Jun 27, 2017!KAMELEON! posted a message on [[Official]] The "I Need Help Deciding What To Play!" Thread.Looking to get into Standard. I have nothing of the current standard rotation as I only played Modern and haven't played any Modern in over a year. I usually play mid range and control, I played UR Storm for fun also. I'm looking at the current decks and I'm not too sure which ones will get hit hard by the next rotation, which I believe is September(correct me if I'm wrong). Any help is appreciated, any links or pointing me in the right direction is a plus.Posted in: Standard (Type 2)
May 22, 2015Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)Quote from Nabbydian »We ever discussed earlier about forming a UWB Esper Knights, utilising cards such as Forbidden Alchemy, Haakon, Stromgald Scourge and the U knight - Court Hussar. Since Knights is generally a mid-range aggro deck, I think there is a good chance this concept might be workable, especially since we can afford to have a more fragile manabase in Modern compared to Legacy. We can also tap on lifelink from Knights of Meadowgrain to set ourself up for the Hakkon recursion engine.
Below is a preliminary list which I have come out with, might looks a little haphazard (I don't know why whenever I see Forbidden Alchemy it feels like seeing Standard's Solar Flare deck.
If it's good I'll add it into the primer.
UWBHaakon's Forbidden AlchemyUWB
Haakon's Forbidden AlchemyMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Creatures
4 Court Hussar
3 Haakon, Stromgald Scourge
4 Knight Exemplar
4 Knight of Meadowgrain
1 Mirran Crusader
1 Paladin en-Vec
1 Stillmoon Cavalier
1 Stromgald Crusader
3 Student of Warfare
4 Forbidden Alchemy
4 Inquisition of Kozilek
2 Nameless Inversion
3 Oblivion Ring
3 Path to Exile
2 Godless Shrine
2 Hallowed Fountain
2 Watery Grave
4 Marsh Flats
1 Scalding Tarn
1 Verdant Catacombs
Haakon, Stromgald Scourge - the darth knight lord. The Haakon Recursion engine. Works totally insane with Knights and Namesless Inversion. 3 is enough since we have a full playset of Forbidden Alchemy to dig for him. And that's not even counting the flashback.
Court Hussar - Helps to dig for Forbidden Alchemy, does card filtering and also provide another card advantage as a one for one. Can also be part of the recursion engine with Haakon as a knight. Recursion with Haakon wil generate insane card advantage and card quality.
Forbidden Alchemy - I didn't know Haakon was an alchemist. By casting it, we can keep the card we need in our hand while throwing all the knights into the graveyard(including Haakon) and soon we'll start casting everything from the graveyard YEAH!!!
Mirran Crusader, Paladin en-Vec, Stillmoon Cavalier, Stromgald Crusader - the singleton knights are there so that we can choose the most relevant knights to cast when Haakon is in play. Forbidden Alchemy and Court Hussar will filter for us the appropriate knights either to cast from hand or throw into the graveyard).
Knight of Meadowgrain - Life is a premium here, with the shocks and fetches pinging us. We also need time to setup the Haakon Recursion engine - not to mention Haakon dying will cost us 2 life point everytime he hits the graveyard from the battlefield.
The Manabase looks scary. Definitely need to playtest to find the right mix here.
What can we do about graveyard hate?
Mainboard there is Oblivion Ring, Sideboard either Pitching Needle or Phyrexian Revoker as usual.
How to protect Haakon from exile spells?
We can use protection spells such as Faith's Shield or Emerge Unscathed. Otherwise the ever dependable Knight Exemplar can always bait for exile spells.
With the new fetches, the mana base should be a lot smoother. I would like to see this Esper Knight build with Æther Vial, most of your knights cost 3 plus you don't have to always cast Haakon from the graveyard.
Feb 22, 2015This EDH/Commander deck is a work in progress. My General is Teysa, Orzhov Scion as she fits the colors I want, she's cheap and if all else fails I can always use her abilities. She the General until WotC designs a B/W Legendary Cleric. This is a Tribal deck. I've collected every Cleric that has been printed(currently looking for foils/promos of clerics).Posted in: Casual Primers
Essentially, you prevent damage and gain life throughout the game. You can overwhelm your opponent with creatures or bleed them out. Commander is a fun format if your playgroup will allow it, we all know what cards/decks are hated in the format. Just shy away from them and have fun. Any
thoughts or suggestion are welcomed.
Jun 25, 2014Posted in: Modern Archives - ProvenQuote from Eichhorn »From my experience with the deck the best thing to do against grave-hate is to board into the empty the warrens-plan and make 10+ goblins fast. If that is not an option or you should bring in echoing truths against Rest in Peace and Relic. With Relic on the Table charging up an acsension and going of that way is also a viable option. Against RIP you can sculpt your hand, bounce the RIP at the end of thier turn and just go for it, usally the stuff you go trough on one big turn is enough to combo off. Against Relic you can do the same by forcing them to crack it EOT.
The best plan is a quick horde of gobos tough, especially when your opponent is expecting grapeshot as your win-con.
So true. If i'm playing against someone and I know they will have graveyard hate in game 2, I just board in Lighting Bolt and Empty the Warren, horde of goblins and burn to the face. Most of the time they sit there and wonder what just happened. Especially with Rest in Peace in play.
Mar 30, 2014Posted in: Modern Archives - ProvenQuote from sorcuttRules question. Sorry in advance if this has been posted before, I did an extensive search and couldn't find an answer.
I have an active Pyromancer's Ascension in play with 2 counters. My opponent casts Chalice of the Void set at either 1. I play something like Serum Visions. The original copy gets countered, does the 2nd copy resolve with no CMC or does it retain a CMC of 1 and get countered also. Thank you!
If Chalice of the Void is set to 1, the Serum Visions you cast will be countered but not the copy from Pyromancer Ascension. The key word is "cast." The copy is not being cast, it simply appears on the stack.
Mar 18, 2014Posted in: Modern Archives - ProvenQuote from BilliondegreeI played the deck the other day but didn't have any fetchlands so my mana base crapped out on me. I needed red mana and drew only islands.
Guess I should be maxing out on the shivan reefs and steam vents instead. Or if we could only get the UR fastland that would be perfect
Max out Shivan Reef and Steam Vents but if you can get your hands on the fetchlands, even if it's not Scalding Tarn but maybe the ones that share a single color, it does help. Wizards need a reprint of fetchlands, all of them, including Onslaught fetches.

I dropped Peer Through Depths, don't get me wrong it's a great card but doesn't allow me to grab anything other than an instant or sorcery. I'm currently running a mix of Desperate Ravings, Thought Scour, and Faithless Looting.
Mar 11, 2014I would have taken Skullclamp and Chainer's Edict also. Skullclamp is so good imo. Sol Ring is really good and so is Swords to Plowshares, I assume he was going with a token theme which would make Skullclamp put in work.Posted in: Retired Clan Threads

Feb 3, 2014My favorite card is Scion of Darkness it was the first rare that I ever got from a booster pack. I immediately started to work on a deck with him in it. He's big and can fetch more creatures for me to win with plus if you build around him, he can be cheated into play.Posted in: Announcements
