very true but you could easily just use it when youll win with it. turn 8 or 9 is a good average turn when mono black can win. by then youve most likely dropped a connections, some 3 or 4 cost creature, and atleast one merchant, maybe two, so then corrupt on turn 8 or 9 could be a win, possibly without even having to go into combat
well im looking past the target creature part and more on the doing damage to your opponent part. playing that deck uses your life total as a resource so much, having another way to replenish that resource plus still doing damage to your oppenent seems good. especially against control
i was flipping thru cards, moving m14 stuff to the old box in ready for m15 to take its place and i ran across a card i hadnt noticed before. Corrupt. its a 6 cost sorcery that deals damage to a creature or player equal to the number of swamps you control, then you gain that much life. so im wondering, why doesnt mono black play this as a 1 or 2 of? it lines up perfectly with grey merchent on turn 5 then this on turn 6. its 6 cost yeah but how many decks play six cost cards? everything but aggro, some even play 7 cost cards. so why hasnt this one card seen more play?
ok so like the title said ive always been a standard guy but here recently ive been paying alot of attention to modern and i like it. with standard being so boring rite now, modern is a good alternative. i dont kno much about the modern format so heres my question. i found this deck that i like but i found it under a legacy open tournament, is this deck legal in modern? if not, what cards are illegal and what could i switch them out for?
seeing that they say take one damage to tap for a color makes ppl think youll be taking alot but in later game once you get basics out, you just tap the painlands for colorless and take no damage. youll really only take damage the first few turns, considering you draw more land of course, but id say overall youll take 5-7 damage. which isnt any different then shocking in 4 shocklands which alot of ppl do anyway
and i dont think a 7 cost walker is to expensive. it shows that WoTC learned from the past. the only other walker with 4 abilities is our buddy jace the mindsculptor. his cost was 4 and he took over every game he was played in until he got banned from standard. you could mulligan down to 5 and have 4 land a mindsculptor and snap keep it and kno turn 4 your going to win the game 85% of the time. putting this garruk at 7 cost will keep him in standard without getting banned and shows WoTC actually pays attention to their past flubs. elspeth costs 6 and shes a win condition by herself and everyone that runs midrange with white has atleast 2 in their deck. having him cost one more for one additional ability, and a good ability at that is perfectly fine. true he can be cast on turn 4 still but that takes work, the right cards, and dodging removal. i think wizards did a hell of a job on this guy and i guarentee he will be a 2 of in monoblack devotion splashing green, along with liliana vess since its more hand disruption plus all those kill spells weve used to kill your creatures, come under my control. so not only do the removal spells make a path for small creatures to do damage, it also sets up a later game win condition
nissa's ultimate is good only if you give them haste. making your land creatures is terrible against removal and boardwipes. supreme verdict, destroy all creatures, that means your lands are now gone. bile blight plus drown in sorrow wipes your board also. overloaded mizzium mortars also wipes your board. anger of the gods plus bile blight or any other overall damaging effect wipes your board. as long as board wipes are around her ultimate is useless
that is true but one problem. if you decide to start doing that, that means your going to have to do that every single turn until you draw extra mana to be able to do something else the same turn or, committ to do something your turn then they respond by using a kill spell on one of those two creatures. doing that uses up all your mana and not allowing you to do anything else for a few turns which just gives them more draws into more good stuff. so yes you have a decent plan, its just in the end your opponent will get more benefit from it
so im guessing that since theyve spoiled 4 1/2 planeswalkers, the half being we only kno the art for jace so far, that garruk is def. going to be the 'powerhouse' of the core set? he'll pbly be one of the last cards spoiled then to
i was searching for spoilers and ran across this article. http://www.magicspoiler.com/mtg-news/garruk-slayer/ since the art on that card is just like all the other art for garruk this year, could this year have no garruk in the set? and the only garruk were going to have is that pre-release card that can only be used during pre-release? could we be hyping about a dual color garruk and 6 total planeswalkers in the core set this year only to be disappointed and still have 5 and no garruk? hes my favorite out of all the planeswalkers, i dont even play green and hes still my favorite
that would be fine and good but taking control of all slivers wouldnt do much since no one else plays them. so in the end your taking control of your own creatures
idk, ive never heard of them before til that guy said that about them. but if it is their first time that probably means they just picked the more popular ones to do figures of. course the garruck one does look awesome.
