  • posted a message on Savra - Blood Artist - Sacrificing - Timing?
When you sacrifice Blood Artist and Reaper they will immediately be placed into the graveyard and then any triggers resulting from their deaths will be placed onto the stack. That means that for every creature that died at the same time as Blood Artist you will get a trigger (so 6 total, 2 from each player) and you will get 3 triggers from Savra (Reaper will trigger both abilities and artist just the black one). You may choose to resolve these in any order you wish, but after this point your Blood Artist is not on the field and so will not trigger from any more creatures dying.

He makes mistakes reasonably often. I imagine it's easier to do when you have 10 different versions of a card in your head.

  • posted a message on Progenitor Mimic and Haunted Plate Mail
You will get a Haunted Plate Mail token. When a card references itself by a type (Make a token of this creature) it really means "Make a token of this permanent". It is worded the other way on cards mainly for readability reasons. So in this scenario at the beginning of your upkeep every turn you would get a token copy of whatever Progenitor Mimic happens to be at that moment.

Oh man, another guy quoting each section of my post and trying to logic 101 me, all the while missing the point. Lord Seth, I'll respond when I have time.
Not sure what "point" I'm missing, but I'm unsure what your issue with someone quoting each section of your message is. After all, it ensures that I respond to each portion in turn. If you did not wish that, then why did you write up such a lengthy post that would require such a manner of reply to properly respond to?

Your answer was a complete knee-jerk response that made no attempt to see it from his point of view. You pretty much said "Yea these cards do unfair things but that's why they're good! Deal!" that isn't really as productive as at least raising and issue for discussion as avasatu did. I don't even necessarily agree with him, but your post deserves to be called out for what it is.

What argument? His argument was "Zoo is the best at aggro so if it isn't doing well then aggro is bad. Fae is the best at tempo so if it is doing bad then tempo is bad." I'm not sure why he thinks those decks should be the best, but we have aggro (Affinity) and tempo (delver) doing well at the moment. That's not even to count the fact that most of the combo decks either don't combo out most of the time (Melira Pod) or can be interacted with using any creature removal (Pod/Twin).

Something to help Esper/Dega control strategies:

    Carnage WBU/R mana
    Sorcery
    Destroy all creatures.

The problem is that this doesn't seem very blue or red as a card.

Maybe not so much mechanically (although some could argue that red has cards like Obliterate and creature sweepers like Anger of the Gods, and blue can wrath when combined with white), but that could be made up for, thematically. The idea is that this card is all colors except for green, which is the color that can destroy all permanents except for creatures. So in that sense, it's sort of like an anti-green card, rather than a WUBR card. I also suspect that the card would be too strong at 1BW, hence the harder mana cost. You still need White & Black to cast it, which fits mechanically.

You could do BW HybridBW as the mana cost.

I like Mirror Entity as a 3 of. It will be good a lot of the time and in particular with Aether Vial it can be devastating. Ticking up to three on vial dropping this then making your lords a base 4/4 can take someone from twenty to dead real quick.

Also, for a Sliver That's Decent On Its Own, I'd consider Chameleon Colossus. In fact, there's a bunch of cards with Changeling that might be pretty strong in Slivers.

Chameleon Colossus is pretty good. The 4 CMC isn't too high, but it suffers from not really doing anything the turn he drops (barring Blur Sliver). The only other changeling creature I really found worth using was Mirror Entity. The problem with the others is they doing do anything to help the other slivers.

It does lose protection until end of turn. The question here is if when he regains the ability does it still reference the same choice made in naming. The answer there is yes.

    1. Sweet, that helps me decide upon one thing at least.

    2. I can see why that wouldn't be the case, but I can't help but to admit I'm kind of disappointed.

All it says is "Return unblocked creature to hand", I'm assuming that should read "Owners hand"?

The card itself doesn't read that way, but it means it. If you tried to return a creature you had control of via Mind Control for instance the card would go to your opponent's hand because anytime a card would go to any zone but the battlefield it will always go to its owners version of that as a replacement effect.

Correct. The three tokens all ETB at the same time so you can choose which order they resolve in. If you choose to resolve them with the 2/2 first and the 4/4 last then your experiment one will get 3 counters total.

The deck itself is pretty solid. At its core the deck is just disruption and value which will get you pretty far in and of itself. Personally I'm not a huge fan of Isochron Scepter since it can lead to easy 2 for 1's, but with enough hand attack you can probably get around it. Depending on your budget the deck can use a few tweaks with the biggest one being to change the two swords of body and mind. Fire and Ice is the best option, but somewhat expensive. War and Peace is decently budget and makes any tokens or Mirran crusader a threat. Batterskull is the sort of in between option and is better than War/Peace, but worse and cheaper than Fire/Ice

I really, really want Polymorphist's Jest to be a thing. In everything.

I like the flavor. Any deck with black would probably pick Sudden Spoiling first though. Such a great anti-true name card.

if you use vampire hexmage on Lost Auramancers it should allow you to put any enchantment into the battlefield.

being a white black combo i can't help but think this would already be a viable deck of some sort. only thing that eludes me is what enchantment do you use for a kill condition?
Maybe my rule understanding is wrong, but if you use Vampire Hexmage on Lost Auramancers, don't you then have to find a way to kill the Auramancers? Because the "when the last is removed, sacrifice it" seems to be part of the triggered upkeep ability, and if there's already zero counters on it, it won't remove any, and thus won't die during the upkeep.

It doesn't come up too often, but Vanishing is actually a couple separate abilities stapled together into one keyword. Basically every sentence is a separate ability so the card should really read:

This permanent comes into play with X time counters on it.

At the beginning of your upkeep...

When the last time counter is removed from Lost Auramancers, sacrifice it.

They just combined it for brevity's sake.

  • posted a message on Going infinite with Hellcarver Demon
If you can prove a loop and specify the exact conditions after a specific number of iterations then you can shortcut the process. If you get down to 6 cards left and exile them all at once you can explain how the loop works and deal infinite damage. Note that because you cannot have conditional logic in an infinite loop scenario having 7+ cards would make it so you couldn't do it. You also cannot shortcut to the point where you only have those 6 cards because you cannot say how long it will actually take to get to that point.

Is "a blue Frog with base power and toughness 1/1" some kind of new attempt at clarifying "a 1/1 blue Frog"? (Compare to eg. Snakeform.)

Pretty much. It's a way to try and make it so people know that only base power and toughness changes so effects like giant growth still apply.
