Oh man, only Strip Mine, Dig and Cruise banned? That seems very loose. Baral/Tasiguir will be driving people away from the leagues and the whole format for the next 2-4 weeks. Frown

July 5th will be the big change, this is a good temporary change.

I sure look forward to waiting 2+ years for a bad format to adapt when we alreasy have a good and healthy format. Not to mention we still don't know if "Magic Digital Next" is or isn't a new software and if it is, wether or not it will support everything MODO supports.

The format's already better than DC and has evolved to have 5-7 decks. Not sure what you want except to see blue nerfed.

Very cool to see Selvala and Radha. I wonder if anyone's scraped MODO data for a more complete list of 5-0s.

Vial Kraum and Azusa make their first appearance today along with another for Sidisi.

It seems like there's probably 6-8 viable generals, that seems like a pretty decent meta for 5-0s. I know there are people with trophies with different generals as well along with a host of 4-1s that we can't see. Sultai is clearly the strongest color combo, but I doubt it can choke everything else out like a lot of people here thought it and Oloro would. The MTGO hivemind probably evolved past anything the DC community ever did with 30 life in a few days considering the size and quality of it.

They'll just go up daily along with the other leagues and Vintage Dailies. League lists should be better than anything paper could generate in a week or so due to the rapid advancements made online.

So just to parse it out:

    2 Leovold
    1 Jace
    1 Gitrog
    1 Breya
    1 Narset
    1 Prossh
    1 Nissa
    1 Zurgo
    1 Sidisi

No Oloro, Tasi or Vial. I always though Leovold had a lot of potential but never realized it could eclipse Tasigur as the BUG commander of choice. Weird how Oloro isn't there. I really thought the deck was pretty good. Maybe the card disadvantage is too much.

I think that's a really good point, is trading an extra card you can always have worth 2 life a turn compared to everyone else? Or trying to get to 6 mana then paying 1 a turn to generate real CA. Outside of Zurgo, 2 life a turn seems really irrelevant.

Well I have to admit that seeing Zurgo and Gitrog gives me a fair bit of hope for 30 life. Otherwise it looks like what I expected. Lots of Green Tempo and Blue Control. The former two don't really fit into that mold though so that's certainly something to be praised. Let's hope it stays this way.

Mmm, I wouldn't call Sidisi much of a green tempo or blue control deck either. We'll see if it holds out, as there are going to be lots and lots more games than ever played of DC within a few weeks.

First league results are up and they're all Oloro and Tasigur, just like everyone thought.

I mean, recently I saw a print from spastika where he was playing against VSL's Rachel Agnes. I have no idea if Rachel played 1x1 Commander before, but she's surely playing it now. Isn't that GREAT?

Who tf is rachel w/e and why should I care? Wtf is a VSL?

Vintage Super League, she was a competitor. Her stream and VSL are two things that are probably an order of magnitude more popular than Duel Commander.

The top8 may be diverse but if you look at the metagame of the latest Demonic Tournament (190 player I think) you have:
    27 Zurgo, 17 Geist, 14 Baral, 13 Bruse Tarl & Reyhan. Then 8 Tymna & Thrasios 6 Titania, 6 Jace, 5 Radha and a bunch of 1/2-of.
    Basically, aggro and Blue.

Have you played Modern? You would think Burn is unbeatable there by the numbers it shows up in. But while it's "Tier 1" it's been a very long while since it won anything.
Zurgo is not "everywhere" because it's unbeatable, it's "everywhere" because it's stupidly cheap. In fact if you swap Titania and Radha for the partners decks in that list, it's pretty much inverselly proportional to deck cost with Geist as the only outlier.
It doesn't matter how many Zurgos play, what matters is that other decks have a chance to win. I bet if we make a WotC list tournament with a single optimal Oloro, a single optimal Narset, a single optimal Vial/Kraum, a single optimal Jace, a single optimal Baral, a single optimal Maelstrom Wanderer and a single optimal Tasigur plus 500 rougue decks, the top 8 will be among the decks I just listed.

Pretty sure non WotC 1v1 formats are dead, unless you want to play French where there will be bannings every quarter and with 20 life instead of a regular 20 life constructed format.

I don't get this sentence, you seem to be describing DC as doing something wrong unlike regular constructed formats, but what you describe is done in regular constructed formats and considered possitive in all but Standard.

Then what would be the point of being EDH if it's just a bad version of most formats? There's Modern if you want low interactivity and blue cards banned into oblivion.

Well, if you want to use Wizards 1vs1 bandlist for paper games, you have to ban ante cards, dexterity cards and special cards (like the conspiracies) too.

Yeah....I don't think that's ever going to be an issue.

Banning blue cards is not the answer, taking away the 10lp cushion counters and cantrips were never designed to work with is.
And again, 30lp may let you make more non-competitive funbrews and not worry so much about other underpowered decks. But the proof of what format is better is in the ammount of different decks in top8s, from the las 5 tournaments I could find results in either format:

DC: Vial+Kraum, Baral, Reyhan+Bruse, Akiri+Bruse, Geist, Thrasios+Vial, Breya, Gitrog, Nissa, Atraxa, Keranos, Zurgo, Nin, Jace, Titania, Clique, GAAIV.
Leviathan: Vial+Kraum, Maelstrom Wanderer, Narset, Titania, Geist, Jace/Teferi High Tide, Baral.

Even before the Vial&Breya ban, DC has had way more decks in the competition. And by the way, Leviathan has Necrotic Ooze, Yisan and Marath unbanned from the start but they still don't show up. Which makes me even more unwilling to believe the problem with the format's stagnation is the card pool, the problem is glaringly obvious: 30lp.
What good is a format that pretends to be diverse, if none of the diverse decks has any hopes of winning or even making tops?

As fsecco said, Leviathan is dead. The new deal is DC if you want a competitive experience with archetype variety, or WotC if you want to fool around with the most busted Oloro list ever played in non-RC banlist 1v1. Which may be a lot of fun, but isn't what I want to ever end up having to do if I want to win in a 1v1 competitive setting.

Pretty sure non WotC 1v1 formats are dead, unless you want to play French where there will be bannings every quarter and with 20 life instead of a regular 20 life constructed format.
