You should play dreadbore over terminate IMO. Id play 1 Dreadbore 1 Magmatic since you have no delve over Terminate. Pwers are a big issue so you want a good 1-2 mana answer

Anyone try a BUGvine list? Probably not ideal until Hogaak and looting are banned.

But if they are you have Hedron Crab/Supplier as great 1 drops to fill the gy as a base.

Funny you should suggest that, because I've been testing exactly that the last couple days:

Kess has been an absolute bomb with this kind of discard-heavy shell. I'm not sure about everything yet, but its been performing great overall. Pyromancer works incredibly well with Kess. One important thing I've found is that she is a quite aggressive card. You want to recast discard most of the time and keep opps game down while beating down with her. Let me know what you think Smile

This is extremely close to what ive been running for some time. I wouldn't bother with bedevil or login knot though. Rather go with collective brutality and dreadbore

I'm legit shocked so many people are complaining.

Tons of cards in this set are going to Top 8 GP/PT's over the next year and we STILL have cards left to go...

I understand that many of you will disagree, but I have yet to see a single main deck playable level card spoiled from MH1, excluding the slivers and the canopy land cycle.
You mean that cards like Archmage's Charm Ranger-Captain of Eos, Force of Negation, Giver of runes, Fact or Fiction, Prohibit, Scale Up, Lava Dart, Wrenn and Six, Fallen Shinobi, Eladamri's Call, Ice-Fang Coatl, and Mox Tantalite, and that's just from the top of my head, are not maindeckable?

Yes, I meant that none of those seem maindeckable in today's modern metagame.

I may be wrong, as some of them seem borderline playable (maybe as a 1-2 of), but that's my initial assessment.

Your assessments are bad then. Lava dart is a big upgrade for phoenix decks, Scale up is a nice upgrade for infect at a minimum.

5-8? She is a 1-2 of. But she plays best with, again a tapout style control deck.

I think she will be strong, on the same tier as Kalitas at 4.

Lots of great cards spoiled already.

Fact or Fiction - Best 4 mana draw spell for Grixis. Feeds your graveyard and gives a 2+ for 1 at instant speed. better for heavy cryptic low creature builds.

Blue Pact - Great sideboard card, too narrow to maindeck. As much as people want to believe this is 'force' its too narrow to maindeck in modern. Lots of decks just don't care about its effect

Black Pact - Insane against humans, affinity, anything that will be playing 2-3 creatures per turn. Even as a 'fair' card that kills 2 things for 3 at instant speed? Its good. Add in potential game saving potential at 0 mana for a 2 for 2 or 3 for 2 it has HUGE potential. Perhaps good enough to just take a card like damnation out of your deck for more card advantage (FOF anyone?) I will say if you can enough black spells 2-3 maindeck is worth trying.

Firebolt - People probably missed/forgot this but its great value with Jace, Azcanta, LOTV, on and on. Could be a 1-2 of in builds that want to go late in a creature heavy meta. I don't think its better than bolt necessarily, but its a consideration.

Ceremonious rejection is one of the best cards in modern right now. Feels like it counters 30-40% of the format lol

How have you guys found Nicol Bolas? To me its - is very weak, but its + is very strong in an already even game.

That said i prefer Kalitas and Tasigur for the cloak over planeswalkers right now so i need to be convinced NB is worth playing

You need a box topper Emrakul!

List looks pretty close to what ive got to going through a few iterations. I would say Gideon, Ally of Zendikar is worth 1 copy, and Vault of the archangel 1-2 of as well for the deathtouch in midrange matchups.

If your meta is aggro 2-3 timely is probably correct as well.

I like the idea.. But it feels like you should just go 'full control' and ditch any token buffing, and probably the weaker token cards like mardu charm/legions landing.

Switch in more planeswalkers, removal, and unburial rites to give you another way to cheat creatures into play.

    https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-mardu-reanimator#paper

Something like this with the combo included. Ill make a list at some point and post

Not sure how anyone could read that meta data and think the meta is anything but well balanced. The difference between the 'good' decks and the 'bad' decks is 10% winrate. Phoenix isnt even top 3 in winrate, and prison has a great matchup against it and will grow in popularity(which should lower phoenix's winrate as well).

As always people just love to complain about anything and everything they can.

This is so painfully true I almost dont even want to get into it. If you played a UR deck that was not Storm, inside the last year, you ALREADY played a suboptimal 'I'm diverse Modern!' but not really good deck. Phoenix didnt change that. Phoenix just showed what a good UR deck actually looks like.

By current measures, Phoenix appears to be much more than merely a "good UR deck." Its shares are currently in the Pod/TC/DRS range, I.e. a range of legitimately broken decks, not simply good ones. Modern has not seen these shares between Eldrazi Winter and today, so there is clearly some anomaly in the deck's performance. That said, I do believe the share is (someehat) artificially inflated by the echo chamber of pro and online opinion, which drives a certain type of competitive player to pick up this certain kind of proactive/reactive, consistent, rewarding, and resilient deck. Add in a healthy Standard and the engaging Arena platform, and it's little wonder that many of the better players at big events just audible to a reliable deck like Phoenix.

BUT, artificial inflation factors aside, the Day 1 to Day 2 to Top 32 jump at the previous GP is an unambiguous indicator of a real performance edge, not just a "good" UR deck.

Its shares in a very small and limited sample. Remember in paper most people don't metagame for a new deck for quite a while. Now you will start to see more maindeck hate(magma spray anyone) for it.

In the end the deck has bad matchups and those will continue to grow in share as it actually 'stays' as the best deck for more than 2 months.

In the end the CORRECT answer isnt to ban a thing from all these linear decks.

Unban Twin. Twin will police things like Phoenix and Dredge to a level thats more reasonable for 'must board' decks. Twin is the hero this format needs. Itll immediately be the best deck in modern again, but all the other FAIR decks get better around it and rebalances the meta (Grixis/abzan/jund midrange and UW and UWR control get better)

3 ceremon rej shoulf be standard. Affinity tron eldrazi kci lantern and whir is easily 15 to 20% of the meta
