that none of the copies will be suspended after they resolve, only the original will be suspended. They aren't actual cards, and once they are moved to the exile zone they will cease to exist (meaning they can't be suspended).

So, following what you said, would that mean that suspended spells count toward Storm on the turn they exit exile??

Not at all. The copies are exiled with three counters, but cease to exist as a state based action immediately afterward. You will never be able to cast the spells.

  • posted a message on declaring blockers and flash creatures
When you go to declare blockers step the first thing you do is assign all blockers. They are all assigned at once and no player can take an action while they are being assigned. Once that is done the attacking player decides a damage order if any creatures are blocked by multiple blockers and then each player gets a chance to cast spells or activate abilities before damage. However once past the initial assigning blockers part no new blockers can be declared.

You declare attackers as the very first part of the declare attackers step. Once they are declared either player may cast spells or activate abilities. Once both players have chosen not to do anything else they then move to the declare blockers step.

Leyline is still good in the SB just not against Storm. Either they combo out through Empty the Warrens or they hit Echoing Truth and return your Leyline just to hit you with Grapeshot. Against Storm I usually side out 4 Kor Spiritdancer, 2 Unflinching Courage to bring in 1 Rule of Law 1 Eidolon of Rhetoric 2 Rest in Peace 2 Nature's Claim. The split of Rule of Law/Eidolon is just because they are both essentially equivalent, but redundant copies aren't as bad since they are named differently.

  • posted a message on mtgo redeeming cards question
The way redemption works in MTGO is you collect an entire set with every card and then pay the fee ($25) and they'll ship the set to you. Depending on exactly how many cards of the set you actually use this is can be cheaper than just buying the cards you want directly from say ebay, but it's usually not by much if at all.

1st round was against Storm. Since I know the guy, we were discussing the Canonist vs Eidolon thing and he told me that LSV thinks he will replace Canonist in most decks so I quickly grabbed one to check it out. His argument for Eidolon ("If I'm on the play, chances of me going off T3 while you also are able to bring in Canonist T2 are pretty slim") was pretty compelling. G1, he managed to go off T3 on the draw, which started another round of debate Canonist vs Eidolon... G2 I tutored up Eidolon T4 for the win (having 4 toughness was actually relevant in that game because he had bolt in hand).

So having used it, what are your final thoughts on Eidolon of Rhetoric? I'm also thinking of replacing Ethersworn Canonist in my SB for Eidolon. Are you sold on it, or do you have reservations? The 4 toughness seems clutch.

It's trade off between resilience and speed. When it comes to it, storm is also running bounce or wear/tear, so 4 toughness doesn't always help. I'll probably wait and observe what the pros are doing. If they think the risk of not being able to stick the 3 mana guy quick enough is worth the fact it actually survives bolt, I won't argue with them.

Storm decks don't run Wear//Tear, or at least I haven't seen any that are splashing white. The most popular lists though run 4 Bolts and only one Echoing Truth. Since their only answer to your Eidolon is Echoing Truth it's generally a much safer pick than Canonist since they have 5 ways to deal with that post board, more if they run Pyroclasm.
Which one you prefer to SB is a question of is a turn faster worth the risk of them having a bolt.

  • posted a message on Skullcrack vs Gray Merchant
The answer to your clarified question is no it doesn't work. Regeneration means that the next time a creature would die you instead tap it and remove all damage marked on it. There is no damage prevention going on. So the net result of that scenario would be just a tapped Asphodel Wander that if it were to die somehow that turn its controller would take 3 damage.

Edit: I should clarify that regeneration is only if the creature would die to damage or an effect that says destroy. It won't get involved with sacrifice or dying to having 0 or less toughness.

When you respond to something your effect will resolve before what you are responding to. In this case Skullcrack resolves and prevents all lifegain. Then Gray Merchant resolves and enters the battlefield. Then his etb ability will trigger and resolve, but since he cant gain life only the damage loss part will occur.
Regeneration doesn't prevent damage so it doesn't interact with Skullcrack at all.

