Diablo would be cool for a crossover.

Could you imagine the boost the game would get if they did Warcraft? They could literally put Stormrage and a bunch of Murloc tokens and it would be their best-selling lair yet :p

I mean, it makes perfect sense that you haven't been much exposed to the verbal abuse being slung about by people who are irrationally upset by this SL. All of the bullying has been pretty focused and one-sided. I made the mistake of posting a supportive comment on one of the Facebook ads, and the replies jumped immediately to homophobic slurs and ad hominem. As nasty as people have been here, social media is much worse. I can only imagine the toxicity and death threats that WotC and the RC have been getting. If Jimmy is rattled by the ***** being slung his way, it has to be a thousand times worse for them. The mob has so much free time and so little perspective or human empathy O.o

The reality is that, while there was always a very small contingent of people legitimately upset about 'immersion breaking,' the vast majority of people are just using it as an additional excuse to complain when someone refutes their arguments about why this product is bad and evil.

I guarantee that if YouTubers like Brian and Mitch didn't irresponsibly abuse their platforms to start a knee-jerk sky-is-falling *****-fest, we wouldn't still be talking about this product. Mitch literally attempted to undermine the integrity of the format by actively trying to splinter people off into a sub-format out of pure petulance, so you can tell how much people like him really care about the format, and Brian has always been trying to peel people off into other games because deep down he hates Magic (counter to what he always melodramatically claims in his complaint videos).

Was hoping they'd snag Embercleave in the process of cleaning house. Really tired of red getting to say 'oops, I win!' and the ramp deck was refreshing for a while.

Just to chime in on the 'Magic is dying' bit: No. Magic is doing great. They literally cannot get enough product to us fast enough. We couldn't fill all of our Jumpstart or Zendikar Rising preorders because distributors shorted us on our shipments due to demand wildly outstripping supply. I get a fatpack from every new set and I can't even find one right now.

Is it doing as well as it was prior to Covid? Of course not, this is a global pandemic and overall spending on luxury items is down. It is by no means in danger though.

Yeah I took a look at the video Vince put up. He played against garbage and got lucky. I assume the 5-0 was a similar situation. Humans have been fringe in Legacy at best, and a 4cmc lord doesn't suddenly make the deck dominant. Also keep in mind that in both cases the players jammed almost the entire contents of the box into their decks specifically to 'prove' that they're all busted and justify the outrage. How many decks like this failed miserably in the same time-frame?

If you look at Greg Orange's screenshots, he was very much trying to spark outrage.

I will however admit that Rick is apparently playable in Legacy, but he's definitely not good, and the rest of them are straight trash. People will stop running Engineered Plague in favor of something better, and he'll stop going in decks pretty quickly. The net effect of this Secret Lair on Legacy will be that black decks don't auto-win against humans in games 2 and 3.

The asking price for the cards is hilarious though, all of the idiots who bought in hard as a speculation bet are going to get absolutely hosed on this. There's too much hype around it and that means there will be too many copies on the market, which will dramatically outstrip demand in the longrun. I do sealed product speculation with some regularity and I'm not touching this one with a 1000-foot pole. Got one for personal use, one to part out for friends, and I'm done.

While TWD crossover does nothing for me, I don't mind them. I'd rather they be silver border or reprinted soon after in a regular set as non-crossed over cards.

That said, I'm a sucker for Castlevania, so if you get me Alucard, Trevor, Sypha, Dracula, etc. I'm a happy camper. Would love to make Castlevania EDH decks.

Gimme Richter and I'll be SO obnoxious by saying his name in the Smash Bros. announcer voice every time.

I honestly hope this entire thing was constructed to push a certain entitled segment of the playerbase out of the game.

While that would be dreamy, it would be suicide for WotC. My friends and I are discussing this in group chat, and we've all realized that Magic is in contention for the most toxic playerbase in gaming. And we say that knowing Smash has a pedophile problem and 40k has a Nazi problem.

I don't even think it would be suicide. The worst Magic players don't even buy sealed product in the first place. They just cry about it, then buy it off of the people who actually give Wizards their money

You're... not even wrong. We actually touched on how people are anywhere from wildly loyal to blindly in love with certain secondary-market retailers who exist to sell singles at a markup, but HOW DARE WotC ever do anything to make a dollar, when they're the ones making the game :/

The conspiracies in this thread really take the crown

It really tells you something about where all the anger surrounding this product comes from and how valid it is :/

I still have not seen a single justifiable reason for banning them. Being cringe isn't really a valid reason. Ruining the format is a pretty bold claim.

In their defense, the existence of this Secret Lair has led multiple content creators to behave wildly irresponsibly with their platforms (in particular Brian and Mitch) and potentially do serious damage to some EDH communities with their hyperbole and petulance. That 'Captain' format is some W I L D 'take my ball and go home' *****. Funny that the people claiming to care about the format are the ones trying to tear it apart lol.

This is like a huge gentrifying moment. It's like when Grunge hit top of the Pops. It became something that was a mockery of itself and it had to die.

I can see this point of view, sure. I definitely don't agree that its a problem but I can see it.

So far i could buy basically all the singles i am interested in for each set for just around 50 bucks , even foils, Magic was never cheaper as its now, if you dodge and avoid all the fancy "expensive" special products that nobody really needs anyway

I think it is important to highlight this. All of the whale-hunting and niche-filling they're doing makes the game DRAMATICALLY less expensive for the average player. The average player wins. The whales win(?). Those niche players win. WotC wins.

I think people are completely overreacting here.

That's really the long-and-short of all of this.

People have too much free time on their hands right now so they spend it all screeching about things that don't really matter instead of using that energy doing something useful.

For an apples to apples comparison, there are people on YouTube having complete mental breakdowns about Steve making it into Smash, proclaiming that the game is dead and that if you're happy about it you're a bad person. Un-*******-real. Meanwhile the community reaction in general has been so wholesome and delightful. How are we more toxic than the Smash community? The one where the pedophiles hang out?

Like, have y'all never experienced any sort of strife before? Just because a company produces a product that you don't like doesn't mean the world is ending. SMDH, I'm out here working my butt off every day, protesting injustice in the streets when I have time, there's a constant stream of news about more murder and disease, and every day now I'm coming home to read hyperbolic melodrama about Magic being dead. Its like watching the Kardashians these people are so out of touch with reality.

Magic is fine. Commander/EDH is fine. Everybody breath. It is ok to not like something. The world doesn't end when you don't like something.

(That said, I don't really hate the idea of taking the format away from the RC but that's an unrelated matter lolol)
