I was thinking about infinite combos today and I wondered if there was a simple infinite with Emrakul, the Aeons Torn because of the extra turn. Provided that you have enough mana, could you just cast Emrakul and then bounce him using Crystal Shard? Then, once your mana untaps on your extra turn, replay Emrakul and go infinite. I haven't seen this combo mentioned elsewhere, which makes me wonder if it could actually work.
Yes it give you infinite turns. Legacy decks like 12post and Enchantress does this with Karakas instead
Rumor of reserve list cards being printed in this.
Hearing something about the new CEO willing to go nice and deep with better reprints.
RL cards can't be in anything with a limited print run, because it'll do nothing to solve the problem. It'll caused more problems when packs go for $30+ a pop and no seal happens ever.
I can see the combo being Plan B in a UR tempo shell. Loaded up with 4x Snap 4xDual 2-3x Cackling and the usual UR good stuff and go from there. It's not a combo for a deck to commit to because it's not that good.
The
Today, when I read MaRo's column wherein he once again stated that Desert--yes, Desert--is too strong for standard (he used "harsh and unforgiving" this time)
Yeah this is stupid. The deck needed a ban for sure, but this is no way to do it, you don't announce no ban, have the cards spike when people buy in and then ban it. Confidence in WOTC is no doubt at a all time low.
Miracles was not healthy and Countertop was at a similar powerlevel of Oath/Survival before they got banned. I do believe Top should had been ban when Burn started to use Top. I started to used top in burn 2 years ago.
Having played when Survival was legal (shortly before its ban) and having played consistently since, no it was not. Not even close. Survival was banned because top8's started packing 24+ copies of it, Survival decks started winning event after event without fail, and the best decks in the format were *all* variants of Survival. You had Vengevine Survival, Survivelves, Retainers Survival, Necrotic Ooze Survival, Maverick Surival, etc. Miracles' prominence was nowhere near that, and while Sensei's Top showed up a little in other decks, they're mostly fringe decks like 12post, Painter, Nic Fit, or a random one-of in an ANT list or similar. For your talk of Top in Burn, of the top-32ing lists from the past 2 months, a single list runs a single Top, so I'm calling BS on that being a determining factor.
Sure Surival/Oath/Countertop are not equals. I'm not and never was saying they were equals. I'm talking about the powerlevel in the current format.
Also the card ban is Sensei's Divining Top and the ban seemed to hit other decks besides counterbalance/miracles. The presence of top in legacy was similar to the presence of Mental Misstep.
Sucks yes... but if it was ok to ban Mental Misstep because of numbers than I don't see anything stopping a Sensei's Divining Top ban.
Top presence wasn't close to the presence of mental misstep.
Really shocked nothing was hit in standard. I don't think I agree with their logic tbh, they'll be praying it works out or they will look very stupid when the pro tour is just a sea of mardu and copycat.
I had not expected any changes in modern but I think with the dominance of the current decks something like stoneforge or preordain could help power up other decks.
I think top has needed to go for a long time in legacy but that they finally did act on it is surprising. There's quite a few decks that had used it so legacy is about to have a serious shake up which after so many years of miracles domination can't be a bad thing.
Most excited for vintage. Based on what the pros on VSL have said, restricting those cards should open up more deck options without making workshops a lot better. I hope they're right.
CounterBalance would have been a much better ban...Top banned means decks like 12-post, Doomsday, Welder, ANT etc all took a bullet meant for Miracles. Not to mention you're basically cut off the best card filtering for any sort of non blue/rogue decks.
I think that is a feature, not a bug - Top is played in a lot of Tier 1 and Tier 2 decks, including the "Best Deck" of the format. It is a card that dramatically increases consistency while dramatically decreasing play speed. That's a whole lot of stuff WotC tends to not like in a format, particularly when it has fueled a metagame that is mostly shifting but generally solidified in its Tier 1 for a year plus.
I def get what you're saying. I 100% believe that a deck having 50%+ win rate against the field was busted and needed a nerf. However, the rest of the decks hardly needed such a huge nerf. With decks like Doomsday essentially dead. The slow play argument also really only applies to Miracles, as I personally rarely see other decks with top in them go to time like Miracles does. Most of these decks have a critical turn or critical amount of resource/cards they try to resolve, and win from that, Miracle can durdle all day because it doesn't have a guaranteed win after it reaches a certain point in game.
However it's too late now, we'll have to see what decks (elves) rise to the top with this ban. The ban also rubs me the wrong way with how WOTC's being doing things. You're gonna basically pull all tournament support from Legacy, then turn around and destroy a bunch of players decks? For what?

There's no way the card is worth putting in 4 of dead cards like Wild Cantor/Blood Pet. I can see this as delver 5-8 in UB tempo deck that's high on removal.

If it's fun to play with, but unfun to play against, doesn't the fun even out?

Is this WOTC's attempt at killing Legacy? So many decks gets hurt by this....