Well my plan against bogles is to just not play against it. I don't think it's worth the SB-slots.
    [/quote]

Didn't I play against you in a daily event a couple days ago with bogles? But yeah it's really not worth the sideboard slots. Engineered Explosives/Ray of Revelation can be powerful, but unless you are willing to give up at least 3 SB slots to a decks playing at maybe 2% of the meta it's better to just try and get around them.

You can send it back to the command zone. Commanderness is a quality of the card itself and so will be able to be applied no matter what it is when destroyed.

Agreed that Obstinacy isn't worth slotting in, but it was still worth taking a look at. Rhetoric is just another piece for storm. I'd never bring in any of the one per turn against Affinity since by the time it drops they've already flooded the field.

The only real upside to Rhetoric is that you can suit it up and maybe that's not good enough in a deck like this over rule of law. I'm just really not a fan of Grafdiggers Cage and Leyline of Sanctity against storm. Between Engineered Explosives and Echoing Truth I prefer to bring in 2 Rule of Law, 2 Path to Exile, 2 Nature's Claim for 2 Suppression Field, 2 Kor Spiritdancer, 2 Unflinching Courage.

Just recently I picked up Bogles online as a budget sort of deck (I already had the Coronets/Horizon Canopy and skipped the Fetchlands)and have had a good amount of success with it. Is there anything anyone plans to change up with the release of Journey into Nyx. The only ones I've seen worth actually looking at are Eidolon of Rhetoric, Mortal Obstinacy, Basara Tower Archer, Eidolon of Blossoms, and Reviving Melody. Basara is another 2 mana hexproof, but Ledgewalker is probably still better. Eidolon of Blossoms makes all our enchants into cantrips, but at 4 mana is probably just too expenive/easy to kill. Reviving Melody is worth considering for reconstruction purposes, but it seems like a dead card too often.
The two I'm actually considering are Mortal Obstinacy and Eidolon of Rhetoric both as sideboard cards. Obstinacy allows you to have a 1 mana aura that allows you to take care of any problematic enchantments. I'm not sure if it's really good enough to replace say Nature's Claim in the SB though. Eidolon of Rhetoric is getting slotted in immediately. I've never liked Cannonist having only 2 toughness since that risked it dying to a bolt/pyroclasm and I didn't like Rule of Law not being able to get suited up in a pinch. This way we get the best of both worlds.

    Anyone have any other thoughts?

1)Yes. Each Soul Warden counts as a separate instance of lifegain for each creature that enters the battlefield. If you played Spectral Procession with two Soul Warden and an Ajani's Pridemate out you would get 6 counters on the Pridemate.

2)Yes. Ajani's triggered ability will work anytime you gain life while he is on the field. Since he has to enter the field to trigger Soul Warden you get the counter.

3)Soul Warden enters and triggers Chamber. Chamber resolves giving you a token. The token triggers Soul Warden and you gain 1 life.

4)The Norin in play triggers and exiles itself. The new Norin enters the battlefield and triggers Soul Warden which triggers Pridemate. At end of turn the original Norin comes back and triggers Soul Warden then you choose which Norin to keep (this is before the Soul Warden trigger resolves). Then the Warden trigger resolves giving you a life and then Ajani triggers getting you a counter.

Change it to "Pay 2 life" and we might have a deal. I also like the "or less" clause, since it makes Affinity's Mox Opal nut draws less of a pain.

Here's a nerfed Entomb to give Reanimator more of a shot:

    Tutor of the Damned B
    Sorcery
Search your library for a card, then reveal it. Target opponent may have you put that card into your hand. If not, put it into your graveyard. Then shuffle your library.

It doesn't seem too great for reanimator in general honestly since it would almost always just go the hand. Where it would really shine is in a loam deck or if Sword of the Meek were to ever be unbanned.
