I'm always confused by the way people who hate every new card that comes out use the phrase 'no one asked for this' and its permutations. Like, are we only OK with them printing exactly the cards we tell them to? What's the logic there? And what cards does the format 'need?' Is this just a vote for 'no change?' I think that's pretty boring, and would definitionally result in the death of the game.

FWIW I'm happy this card exists, because it is kind of exciting in the right build but definitely not going to break anything realistically. Powerful new cards that take a little work to make happen get the motor running. Lotus is absolutely not correct in every build, which is exactly the mistake in card evaluation that is driving the presale price into completely untenable territory, but it'll be awesome in the decks that want it if it is drawn early.

More and more it feels like maybe I'm the crazy one for enjoying the game and getting hyped for new cards.

Yeah, its situationally broken but pretty tame on average. I'm going to jam a copy in my Najeela and Korvold decks because they're conducive to abusing it, but other than that my other decks dgaf.

Sol Ring is a better card.

I mean, it makes perfect sense that you haven't been much exposed to the verbal abuse being slung about by people who are irrationally upset by this SL. All of the bullying has been pretty focused and one-sided. I made the mistake of posting a supportive comment on one of the Facebook ads, and the replies jumped immediately to homophobic slurs and ad hominem. As nasty as people have been here, social media is much worse. I can only imagine the toxicity and death threats that WotC and the RC have been getting. If Jimmy is rattled by the ***** being slung his way, it has to be a thousand times worse for them. The mob has so much free time and so little perspective or human empathy O.o

Just to chime in on the 'Magic is dying' bit: No. Magic is doing great. They literally cannot get enough product to us fast enough. We couldn't fill all of our Jumpstart or Zendikar Rising preorders because distributors shorted us on our shipments due to demand wildly outstripping supply. I get a fatpack from every new set and I can't even find one right now.

Is it doing as well as it was prior to Covid? Of course not, this is a global pandemic and overall spending on luxury items is down. It is by no means in danger though.

While TWD crossover does nothing for me, I don't mind them. I'd rather they be silver border or reprinted soon after in a regular set as non-crossed over cards.

That said, I'm a sucker for Castlevania, so if you get me Alucard, Trevor, Sypha, Dracula, etc. I'm a happy camper. Would love to make Castlevania EDH decks.

Gimme Richter and I'll be SO obnoxious by saying his name in the Smash Bros. announcer voice every time.

So far i could buy basically all the singles i am interested in for each set for just around 50 bucks , even foils, Magic was never cheaper as its now, if you dodge and avoid all the fancy "expensive" special products that nobody really needs anyway

I think it is important to highlight this. All of the whale-hunting and niche-filling they're doing makes the game DRAMATICALLY less expensive for the average player. The average player wins. The whales win(?). Those niche players win. WotC wins.

Nah I'ma buy whatever crossovers tickle my fancy and encourage everyone I know to do the same, because I love Magic and want to see WotC succeed. These crossovers ain't hurtin' anybody, and to say otherwise is churlish.

Believe it or not, the best way to ensure that Magic survives is to give WotC your money when they do something good, not screech at them like entitled lunatics on social media as if they're killing babies when they make something that doesn't excite you.

    Wild concept, I know OMG

I want the tokens, but nothing else.

Yeah those tokens are siiiiiiiick Grin I'm probably giving the characters away to friends, keeping Lucille because that ***** is hilarious, and only really using the tokens.

    Want my advice?

    No, not really.

I'm a Vorthos player. I play the game but I consume mostly because I enjoy exploring the themes, characters and setting. The lack of these being just "skins" and the fact that they are not silver-border, and therefore optional, bothers me greatly. These factors, as well as the FOMO, limited distribution, and response to the problem by WotC is all just too much. I've been slowly buying less MtG in recent years and the release of this product will only make my consumption even less limited.

Fellow EDH players beware: if you play with these cards I will consider it my personal mission to knock you out *of the game, even if I have to go down in flames along with you. There shall be no Quarto.

"This product doesn't appeal to me, therefore I will bully anyone who enjoys it."

Thanks for succinctly summing up your side's entire argument.

'A certain amount of overreaction' is a ridiculous understatement. Have you SEEN that petulant, churlish, melodramatic video put out by TCC that folks are pointing to and agreeing with?

The folks at WotC are good people. They want to make the game fun for everyone and nerds demonstrably LOVE when you mash up their favorite things, so of course they jumped at the chance to put two and two together. This was supposed to be a nice surprise for everyone who loves TWD or zombies, and they even made absolutely sure that the cards weren't anywhere near broken to keep the whiners from mewling, but no, we have to ***** all over their hard work for no legitimate reason. God forbid they try to make money as a business while doing cool things for us.
